I was having a discussion with a friend about cheerleading and it not being a sport, but it is a sport, and that got me thinking, what are some sports that people sometimes overlook.

    IE: Ultimate Frisbee

    Ultimate. Frisbee. Rocks.

That said, I don't get to play often because I'm usually too busy. Maybe next semester I'll be able to play more... I hope.

I've just played Frisbee in my free time, but not really often. ;)

Horse riding - "You just sit on the horse and the horse is working." But it demands a good constitution, balance, reaction and feeling.

Archery - "You just stay there and shoot your arrows." But it's a sport with an extremely high level of technique and you have to know your body.

Diving - "Just watching fishes under water." But if you have brains then you know that you have to train for it. This way you keep the danger of this sport low.

I took an archery course at the local tech college and it was a lot of fun.

Hmm, other sports. What about crew/rowing or lacross? They aren't very popular or talked about in the area that I live in.

Lacross is insanely popular around me.

Crew isn't as popular, per se, but a lot of kids did it at my highschool.

I don't think that cheerleading so much is a sport as it incorporates sports into it: i.e. gymnastics, which is a sport. Cheerleaders are atheletic and therefore can be called atheletes, but cheerleading is not a sport in my opinion.

Most of College Cheerleading is about being able to be a gymnast however. My brother had to learn how to do a backflip in order to even be considered for the squad. The also can do all the tumbling combinations that gymnasts do. He learned from a gymnastics coach. I think cheerleading should be considered a sport, but my opinion changed to this after watching what my brother does and how often he trains to be able to do it.

College Soccer. Luckily at Clemson it is getting more popular because we were #1 at one point during this season. Went on to lose in the sweet 16 to UCLA 3-0. UCLA went on to lose in the final to UCSB 2-1

This is so easy. I won't go into my rant but cycling has to be the most underappreciated sport in America. Period. :)

Some other good answers above, too btw.

Honorable mention - Other individual sports and endurance sports.

Sports fans here in Toronto didn't seem to care too much for lacrosse until we got a championship team here. 5 titles in 8 years will build some awareness...

    GO ROCK GO!
