    Have I missed any?? Thanks.

    - Openning crawl is three paragraphs concluding with "...."

    - Pan down to a vast sea of stars and a ship flies overhead (except in Ep. II where we pan up)

    - 1138 (unfound in Ep. VI)

    - Someone has, "A bad feeling about this."

    - Someone says, "May the force be with you."

    - A lightsaber fight

    - A chase scene

    - A scene where people eat

    - R2-D2 saves the day

    - C3-P0 sustains physical damage (except Ep. I where he isn't yet finished)

    - Someone in disguise or under a false identity

    - The "Wilhelm" scream

If we can make this thread more of a discussion, as in discussing the traditions instead of just listing them, it would be a nice addition to Saga. But if you only want a list, this should be in the Community forum.

How about loss of a limb (except TPM, although sliced in half is close enough).

    Spike,
I thought items I missed or items I included which some felt shouldn't be included would spark a discussion. Then about 3 pages in it would become a OT vs. PT thread :)

    >>How about loss of a limb

Yeah, thanks. Forgot that one. I think it belongs.

A light saber fight in every Star Wars movie? You're kidding! How about:

    Laser blasts

    ships flying around

A character with the last name "Skywalker"

George Lucas's name in the closing credits

    :D

    ^^

Well, almost all sci-fi movies have lasers and space ships. Lightsabers are specific to Star Wars. Also, you can use a lightsaber without having a duel against someone else.

I'll leave it on my list.

    how about...

a new and annoying race of creatures make a debut in each episode.

...and I suppose chase scenes are specific to Star Wars, also...

I was thinking of some of the more obscure things traditional to Star Wars that you might not notice immediately. Like on the food thing, not only is there an eating scene in each movie, but a big decision or important plot development ususally happens during a meal:

    - ANH - Luke getting up the courage to tell Uncle Owen about his desire to leave Tatooine during dinner

    - ESB - Luke finding out that he's been talking to Yoda the whole time on Dagobah

    - ROTJ - Luke, Han, and Leia gaining the Ewoks as allies during their "dinner" (I think they eat in that scene)

    - TPM - Anakin deciding to leave home

    - AOTC - Anakin finally learning that he doesn't need to bother with eating utensils? (a little help on this one)

How about introduction of a new villian every Episode?

Who was the new ROTJ villian? If you recognize the special editions, Jabba was introduced in ANH. The emperor appears via hologram in ESB.

When I think of meals in ESB, I immediatly think of the Vader dinner on Bespin.

Good point. I'll call it a technicality :)

    ^^
I already listed the false/double identity

    - Hazardous encounters with monsters of various size.

    - Imprisonment: in every episode one or more good guys are captured. (and rescued)

How do you think these traditions will affect in the big picture of Star Wars? Will there be a pattern in these traditions, so that a viewer can foresee what will happen next?

In my point of view, I think that these traditions are a nice little trivia that keeps the fans hyperactive on Star Wars, while trying to find new traditions.

Really? I've never noticed this. So the word "relax" is in every episode?

Off topic, but the best "relax" ever is in T3....another Arnold classic quote.

"- Pan down to a vast sea of stars and a ship flies overhead (except in Ep. II where we pan up)"

To be pedantic, pans are right/left, tilts are up/down.

STAR WARS : EPISODE 1 : THE PHANTOM MENACE

"A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away...."

A vast sea of stars serves as the backdrop for the MAIN TITLE, followed by a ROLL UP, which crawls up into infinity.

    "EPISODE 1 THE PHANTOM MENACE"

"Turmoil has engulfed the Galactic Republic. The taxation of trade routes to outlaying star systems is in dispute. Hopingto resolve the matter with a blockade of deadly battleships, the greedy Trade Federation has stopped all shipping to the small planet of Naboo.

While the congress of the Republic endlessly debates this alarming chain of events, the Supreme Chancellor has secretly dispatched two Jedi Knights, the guardians of peace and justice in the galaxy, to settle the conflict....."

PAN DOWN to reveal a small space cruiser heading TOWARD CAMERA at great speed. PAN with the cruiser as it heads toward the beautiful green planet of Naboo, which is surrounded by hundreds of Trade Federation battleships.

Talk to Lucas about the PAN DOWN thing. I'm pretty sure they all read like that.

I have one that hasn't been mentioned, yet. In all SW movies so far, someone either swings or dangles from a cable, vine or rope. I guess it's one of those stock adventure actions (like a car chase is to action movies).

    New poster, btw. Greetings.

On the AOTC DVD, in the "Films are not released, they escape" documentary, George says that the line "what the..." is a traditional line and is in all the films.

I haven't actually checked if it's correct or not, but I'm gonna take his word for it.
