There will be those times, years from now, when you two are an old married couple and still very much in love with one another that you will, in fact, want to have an axe handy. Trust me on that.

Jenni, if planning helps you keep your perspective (and sanity), then keep doing it. However, Dan is right about marriage--if you're in it for the big show, you're in it for the wrong reason. Its not about cakes and flowers and hymns--its about you and the one you love. I used to think my wedding day was the best day of my life. Now I know that every day I get to spend with my wife and best friend is the best day of my life. I wish you all the happiness in the world, and don't worry about the formalities--there's time for all that stuff later!

I never said on this string I needed a wedding; I'm not that kind of person. It would be nice to have one if possible though since the planning's begun. It's not my concern right now though. My concern is that Kevin stays in the U.S. if able. We have much bigger concerns than the wedding to deal with if he leaves which include: his cat (which I'd take custody of, but I've never had a real pet before), his bank account, his "stuff" (i.e., bed, bank acc't, etc.)... and he is only guaranteed 72 hours notice.

I'm very happy that Kevin and I will be married. My primary concern is that we stay together if at all possible. If he leaves, we'll manage, but it'll be tough. We realize though, true love bears all things.

Well said. Please forgive me if I misinterpreted your posting. I'm very happy for the both of you (and that was a pretty snazzy-looking picture on your announcement, by the way!). Any news on whether or not its looking like he'll get called up? I've got a friend and a niece in the reserves that have a 50-50 chance of getting called up in the next year, and I don't even like thinking about that.

bwing53: No word yet. Every day though, right after work, the first question I ask Kevin is "did you get a call?" Upon 72 hours notice he'd find out... any day between today and March if he's called.

    Thanks for the support!

Well, I am now officially employed. Woohoo! I start training as a cable installer for Advanced Communication Specialists on February 5. From what I understand, there's some decent money to be made doing this work. Like $15-18 an hour installing Road Runner. Sweet...

Finally, a productive member of society again... wow, it feels really good.

Congrats, Jeff, on your new job! $15-$18 is nothing to scoff at these days. :)

Oh, and Red, I have considered joining the Rebel Legion, but I just haven't gotten around to it yet, I guess. Perhaps one day, when I have more costumes to my name--I don't think I would want to do it with just one, as I would join as one of the (many) Leias, and I would prefer to have the whole kit 'n caboodle then.
Although, I am told it's worth it, as you then have someone to connect with when you attend the conventions. I guess that's one of the reasons why the 501st is so popular--an international fellowship of Imperials and bounty hunters.

Yeah, I'm gonna ask about that... It'd be nice to have cable TV again. If not, I should be able to afford it.

    And thanks, everyone.

Re: 501st/Rebel Legion... STAY AWAY. They're a bunch of jerks and hypocrites.

I agree with Dawn on this one, Tom. We can't make that complete of a judgement, as we really haven't met all of them yet. And the Rebel Legion head, JediToren, seems rather nice, considering his postings on the costuming board.
But a few others I have met from those groups have not been all that welcoming, and perhaps that's another reason why I haven't joined yet. To join the Rebel Legion would just allow me to say that I'm a member and up my status in the SW fan costuming world, nothing more. I feel more welcomed here with the Wisconsin groups, working on our costume ideas, than I think I would feel with the Rebel Legion.

But that's just my humble little opinion, and it's more based on feeling than entirely hard fact...

One day, I suppose I'll just have to join and then I'll really find out...

My reactions to that group are based on things that Dawn and I heard from Mary (a.k.a. Amber_eyes) at FilmCon, as well as my ...um... interaction with TK895, the so-called Midwest Garrison Commander of the 501st. But everyone who counts knows that story, so there's no need to go into it again.

I will concede that perhaps most people in the 501st/Rebel Legion are decent individuals who treat others with respect and friendship, but my opinion of those they choose to put in charge stands as it is.

Edit: Removal of name per request.

Woo-woo! Next round is on Jeff! Hey--I've got a buddy who's been doing that installation gig for the last 4 years for TimeWarner--he says it's long money if you're willing to work hard. And we KNOW you're ready and willing! Congrats!

Yeah, I see what you're saying. And those stories do color my view of them. My thing is that I've never really met one in person, and I'm always a little leary to completely take the grapevine at face value, so I'm just reserving final judgement for now.

So it's all good, Tom. :)

Its kind of a mobster-speak kind of thing, Dawn. I think I heard it in "The Usual Suspects" or something. Let me give you another example of usage:

"It'll be a quick job--easy in, easy out. Low risk and long money."

Are you "feeling" the jargon now? :D

First off, congrats, Jeff!! Welcome back to the fold of the gainfully employed. Now may all the rest of those without jobs find one soon!

Secondly, SCORE!!! I'm going to the Elton John/Billy Joel concert. :) :) I so cannot wait now for April 8! *does the happy dance* (Sheesh, can you tell I'm a fan? I only love Star Wars more. ;) )

Edit: Like hey? Where did our icons go??
Edit2: Forget it...it must be my slow computer.
