Yech...more powerful Uruk-hai. I see enough of them around here. They dice my Elves like Chef Yan on Yan Can Cook :(

At least most the actions are relegated to the Regroup phase. But that Isengard Warrior is going to hurt.

Don't forget that these are ORCs and not Uruk-Hai. They're still pretty powerful, especially against stealth decks and cancellers like Staff Asunder.

From what I've seen around here the fellowship would cripple them so badly in combat that they won't have any vitality left.

The key will be using Saruman to try and force the Orcs to fight the weakest member of the fellowship, win and then do massive damage in the regroup phase. They'll also need lots of archery protection as the new Legolas will be nasty for them.

Look like they'll be really fun to play though...

Well, I finally decided to give in and start collecting the LOTR TCG. I've bought a box each of FOTR and MOM, plus all of the starters (except the MOM Gandalf deck), plus I've won a few scattered packs of each set here and there in contests.

So because of this, I nearly have a complete set of MoM (only missing 5 cards: #s 36, 43, 66, 97 and 122). As for the FOTR cards I'm missing:

    1, 13, 14, 15, 16, 23, 28, 33, 35, 36, 38, 40, 47, 49, 55, 57, 62, 66, 69, 71, 75, 80, 87, 88, 90, 95, 98, 99, 111, 114, 118, 120, 123, 124, 125, 126, 127, 129, 132, 137, 139, 143, 163, 165, 169, 170, 172, 173, 183, 186, 188, 189, 190, 194, 199, 200, 205, 212, 213, 214, 217, 218, 221, 224, 227, 236, 237, 240, 247, 250, 251, 252, 254, 256, 259, 265, 272, 276, 282, 289, 291, 302, 307, 308, 313, 318, 325, 330, and 335.

Currently, the deck I've made is a Nazgul/Elven/Gandalf deck, which I feel could do fairly well. The Free Peoples' side of the deck has a bit of an archery focus as well.

I've looked over the rulebook carefully, and I'm happy to say that I know the rules of the game intricately.

If anyone is looking to trade me some of the cards I'm missing, I have tons of Star Wars cards available for trade, plus a few extra LOTR rares:

    Boromir, Lord of Gondor
    Sam, Faithful Companion
    Stone Trolls
    Gandalf's Staff X2
    Jarnsmid, Merchant From Dale
    Mithril-Coat
    Realm Of Dwarrowdelf
    Release The Ancient Flood
    Staff Asunder

So feel free to PM me with any trade offers.

Curious if anyone know if the 3 promotional cards to be included in the DVD will be made available in a "non-foiled" format. My understanding is that the 3 cards will be foiled in the DVD set itself.

    Neat looking cards!

Well, I no longer need any of those cards that I have listed; I now have at least 1 of every card, including a card that I am especially proud of pulling, an Isildur's Bane foil.

I have so far participated in 6 sanctioned LOTR tournaments, going 3-1, 3-1, 4-0, 4-0, 3-1 and 2-2. I must say that I am really enjoying this game!

Hmm, I think the second deck looks much better. Your Shadow side looks a little weak, though. I suggest adding some Orc Taskmasters, a Morgul Hunter or 2 and a Tower Assassin or 2. You could remove some Orc Commanders and 1 UTWE to make room for them, but I would also suggest making your deck a little bigger. Stay under 37 cards, if you can.

I got told it sucked though over at Dicipher MSG BRD [face_plain]

If you include ARV, be aware of the new errata for it (Exert a ranger at a river or forest to exhaust a minion).

    Uruk Rager X4
    Wariness

The strategy here is a bit different than you might expect. This deck will go first 95% of the time, and you won't have to suffer having extra burdens that might hurt you. How, do you ask? Read on.

Bid 7 or 8 and go first. Use the Green Dragon's text to get out Sam, and use him to pull Bill The Pony. Play any Fellowship stuff you get and move on. At the first opportunity, throw Frodo at one of your opponent's minions and let him die. Magically, those 7 or 8 burdens you put on Frodo are now gone! Sam can then take over as Ring-bearer, and this Sam is very important, as he can pull out Bill The Pony again after you've left the mountains.

As a lot of the Fellowship stuff in this deck is rather expensive, there is lots of Twilight denial in here. The new Aragorn is killer, which is why there are 3 of him in here to ensure drawing him early. Also, two No Strangers can be devastating to the Shadow Player, especially if Bill is also out.

The rest of this deck is your basic super Fellowship deck. Everyone has a weapon to be put on them, with the exception of Legolas, which is why there are multiples of every companion, save my starting ones. Once I get Glamdring out, I can do even more insane Twilight denial. the 4 Elronds help me cycle my deck and find the cards I need.

As for the Shadow side, it's a mix between Uruks and the new Isengard Orcs; nothing too special. One Of You Must Do This is a fantastic card, as it can often put several wounds on a Fellowship before archery can pick your minions off. I threw in Wariness just in case I can get it in my hand when Frodo decides to stealth one of my Uruks. If that happens, bye-bye Frodo.

After much deliberation, I decided that Emyn Muil was a much better Site 9 than Wastes Of Emyn Muil, as that generally only softened my Orcs up for archery wounds. Emyn Muil is much better, as fierce Uruks are not something you want to mess around with. And to prevent Legolas from annoying you with his volleys of arrows, the common Saruman is in here to make him fight off those Uruks. Very fun and nasty.

