Well,he was only off by about 9,977 years (give or take a couple).

 

The remaining Jedi will be hunted down and defeated. Any collaborators will suffer the same fate.

Were this line and the lines regarding Palpatine as sovereign ruler for life and the Senate as an "august body" in the digital version shown in theatres and then cut from the DVD version. I recall hearing these spoken in the digital version but do not see them in the DVD version. Anyone?

Actually, it reminds me more of a George W. Bush speech. Strengthening our resolve? Hunting down collaborators? Sounds like Palps and Bush have the same speechwriters.

And for the debate about the "Republic."

There has only ever been ONE Republic. Sure, there have been one or two reformations, but the Republic, OLD REPUBLIC, has lasted for 10,000 years or more. (Probably more. 25,000 is a likely estimate: the creation of Hypergate technology, then Hyperdrive.)

They refer to the Republic standing for 1,000 years because the Republic was brought to its knees in the Last Sith War. If it hadn't been for Lord Hoth and the Jedi Generals, the Republic WOULD have fallen. But I digress; the Republic has been stable for 1,000 years, and the Ruusan Reformation reset the clocks to zero. This is why they have this whatever-dispute about the timeline.

ONE REPUBLIC. ONE GOVERNMENT.


Oh, and, literally, Palpatine's empire isn't the first Galactic Empire.
