A few movies I've seen recently:

Inglorious Basterds - Pure delight from start to frantic finish. It's arguably Tarantino's best, mixing fantastic dialog with intriguing characters, some genuinely funny and moving moments, and one amazing finale. I had doubts before hand, but I was gladly proven wrong.

Taking Woodstock - It isn't a full blown comedy, nor is it greatly dramatic. If anything it moves at a simple, colourful pace much like the event it portrays. Liev Schreiber alone makes this worth watching, and it's a nice change of pace after watching the above mentioned Basterds. Still, it won't be for everyone.

    UP = :) :( :_| [face_worried] :D :) :eek: =D= :D :)

EDIT: If you're going to see it at the movies, shell out a couple of bucks more and see it in 3D. It's not a gimmick, it's an extra layer of visual entertainment.

One wonders if each of those faces represented a multiple personality...

saw 500 Days of Summer last night. Great movie. Laughed out loud a lot ( even before it began - you know that's a special movie when that happens!)

    also recently saw ...

    Coraline - two thumbs up.

District 9 - two alien thumbs up.

Orphan - weird, disturbing, lots of other good things.

Harry Potter And The Rest of the Title - I will begrudgingly admit that I enjoyed it.

And oh yeah - hello again. :)

District 9 - Jumping on the 'awesome!' truck

500 Day of Summer - one of the few 'rom-coms' I have ever enjoyed (PEN!S) :p

Surrogates - Er lame, apart from the laughing at Bruce Willis with hair

Ponyo - Enjoyed it a lot, even though aimed at an even younger audience than usual

Wolverine - mmm sausage fest.. finally! :p

Samson & Delilah - Could this movie have been more depressing.. no. Good film though.

Moon was fantastic. The trailer doesn't do it justice, it was just a brilliantly strange movie!

I'm really keen to see Whatever Works, and there's advanced screenings of Paranormal Activity on Nov 1st!

I got dragged along to Julia & Julie. It was more interesting than I expected, but finished very abruptly, with no real ending. It just kinda stopped.

Someone I know saw Paranormal Activity and raved about it. Looking forward to seeing it at some stage.

Mate of mine saw it at SIFF and raved about it also. Sucks they played advanced screenings on Halloween (Dendy at Newtown was showing Zombieland on Halloween also)

I caught the Time Travelers Wife on the plane back from Fiji (it was the only thing I hadn't seen!). I love anything time travel related, which helped me get through the romantic part of the whole thing, but it was actually a good movie! Very interesting premise!

Also saw the Imaginarium of Dr Parnassus or however its spelt. It was interested to watch, and visually awesome, but a little bit slow and dragged out at times.

I just came back from an advanced screening of Paranormal Activity.

It was like a serious version of Poltergeist. It was good, very good indeed, but I spend the whole time comparing it to Drag Me To Hell - which I loved. Check it out and don't go in following the hype!

Saw it at IMAX last night, it was pretty amazing. Now I can't make up my mind whether Avatar or Dsitrict 9 is my favourite movie this year.

while i did enjoy the 3d, Avatar itself disappointed me. its a tired storyline that we've seen so many times.

Avatar was a lot of fun.

The movie mixed great special effects with an interesting story.
Hopefully this will inspire other film makers to greater heights.

Yes Lucas, bow your head in shame.

I like Cameron's quote that I've heard a few times in some of the behind the scenes footage: "I've always tried to push the envelope, but this time it pushed back. So we had to push harder." ...which is something others haven't done. I definitely agree with you, Shad. I hope to see more of these brilliant visuals.

    AVATAR is awesome. :)