I really need another Savagery in here, but one is all I own. Battle Cry is also another extremely powerful card, as it can often be gamebreaking. In my many games using an Uruk deck, Battle Cry has killed off so many companions it's not even funny.

I also threw in Enquea, Cantea and Tower Assassin in here, just as backup minions who can do some really nasty things.

Bib: What happens if your opponent gets a first turn Enquea or Toldea, or both? Thats good bye Sam and Legolas at least, but if you get a bad draw you lose the game. The the Number 1 player in the state lost to the Number 2 player in the State Tourney at site 2 playing that exact way.

Yes, I know there are a lot of things that can go wrong with this tactic, but I'm gonna try it anyway. If I know I'm playing against a Nazgul deck, I'll bid 0 and let them go first. Otherwise, I'll just have to hope that my opponent doesn't pull the random Enquea that's in their deck. [face_plain]

Inky is used a lot here too, but chances are fairly good that he won't be drawn into the Shadow player's starting hand. And since I kill off Frodo ASAP, I won't have to worry about Inky once I'm past Site 2 (unless of course I get 6 companions out).

I'm planning on using this deck in a tourney tonight, and if it doesn't work, no big deal. The deck is versatile enough that I can play it without bidding high and killing Frodo. The deck doesn't depend upon killing Frodo, but it is just a nice way to bid high without lotsa burdens plaguing you all game.

Just a note for all you Lord of the Rings Fans. There's a new redemption offer for an "Éowyn" card. Supposedly an alternate image card which requires a $10 purchase at one of the participating stores. Not sure about the redeption policy, but it sounds like you get the card from the participating store. This is one cool card. Can't wait until December for the Two Towers to hit theaters.

    Check it out at:

just a question since i might get into lord of the rings tcg:

i bought 2 mom starter decks and was wondering if the rares r ne good

    here they are:

    ulaire nelya, ringwraith in twilight
    staff asunder
    archer commander
    the balrog flame of udun
    beneath the mountains
watcher in the water keeper of westgate

secondly, where is the thread where u play a sample game? i really want to learn how to play (the rulebook is funky)

lastly, what is spotting? for example the card "the balrog" reads ...To play, spot a (symbol) Orc...

    thx

These 3 are all pretty good cards. They're used in many decks that I see played all the time. There usefulness is really dependent upon what type of Minion deck you decide to build.

    Ulaire Nelya, Ringwraith in Twilight
    Archer Commander
    The Balrog Flame of Udun

I do believe on Decipher's site you can learn how to play a game. I believe they have a quicktime video you can download to learn how to play. I'm not sure but check out Decipher.com in the Lord of the Rings section.

This link should have what you're looking for:
The Lord of the Rings Gameplay Video

With respect to you question about spotting. That refers (especially in the case of the Balrog card you have), that you must first have an Orc in play (deployed first) before you can deploy the Balrog. Without Orcs you cannot play the card given the deployment conditions haven't been met. The common balrog allows you the ability to deploy it without "spotting" an Orc. That card, on the other hand, doesn not allow for multiple deployment of other minions during the same Shadow phase. It works better in minion decks that do not use Orcs.

The Eowyn card is very interesting for 4 reasons:

    1) She is part of the new culture of Rohan, thus we see the new symbol.

    2) She has a new ability: Valiant

    3) New wording: "unbound". I assume it means "except the ring-bearer"

    4) New signets.

    I like it a lot.

    EDIT: AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH

NONE of the card games in my city are part of the offer! NONE! NADA! ZILCH! CURSES AND NAUGHTY WORDS!

Well BPJ I'm not sure about what the requirements are to get the card. I believe it requires a $10 purchase and I know my son and I want two of them. I'll see how easy it is to get them and let you know. Perhaps the tourney directors will have extras they can offer to regular gamers. If I can get an extra I'll try and offer it to you.

Two Towers info in from the e-mail list:

Alright, I was just able to get you some really good info.

Before I get to that I wanted to give you an update on the packaging that
    I
was going to show you last time I emailed. New Line Cinema informed us that
we can't show the packing until October 1... I would also assume that it
would mean the card templates and pretty much anything else visual.

Today's info is about "Loaded" and "Unloaded" keywords

A "Loaded" keyword is one that has a built-in rule behind it, such as Fierce
or Damage +1. An "Unloaded" keyword is one that has no built in function,
it's just that other cards will key off the keyword, such as Ranger or
    Twilight.

What I have for you today is a list of all the new Loaded and Unloaded
keywords from The Two Towers expansion. While I can't tell you what the
    new
Loaded keywords do yet, I can tell you what they are. Here you go!

    Loaded keywords:
    Ambush
    Ring-bound
    Unhasty

    Unloaded keywords:
    Battleground
    Easterling
    Ent
    Machine
    Southron
    Valiant
    Villager

    EDIT:
    Some thought on the info...
Ambush, hmmmm maybe they can play during the assignment phase?

    Ring-Bound
    Particular rules relating to Gollum

    Unhasty
Obviously an Ent skill. Can't think what it means though.

    Gee, battleground sounds familiar... ;)

Whoa, I made a mistake (everyone will die of shock! :D )

Ringbound is NOT a Gollum related rule because the new card on site, Faramir, is Ringbound.

    Interesting.
