FF:WA Star Wars: Jedi Academy Sessions

Apologies Saintheart.....sigh....dramas yet again.......we need to look into this problem. It is not a firewall issue after all I don't think.

 

Ok, everyone should go buy xbox 360's and the old xbox version of the game and we'd be home & hosed.. stupid connection issues...

 

A solution must be found!

The odd part is that I was able to get into the first map, albeit alone, and Stinky_Jawa was in for a moment or two, then disonnected. Weird stuff.

 

If all else fails maybe we can choose a common low ping server and join that together.

I dunno...what do you think stinky? Any ideas?

Well, when I tried to join and was having issues connecting, it was because I (accidently) had forgotten to load the map files onto my game machine, even though I had put them on the server... (duh)..

But the other problem... I have no idea.. I fiddled with my game machine last night to see why I couldn't connect to other internet games and it (and by it, I mean Vista) had split (for some reason) the network into 2 networks, one internet and one lan (neither worked by the way). Even though it is only plugged into 1 network port. Hence it wouldn't connect to the internet or anything else. So I had to kill both off and re-create the network connection to get it to work.

As for the other problems, from what I can see on the server, there's no actual connection attempts when it's not working. So either Windows is blocking the outgoing connections on peoples pcs (I actually went as far as to disable windows firewall altogether last night) or there's a problem with the server-side application in picking up the connection attempts.

I could always have a go and see if I can figure out a linux version of the host and give that a crack, but I'm not sure it's worth the time......

This is where casual console games are so good. Everything just works (except when your 360 goes into meltdown with the 3 red lights), no farting around with dedicated internet game servers etc... iinet used to have Jedi Academy servers.. might have a look around their site and see if they still do..

 

Yeah have a look and see if they still do....alternatively I can have a crack at hosting and see how it goes.

 

You have to host with a dedicated server for internet games (from what I could see). If you create a game and don't choose dedicated, once the game is started it names itself Local (or LAN) game, rather than internet.

Actually, I just checked a website here: link which was only written a few months ago about how to set up a dedicated host. It has a tutorial & a download with some files in it... (cant get it here at work, darn filter).

One thing I hadn't checked (which is brought up on that page) is the possibility of it being blocked by the router... I will download the file this arvo and check it out. Anyone want to test it's reliability in the near future? (tonight/tomorrow?)

Server is up.
And I suspect working perfectly.

Even I can see it on the game list now... Anyone that would like to confirm. Start multiplayer, join, change type to internet game and ALL game types. Should be WAFF Server 1.01.

Same password as previously. And if anyone wants a game I'll be on after 8.15pm (Perth time). I've already connected to it via my 2nd PC (however I'm on the same internet connection so I would like someone else to test before I put it in the 'figured it out' basket)..

So.. Rock n Rolllllllll...

 

Tested and success!!!!!!

I'll be on between 8.15 - 8.30 for about an hour or so.

Should be able to set up a time for a Wednesday night session as well if others are interested.

If you're still playing late(r) I'll get in there. I'm still up and good for this, it's just that we've had the painters in recently and Michelle and Jessica are staying at my in-laws' house to keep Jessie away from the fumes. Consequently I do want to spend some time over there before I come home. So put me down as a maybe -- I am still into this, I've been slowly honing my skilz on other servers.

 

That sounds good saint...we can always start a little later anyway say around 9pm or so and hopefully will still be playing when you arrive.

If you do a search and sort the list by 'ping' you should see the WAFF one towards the top of your server list.

 

Now THAT was a game!

 

It was fun, had a blinder of a headache tho (that's my excuse for my poor performance)..

TFU is good, but I still think the lack of m/p is a major let down. Would have made it, well not perfect, but a much better game.. the S/P is ok.. I mean; Few of us are playing TFU now... in a few years time, is it likely? Probably not... JA on the other hand, the games quite old and there are still heaps of servers/games going..

Anyway, rant over.. When do we plaaaaaay??? Mid-week? (give everyone time to read when)
