IMDB takes fan updates, so that's a grain of salt there. Last I've been hearing on Christopher Lambert's website is that he will the third film. And this has been going on since at least 2003. He only didn't do the second film because he didn't like the script and depsite what one thinks, every film he does is based on what he considers to be a strong script. Tha's why he's only done sequels to Highlander and waited so long to do the sequel to Fortress.

As to Bridgette Wilson, I think it's been indicated that she wasn't going to be brought back, but that Sandra Hess would be used.

What would those more reliable sources be?

The actors that didn't do the second film were smart. It would've been a bad career move.
    That sucks :(

Well, since about anyone can update info on IMDB, just about any other outlet is probably more reliable. I'll try to dig up the sources of the other news, if you'd like.

I didn't know the IMDB is user-editable, I just know that users can leave comments. Are you sure you're not thinking wikipedia?

Absolutely. IMDB has always been user-editable. In a way, it was the first wiki ;)

To clarify, it is only innacurate for films that are in pre-production. Once production is going on and after the film's release, is it more accurate. Usually as all the facts are made available.

Case in point, from 2001 to June of 2005, IMDB said that Christopher Lambert would be in the fifth Highlander. It was false as he had not been approached. They also said that Adrian Paul was signed up, when he had not. In June, Adrian Paul had agreed to return and Lambert's name was removed. Production status had varied until June. At one point, Timothy Dalton's name was up there, but it was nothing more than a fan thing.

Users can submit info, I had. Though it was to make something factual.

The first Mortal Kombat was a guilty pleasure and could even be deemed a classic in some degree. I remember watching it over and over and it's cheesyness was part of the appeal that went along with the coolness of it. Then, there was Anihilation. Literally; the franchise was anihilated by the sequel. The fake Will Smith dude with the rubber arms, the stand-in Raden played by that A-list B-movie actor, the unbearable "acting", the 1981 grade special effects, and the Indian Chief talking about "Your Animality". This film is up there with the worst of all times. It is so bad that Mortal Kombat should NEVER EVER be reinstated as a film.

When they turned into clay dragons and battled in stop-motion photography I was literally ejected from my seat in shock.

Yeah I know what you mean, and you said it right when you said that the movie "Annihilated" the franchise.

The reason why I see so much potential with the franchise though is because of the first movie. Yeah it was pretty cheesy at some parts, but so is Star Wars. I found the first MK to be pretty much what a good movie should be, and is definetely the best game-based movie there is. If they just fixed up some of that old CGI and fixed a couple lines here and there, it would definetely be one of the classics, if it isn't already.

I'm not quite sure what to expect from MK3 though...

So there IS a new MK movie?

They should have started over with STREET FIGHTER. Instead of making some cheap cheezy Van dam movie, they can now display Ken and Ryu in all their fire ball glory.

Yes there is, and it's going to be called "Devastation". It's been confirmed by several major sites. I just hope that it doesn't "Devastate" the already "Annihilated" franchise...

The name kind of reminds me of one of my favorite JK levels.

I'm not a big fan of SF, but it would be cool to start making some decent game-based movies because some of them can be real good if they're done right.

You can say that again. I think they tried to make these films before the effects technology had reached it's current anything-can-be-created state. Movies like Spawn and MK couldn't be depicted at the level of their source material due to effects limitations- although, the first MK works it's cheese nicely. I had no problem with Sub Zero's Ice attacks and Scorpions snapping whip-coil. I think Gordo was ambitiously pulled off too. I think the CGI on reptile was a little weak but for the time it was okay. I don't know how they got to the sequel and went backwards though.

I hope Rain is in it, and I hope they make him badass. :)

    That is all.

    Carry on.

    Purple Rain ;)

I've heard that this movie was delayed due to hurricane Katrina and set back several months. Is that true?

And with a new Mortal Kombat game coming out last month, will the story for that have any effect on the plot for this one or is the script already finalized?

I'd like to see a movie that explores all the different realms like in the Konquest modes of the past couple video games. Seeing the Choas and Order realm along with Edena, Earthrealm, and Netherealm would be great. Have it begin in Earthrealm, go through some of the other ones and finish up in Netherealm. I think that would be awesome.

I seem to remember Rain and Ermac had a cameo in Annihilation, I could be wrong though. I only saw it once.

Rain was in it for all of about 5 seconds. He had a couple lines than Kahn killed him, went out like a punk.

Ermac was one of Kahn's four "Generals" who was killed by Sonya in the final battle. For some reason Noob Saibot formed out of him which doesn't make sense because Noob is the dead Sub Zero who was killed in MK 1.

But it doesn't matter that those two died in MKA since that story will be bypassed and all forgotten. Rain is supposed to be a General for Edenia who joins Kahn instead of being killed.

As someone who isn't all that familiar with the franchise minus films, I never really thought it had all that much potential in the first place. The first film was alright, but it just went downhill from there.

The games are great. The movies really didn't do them justice. The more recent 3-D games have great storylines which, if done right, could make great films.

Nope, things must have gotten stuck in development hell and/or delayed by Midway's problems.

It's a more hyper-realistic take on the MK mythos, which usually has a more overt fantasy/sci-fi take, for better or worse.
