    Pirate's Dice

    [image=http://members.iinet.net.au/~garratts/tyi/piratesdice.jpg]

Inspired from the dice game played in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest between Davy Jones, Will Turner and his father, Bootstrap Bill. Actually, the game is virtually identical, with possible tweaks here and there.

The rules are very simple. This game involves a distinct amount of strategic gambling and bluffing. A lot of fun.

    1. -- Sign-ups will consist of eight players. More players could cause the game to last for too long, however it is not out of the question. It would be possible, however, to have an all-in free for all game (as is done in the movie) where winner takes all if there is interest.

    2. -- Once the game begins, each player will be given five dice at random. The host will deal these out randomly by rolling dice in real life and then PMing each person with their set.

    3. -- To begin with, an order of the table is determined. Betting (which we will come to in a minute) progresses in order. Initially, this order will begin as the order of sign-ups. Once a person "wins" a round, they will then begin the betting in the next round with the order following them in the original sign-up list to come next.

The set-up is complete. Now the game begins...

    Betting...

Betting consists of posting an amount of a certain dice number. However, while each player only sees their set of five dice, all dice on the table is involved in the bet. To begin with, you could bet "one 3". This means that you are claiming that there is at least one dice number of 3 on the table. Of course, in an opening scenario of eight players, I'm sure there would be many more 3's than just one (eight players with five dice each means that for the first round there would be a total of 40 dice in play).

Betting is done in order as mentioned above. The next player must bet "higher" than the previous bet. A higher bet is in amount (if the bet was "two 3's", than a bet of "four 3's" is higher), in number (if the bet was "two 3's", than a bet of "two 5's" is higher) or in both (if the bet was "two 3's", than a bet of "five 6's" is higher).

This process continues around the table in order. Each player must bet. You cannot pass. On any turn in the game a player may declare that somebody is a LIAR on their turn. Usually this occurs when a player thinks that somebody has bet too high or is afraid to bet any higher themselves. Declaring LIAR is in place of your bet. You may only declare LIAR if it is your turn.

When somebody declares "LIAR", the round stops and all players reveal what dice they have (the host will confirm the dice shown). If the current bet is on the table - for instance if ten 5's were declared and there were 10 (or more) on the table - then the person who called LIAR loses the round and is eliminated from the game. If the bet is not on the table (ten 5's are declared and there are only nine or less), then whoever laid that bet down is declared a LIAR and is eliminated from the game. This continues for 7 rounds until we have our winner.

    Your turn...

Consists of either placing a bet of dice OR calling "LIAR" on the previous bet.

    Timing...

Because we are on a forum and not sitting around a table or on a pirate ship together (unfortunately), there has to be a set rule of how much time players have:

    • Each player has 24 hours for their turn.

    • Turns are in order, so the 24 hours start from when the previous person has posted their bet.

    • If a person does not bet in any given round, they are eliminated from the game.

    • Rounds stop if a person is eliminated because of time. Only the host may eliminate a player. This means that there will always be seven rounds of play.

    Winner...

You win by staying in the game. It's that simple.

Ceillean, your bet has to be higher then the one before. Lissa did eight 1s. Your bid would either have to be eight of another number, or something higher then eight and a number. Or you could call liar.
