I need to get a hold of all sorts of pieces of metal, wood, wire, fabric (of any kind) metal coat hangers, beads, sequins, broken/old jewellery and anything else similar for an art project I am doing in school. Any size piece of metal/wood is welcome. Any length of wire you can find would be greatly appreciated. Also if you have fishing wire or something similar as well. Hell, even old computer cases and parts.

I have to do a "recycled" art project, basically I have to decide what medium I want to use and then go out and collect those pieces. Would have been perfect if I'd known a couple of weeks ago when we were emptying the unit, but you get that...

Anyway, yeah... If you can get hold of any of the above it would be greatly appreciated. I'll get back to you with a time limit, but at the moment I don't have one.

EDIT: I changed the title of the thread so because I may need more than just arty stuff throughout the course of the year... I also figured other people could use the thread to ask other people for their help...

EDIT 2: I've unlocked this thread because you can never have enough advice given.

I have 4 or 5 Minitower and Desktop cases, as well as various Motherboards and other junk that I have upgraded from that you are welcome to have, should you wish it. Included is one of the old Acer Aspire cases that look reasonably funky.

I need to start gathering all the stuff ASAP, so... Umm... I'll try and see if I can get my hands on a car (and someone to drive it) and when I have that organised I'll try and work out a way to pick everything up, if you guys still have the stuff lying around of course...

perhaps you should go to places like the tip, or Bunnings and ask for metal cut offs, or a demolition site..or salvage yard?

PM me with where you are, and I'll see if I can drop it off to you, if I'm passing that way.
I'm south of the River, but work in the City.

Monkey, that's a secondary place for me to go. I figured I'd get onto people on here first coz it generally saves them having to throw it out... If I don't get enought stuff from people on here, then I'm headed to the tip...

Tarryn_Whiteheart, PM is on the way... :)

Does anyone have a copy of Run Lola Run that I can borrow? We're currently studying it in Media and I can't keep up with the subtitles... So if I could borrow it off someone it would be greatly appreciated...

Umm... does anyone know of where I can get my hands on a soldering iron thingy or something similar? Something that I can use to connect bits of wire together.

I was thinking more to borrow, but depending on how much they are that could be a plan... Any idea how much they cost?

A cheap soldering iron shouldn't cost you more than about $18-20.
To that you will need to add a roll of Solder, for about $5 or so.

Any electronics store (Tandys & Dick Smiths etc) should also have them. I don't know if they'd be cheaper than bunnings but they specialise in that stuff so you'd think they'd be good for it.

Heh, don't worry about the soldering iron. I forgot to ask Soup about it, and he has 3 or so at his parents house... Stoopy me...

But I'd still love to grab the computer bits and pieces (old motherboards, chips, whatever)...

I don't have a copy of 'Run Lola Run' but I studied that movie twice, once for European Studies and the second time for English. Great film, but with many different interpretations! Watching it with subtitles is better though, you get to learn bits of German! "Bitte Manni, bitte!", "die Tasche!" and of course, "Scheisse!" Could you rent the DVD from a video store? That should have the English dubbed version on it.

    Dubbed version?? Hmmm....
We watched the version with subtitles. That sucked real bad coz I take a while to read the subtitles, which means I miss out on the action that is happening around it and then we had to take notes as well...
I plan on getting it out again, but I don't need the copy any more... I wanted to re-watch it before I had to write the essay, but I'm writing the essay now coz it's due in tomorrow... So there's no time to get it out and watch it all over again...

    Help me Obi-Wan Kenobi...........etc.

Good news - I have almost finished the upgrade to my computer.

Bad News - The mainboard I got was damaged and won't work, and the store that I bought it from has ruled out the fact that it could have been damaged when I received it ( Toss Toss ).

    So.........

I am wondering if anyone out there might have one they would be willing to part with, whether for sale, exchange for another I have or some other means.

Basically it needs to be able to take a 462 pin socket A Athlon AMD XP 2.0 GB CPU ( hope this makes sense to somone ). It would be preferable if it had two or three PCI slots and an AGP slot.

I have another P4 mainboard here but it's for a 478 pin CPU, I'm also willing to part with my old case which has a P3 450mhz, power supply and a network card.

If anyone can help I'd be rapt.

    :)

    Just a question JA...

Where did you buy it from? I am fairly sure they can't do that to you.....faults in computer parts happen all the time, I'm sure you can ask many of the people on here (especially Stinky Jawa and myself) about ***ked up parts.

Its not like it is going to affect them, all they do is send it back to the suppier and get a replacement or refund.

As for the quesion of parts, sorry I can't help you (unless you want some muscle to beat the shop owners with). I am actually chasing a similar motherboard myself.

All PC hardware has a 1 year MANUFACTURERS warrantee (unless its a really dodgey manufacturer).. I would be contacting the shop you've purchased the board from and letting them know this. It will not cost them a cent to replace (maybe postage etc)
Or you can contact your manufacturer (email or phone) and get them to recommend a return/replacement.. Then you can take that to the shop as ammo..

The only downside to this is they will test the board.. and if you are at fault.. you will cop the bill (postage, testing and a nice little extra they like wacking on top to stop ppl from doing it again).. So best to be fairly certain nothings been accidently done to it..

Same as DS asked, what shop was it?

As for a replacement board.. hmm well you cant go wrong with a Abit Nfs 2.0 Nforce2 board (this make and revision are apparently the best) Still.. I dont know what they're worth [face_plain] I have an Epox 8rda+ 1.1.. A very nice board for overclocking, if your willing to solder wires to your 12 and 5V rails :)..
lol.. unfortunately Im not.. So Im stuck with the default 200x9 (good enough for me.. 200mhz fsb rocks)
But I would recommend staying away from the Via 400 chipsets.. I've heard nothing but bad news on these.. bad reliability/compatability and just general bad performance..

Ahh well.. :) Upto you though, I dont know what your budget is and M/bs arent the sorta thing I have laying around (well sometimes, but not long after I upgrade) [face_plain]

Bought it from a place called net solutions or something in morley.

Both the company I work for and my dad have purchased stuff from them before and they are just the rudest bunch of people around.

There company policy is once you have walked out the door your warranty has expired.

Our company's IT guy has tried to take back faulty parts before and they just throw it back in your face saying you must not have installed it properly and that it is not there problem.

It seems like it was a poor quality board to start with and it just could not handle actual electricity running through it, seems like it was not actually made for that sort of thing.

Hey Soup, is the other board I mentioned any good to you ?

Thanks for the offer bud, but I need a motherboard that can take an Athlon XP 2600 + T/bred, so a P4 board wont really help. :)

Do you want me to represent you at the shop and get them to change it over for you......
    I can do that.....

Also a great motherboard for the Athlon is the Asus A7N8X (the one I am going for, and I agree with SJ, steer clear of the VIA chipsents and go for the nForce ones). It is well good!! Click here to check it out.
