What criteria do you want us to make the comparison on? You need to be more specific.

Lord of the Rings films were always better for me than the Star Wars saga: simply overall better acting, atmosphere, story and quality.

Are we comparing it to the prequels?

I abstain in part because I have no objective criteria by which to judge and I think this thread should not be in this Forum. I would guess this thread will be moved in short order.

    I voted LotR too.

You asked for opinions, you got them.

EtA: Going by the fact that you are posting this on a Star Wars forum, where a larger number of people are going to give an obvious answer (Seriously, I'm pleasantly surprised Lord of the Rings is winning 5-3 at the moment.) I'm getting the feeling you aren't so much wanting a genuine answer to what's better, you are wanting a validation for your own opinion. In which case, don't take stock in what other people think, just enjoy your own opinion for what it is for goodness sake.

I'm going with Star Wars simply because I think the 2 best films of the two collective franchises are SW films. If I had to rank the films based on film production quality, completely objectively (and I have not seen The Hobbit yet--I imagine I will at some point--so I will keep it out):

    Ep. IV
    Ep. V
    RoTK
    FoTR
    Ep. III
    Ep. VI
    TT
    Ep. I
    Ep. II

LoTR as a whole is far from perfect, just as the SW films as a whole are. Two Towers is definitely the low point of that trilogy but it really benefits from having all three films in production at the same time.

If you ask me what do I like better? Well it's SW hands down, but just based on film production quality I will go with the list above.

The movie saga isn't the reason I am a Star Wars fan, I prefer the pre-TPM EU by a mile, films vs films, hands down Lord of the Rings.

X-Wings throw out city busting energies. But you probably don't believe that so:

Palpatine, Death Stars, SSD's, > any Middle Earth mayhem.

The Force does not count? Is that like when kids play guns and yell, "You didn't get me!"

No, the Force has never been stated to be a full on omnipotent God, in-fact the 'will of the force' is just a theory without any actual evidence to prove it has such, Anakin Skywalker for example could easily have been created by Darth Plagueis and Darth Sidious, it was only his belief, the prophecy is also not something that we have actual evidence for being true either.

Illuvitar, the maiar, the Valar and others are outright omnipotent with full control of existence, etc...

The Force on the other hand is known to not effect things we have seen in the Star Wars universe at all, so it can't be a complete god.

The force isn't sentient, and is still part of creation itself. Illuvitar is a "creator" within the Tolkienverse, from The Silmarillion. In other words, Illuvitar wins.
