Welcome to the Inaugural Basketball Draft. Hope we can all have a lot of fun with this. I, Trimaj, will be in charge of keeping you hooligans in line.

    Rules:

    1. There will be colors for the winner, a title and so forth for a week. Should there be another one (hopefully) the winner will get automatic entry in to it should they wish to.
    2. If you have a problem with any users that get involved with this, leave them at the door. If you can?t, and you keep causing problems you WILL be kicked out and your team either given to someone else or simmed for the remainder of the game. Think a three strikes and your out situation.
    3. Forum rules apply, as with anything going on within them. You should all know them by now. Discussion IS encouraged, just no baiting, flaming, or such.
    4. No replacing the commish. If I am going to be out for any length of time I will get in touch with one of the judges or someone else suitable to take over until such time as I can keep up with things again.

To signup simply copy and paste the list of 12 spots and assign yourself one of them. Should we not get enough interest we can always drop down to the needed number to get this thing going. Judging spots will be filled via PM. All are first come first serve, and if you don?t have a huge amount of basketball knowledge probably be best to start as a GM.

    Participants:

Commish: Will make sure that everything runs smoothly as possible, approve trades, make sure the draft list/order is updated, and that the list of people drafted is accurate.

GMs: Your job is to draft a team to the best of your ability (through actual drafting or trades as the case may be), send in numbers, and then argue for them to win the matches that they end up on.

Judges: You get the thankless job of actually deciding who wins this thing, as well as keeping the draft list/order is up to date as needed. Breakdowns during drafting are always appreciated as well.

    The Draft

The List: Seeing as it is far too difficult to narrow something like this down there is precisely one requirement: The person you draft MUST HAVE PLAYED PROFESSIONALLY. You can pick anyone from any era, you simply have to provide proof that they played in a professional league, be it the NBA, ABA, overseas, what have you. A link with your draft choice is required to prove that they didn?t play only in college and were not only a globe trotter (also not allowed). Here is a site that may prove useful: http://hoopedia.nba.com

    Step 1: Drafting

After all positions are filled the order will be randomized and then posted by me. After this the GMs will draft in their respective positions by posting a player and a link as proof that they played professionally. There will be 12 rounds of drafting, 11 players, 1 coach. After each round the order will reverse, meaning if you were first in the first round you are now last in the second.

    Example:

    Round 1
    1. Team A
    2. Team B
    3. Team C
    4. Team D

    Round 2
    1. Team D
    2. Team C
    3. Team B
    4. Team A

All players will be at assumed to be at both their physical primes and have all experience at their disposal as well.

    Step 2: The Matchups

This is not going to be just a straight one on one matchup situation, since basketball is more about teamwork than individual prowess. So instead there will be a grand total of seven games played setup as follows:

Game 1: One v One Halfcourt (first to 21 wins)
Game 2: One v One Halfcourt (24 minute game)
Game 3: Two v Two Halfcourt (first to 21 wins)
Game 4: Two v Two Halfcourt (24 minute game)
Game 5: Two v Two Fullcourt (first to 21 wins)
Game 6: Three v Three Fullcourt (24 minute game)
Game 7: Full team v Full team (best of seven series)

Now this would suggest that you could win by winning the most individual matchups, but here?s where things get fun. The full team best of seven is worth three (3) points. Which means that if you go for drafting just talent without cohesion you must win 5 individual matches, or you still lose. This is to make you think more about what you are doing and trying to put together an actual tea

I definitely plan on having some fun here. Also, can the neutral location for these games be at The Forum?

That probably wouldn't be neutral for all involved, Tunick :p

On the other hand, if they were all in the arena here, that'd be pretty certain to be neutral for everyone. [face_laugh]
