Here's my first try at a Sith Shadow Trooper costume. This isn't the final lightsaber that I plan on using, though, but I needed something for a stand-in. I know this is pretty basic right now, but I wanted to get input and suggestions on how to improve the costume.

Are you talking about the Sith Assassin from KOTOR? Sith don't have "Troopers".

    These guys?

If not, where are the characters from and what are you using for reference pics?

I was going for the Shadow Troopers from the Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast video game.

I like what you posted, though. I may have to rethink things...

Ok, I don't know that character, I've never played that game.

I seriously doubt that you'd want to wear a rubber suit under a costume with more layers. And it certainly doesn't look like anything "Star Warsy" right now. o_O You'd probably be better off with something like under armor, so you don't sweat to death.

I don't think your gas mask has the right look, either, it sticks out too far in the front.

What else do you plan to add to this?

If that's the case, then I agree with Lori that your best bet is to start from scratch. Underarmor is better for sure. The spandex/rubber suit you've got going just, to be quite frank, looks bad. :-\

So let's focus on the Shadow Trooper; those suits wouldn't be a soft material exterior; they would be actual armor. To do this costume right, you would need to make armor very similar to stormtrooper armor and mod it out to wear over a black bodysuit (again, underarmor).

As for the mask, it definitely needs some mods and reworking to look as it should.

As a parade wrangler I wouldn't allow you to march in any parade where the temperature is above 70 degrees. That is an death wish costume. Don't get me wrong it might be nice to wear around a convention but outside in the real world the wranglers would be tasked with keeping you safe and not die of dehydration. Listen Vader isn't easy. But to do the costume it takes the same amount of skill and fortitude to do costumes like that.

Well, you've got to start with something. Guess I'll have to go back to the drawing board on the costume, but at least I can use this outfit for that! :D

I'd recommend checking out different costuming sites, especially The Flagship Eclipse.

    http://www.theflagshipeclipse.com/forum/index.php

They have some great tutorials, and there's a lot that can be learned from them. Do your homework before starting again; take the opportunity to learn from the mistakes others have made. Really take the the chance to go over every little detail of this costume, and start planning. Planning ahead makes life much easier during the construction phase of costuming.
