    Hello :D,
How come collecting SW is so difficult, not to mention expensive?
Anybody want to share the cost of shipping for Mail-Order?
Anyone Know when EP1 is coming out here?
    Anyone out there?
    Hmmm?

You are refering to the DVD? ?[face_plain] Actually, Singapore is one of the 1st to get the EP1 DVD (even much earlier than US) in the world.

As for the cost of shipping, it will depend on the weight of your item and from where. I gotten some stuffs from US and the postal had cost me between US$4/- (pencil case) to US$41/- (Global Express Mail, DP Helmet).

    Hello Darth_Eagle.

Yeah, if more people split the cost, it'll be cheaper for everyone.

Yes, I'm refering to the DVD. I'll go look for it this weekend then.

    Thanks.

Are there many Singaporean Fans in TF.N?

Hi, I am in Singapore too. But I don't collect toys and stuff. I simply enjoy the movies. Maybe I will get into it slowly. :)

As for the EpI DVD, my friends found it at Sim Lim Square this Monday. I haven't seen it anywhere else yet.

    hazellukeyang,
Do you know how much it(DvD) costs?
I enjoy the movies too, not so much EP1, but then it's all part of the greater story. :D

i'm also singaporean and i have stayed in US for a short time last yr..
their culture is that there is no VCD there only VHS and DVD....

the proliferation of VCD here and in
various parts of asia (thanks to piracy)
has delayed the full-blown import of DVD so that's why its so expensive
    when released here..

as far i'm concerned getting the DVD is fine as long as u intend
to streamline all your movie collections to DVD (and phase out VCD
at the same time..it will die just like VHS tape in time), also
DVD is good for its easter egg but i knew Sidious is Palpy way before i
it was shown as easter egg on DVD...if u want to know how, reply.

When I get the DvD, I'll let you know if I can't find the Easter Egg.
I fully agree with you. I predict the death of VHS, but VCD, not so soon. DvD is good technology, but it doesn't cost that much to produce, I think the prices should drop for DvD to monopolise the market. :)

    HumSupFett

I was wondering when I would meet you, you're something of a legend here. ;)
    Anyhow, nice to meet you.

    Darth_Destructo,

I think the DVD costs about S$50. Am still deciding whether I shall buy it. It's a way too expensive.

One of my friends just bought a DVD player and he told me he was enjoying the quality so much, but at the same time he is crying about his wallet. haha.

If the Classic Trilogy DVD is there, I will buy for sure. But EPI the movie itself just isn't that impressive. It's not worth it.

Maybe I will buy it from Thailand or Malaysia. :)

    thanks for welcoming commitee...

anyways, i have seen TPM DVD here in Singapore already...they
have an hour-long documentary on the making of the show which
also includes the deleted scene of the part where QGon and Ani rushing
to the Queen's starship...ever notice why they were running for no
apparant reason when just before they were bidding their goodbyes
    to Shmi Skywalker?

Reason (which ive already know 2 yrs ago): Edited scene of Qui Gon
smashing a Probe Droid into pieces, thereby alerting them that danger
is approaching them soon (btw, i don't have the DVD but just guessing
that one of the deleted scenes are in the package, for those who
saw the dVd let me know if i;m right, thankx!!)

This is also not meant as a spoiler as it is already in the TPM movie:

One other thing, you really do not need the easter egg to tell
you that Sid is Palpy, notice that A FEW SCENES after Amidala tells Chancellor Palpy that his arena is here (Coruscant) whereas she has to return to hers (Naboo)?

That scene shows Sidious (in holographic mode) talking to Rune Haako and
Nute Gunray and he told them something like this: "I have made sure
the Senate stay the same as they are now,...."

Ism't it freaking obvious they are the same person???
And to think that so many people are debating it that they might not be (calling themselves true fans)...it doesn't really have to depend on the Easter egg to do so, you just have to be attentive to hear each piece of conversation.
    lah!!

    hazellukeyang,

I agree with you on the price. $50?! During this recession? Crazy... I'd kill myself, nevermind my parents... ;)
Anyhow, if any of us can get a better price, he/she will inform the rest right? :D
Some places will sell for below $50, especially if you buy more than one at a time. I'll check my "Low Bung".

Well, I saw a $49.90 at Parkway Parade in a shop at basement.

I will inform you If I go to Malaysia or Thailand.

I repeat: EPI is not a very exciting movie, it has no soul. It's like a not-so-pretty girl--no matter how much make-up she has, how expensive outfits she wears and how powerful her father is, she is simply not pretty.

    hazellukeyang,

I know, but it's canon, and besides, I'll only get it if it's worth it, i.e. cheap. ;)
Same here, if it's cheap I'll let you know.

There is a shop at Suntec selling it for about SG$43, and if you mention you know this fellow, you get it for SG$42. Only problem, I forget what is this fellow's name. :p

Actually, I know the uncle at the Orchard Emerald(Leisure Craft that building) DvD/CD Shop. He told me that last time that he can get the US version, with censoreship sticker too. On top of that, if we buy in bulk, there is a discount.
So if everyone is interested and the price is right, maybe we could check it out. :D

hey, count me in for the discount too.. thanx! but i approached this
same uncle at that shop last weekend and he told me initally it was
$56/=!! then after i told him other shops were selling for $49.90, he told
me that he'll match the price dollar for dollar...think he can be trusted
for this one? better do more rekkying before we approach him again.

    Mannequin_Skywalker,
Hmmm, sounds like Courts "We'll match any price" policy.
I agree that we should be doing more recce'ing first. I think I will go down this week to ask him. Previously, he did help me and my friend get some stuff. Maybe because I call him "Uncle".
I feel like starting a FanForce Discount Club(FFDC), where people can help each other get discount.
    It's like this,

-Get to know some uncles, aunties or shop-owners.
-Keep a good relationship with them.
    -Get discount from them.
-Offer to introduce your friends(FFDC), for the same discount or to buy in bulk.
-If he/she refuses, use your account to buy for FFDC members.
-This way, we can cover the whole country in our network and everyone wins.

Note: I believe that this will not affect the livlihood of the shop-owners, aunties and uncles because, even though they make less profit, they make more sales.
This is economics. We are also going through a recession now, so everyone needs the business, and we need the discount.

    Any support? :D

    Why not? :)

I think we should keep things simple. We just share Long Bang.

Here is one: My friend just bought OT DVDs from JB. Of course they are not done by Mr. Lucas and the quality are not DVD's. But the good thing is: they are the pre-SE version. I finally got chance to see Luke falling down(ESB) without the screaming. The end of RotJ is totally different from the SE. I am very happy.

I don't know. Maybe it's just me. But it is good to know the very early Star Wars.

actually i do have a collection of the pre-SE classical trilogy i bought
about 2 yrs ago and its all in LD format, found them in Serene Centre when
the vcd/ld/dvd shop wanted to do a mass clearance and i got them
for a measly $100. I think its pretty worth it since its pre-SE and
already out of production...too bad its not in DVD form.

The OT are the only movies worth watching again and again. I don't know when the DvD will be comming out, but when it does, I will buy the OT, won't even think about it like now.
If you all are interested in going mass shopping, we can talk more.
