I hope there will be novels set in the future
of the GFFA. But I would like there to be
books focusing on Luke's son as a Jedi Knight
or Jedi Master. Perhaps he could be the main
character of these books. Or since they would
be set in the far future of the GFFA the main
characters would be the great-great-great-great grandchildren of Luke,Leia & Han.

I think it would also be neat if the Jedi
could travel to other galaxies in the next
    arc after NJO.

I hope there will be books set in the far
future of the GFFA. These books would take
place 5,000 years after ROTJ when there is
a 3rd Galactic Republic and extragalactic
travel is commonplace:travel back and forth
to other galaxies. And the adventures of
Luke Skywalker,Han Solo & Princess Leia are
the stuff of myths and legends. This would
be like Tales of the Jedi instead of taking
place 5,000 years into the past. They would
take place 5,000 years into the future.

And travel to other galaxies would open up
many new story possibilities for the Jedi.
    I'm all for it!!!!!!!!!!

An entire series that takes place so far into the future that continuity issues are all but nonexistant...

Seems to me Potts is just trying to make his job easier. :p

Hey, if it has Star Wars on it, I'll read it. I love to read. Whether the material is crap or great. It doesnt matter to me.

Yep, same here. It's quality determines how many times it gets read. I think the only times I've re-read CS, CotJ or PoT was when I did all the books in order.

Back on topic - What kind of new threat could there be that isn't a rehash of the Sith or others?

That goes for me too!!!!!!! Star Wars is a multi-generational saga. I hope they
write SW novels for years and decades to come. And although I have always
liked books with my favorite heroes Luke,Han & Leia I hope there will be novels
set thousands of years after ROTJ because a new generation of Jedi Knights
after Luke Skywalker even thousands of generations after has always fascinated
    me.

Good question about the new antagonists: The Sith have been done, and the Extra-Galactic invaders have been done, hmmm what next?

Perhaps a split in the Jedi order as I mentioned previously? A Jedi council evolves on the teachings of Luke, while one forms on the teachings and legacy of Kyp - eventually the two philosophies collide?

Perhaps that there could be a 'Cold War' between the two Jedi factions, or even two Republics with their own Jedi councils!!!

Could end up like North and South Korea, or America and the old USSR for example.

Maybe even a Core that doesn't want jedi, ruled by a government, and the rim, ruled by the Jedi Coucil?

Similar to your previous one about two factions, but with a twist. The core would be similar to the NR, but they do not like Jedi, and run them out if they find them.

The rim on the other hand is governed by the Jedi. They make up the government, the enforcers, etc. It's a war between the Jedi and their followers, and the jedi-hating core.

And if you really want to tie it to current continuity a bit, you can say it stems from the distrust during the Vong war.

I wonder if in the far future, the populace will look back and regard Palpatine has being a good buy, who brought order, stability and helped the economy!

It's starting to look like that could very well be a possibility.

I defintely think R2-D2 and C-3PO should be in the new series in some way shape or form after all they were the only characters written by George Lucas to be in all 3 trilogies so I think it would be appropriate

Hmmm, Ron Corless, I am sure you would enjoy this thread! :)

I have been thinking about this idea more lately, I really do think it is a good idea.

I think for the next story arc, LFL needs to jump drastically into the future, or on the flip side, into the past.

I am enjoying this thread. I have replied to
this three times. What interestes me about
this topic is the possibility about travel
to other galaxies:including the Vong galaxy,
hundreds of thousands of Jedi and a third
Galactic Republic. But first I think there
should at least be some books about the Skycrawler and the Solo children as Jedi
Masters. I don't want them skipping ahead
thousands of years into the future right
after NJO. But once the stories about the
    Skycrawler/Solo children/NJO survivors are
finished then Del Rey can do a long story
arc 5,000 or 10,000 years into the future.

Imagine 10,000 years after ROTJ. Not only
would there be millions of Jedi but galactic
and even intergalactic travel would be instantaneous. The Jedi & Republic would
develop technology to travel to any point in
the SW galaxy or other galaxies in seconds.

I really wouldn't want the GFFA to come in contact with Earth in a novel. While the idea sounds fun and very intriguing, part of the fun of Star Wars is that it's almost like a modern fairy tale. These events could have very well happened in a galaxy, far, far away (yeah, I know it's fiction, don't label me as a nut), because there has been nothing to contradict what has happened in our galaxy. If the two were to meet, then obviously these events never happened on Earth, making the SW galaxy seem a little less real.

But I'm all for a future of the GFFA tale.

Well here are my opinion Bravly stolen from the rest of you:)

After NJO you have a couple of books Then we go to the future.
There is the Core who have peace and feel supirior to the rest of the galaxy

The planets the Vong destroyd are now able to settle on.

Outside the Core its small wars and fractions All of them made up by the Core worlds so they can make credits out there and so the "outside" worlds dont bother with what they do.

Inside the Core worlds there are a jedi fraction that serve the Core worlds because of an old belive or dept they have.

The "outside" worlds also have some jedi but they are not working togheter. They are helping wherever they are needed and two jedi often end up on two diffrent sides in a dispute.

One day one Jedi or somone else (grand grand grand etc son of Luke that dont have Jedi power and are more of a Han type of guy *lol*) understand what is happening and is trying to get the "outside worlds" (or maybe the lost worlds?) to get togheter against the Core worlds.

This way you can make a lot of books from the core and from ouside the core
You have 10-20 books geting to know the caracters on both sides
Then you can start to make books about the build up of a confrontation.
WOW this is the way to go :)

I'm not sure I want to jump completely 1000 years into the future or even a 100. I'd like to see the next generation of the 3 Jedi families the EU has focused on (Solo, Skywalker, Horn) given a chance to run things.

As to new threats--after NJO, some *mundane* threats would be nice.

I do see the Republic breaking up. And the Jedi begin to function as ambassadors to keep the peace between the various governments.

And the Jedi being split into different factions makes sense. Kyp's group (since they prefer action become the policeforce?), Luke's group the peacemakers, and Anakin and Jacen seem destined to form something that is more contemplative ie the priests.

I don't think that they'll jump that far into the future however I do believe that the next set of books will have something to do with something like the outbund flight project where they will send out a flotilla of ships and about 50 jedi including five of the best this could revolve around the time skycrawler would be ready to be Anakins apprentice and luke will end up dieing off to save his son on some unknown region
