I know this is a forum about films, but tv series isn't a very far stretch. September/October are always great months as old TV series start their next seasons and new series sprout. So for me, that means back to my regular viewings of Smallville, Lost, BattleStar Galactica, SouthPark... and I just discovered a new one... HEROES! Maybe I like it because I'm a fan of superheroes in general, but I think this is worth a watch if you haven't seen it yet. It's about 9 or 10 "random" people around the world who are just discovering that they have super powers and are coming to grips with it. There's a professor in it who believes that these superheroes do exist and is on a mission to find them (he's got some sort of formula), and ofcourse there's the possibility of impending doom of the world as we know it, so there's some foreshadowing that these random heroes will come together to save the world! So yeah, lot's of stuff going on in just the first two episodes!

I just hope it remains at this pace, without slowing down to an almost absolute stop, like the Lost series had after the Pilot episode.

i've read a tiny bit about this new show, and i'm amazed that this got past the 'pitch' stage.
it's so very clearly a total rip-off of about a dozen comic-book titles... not least of all j michael straczynskis rising stars.
plus, the fact that it took better viewing figures than the new show from aaron sorkin, genius creator of the west wing...
    wonders will never cease.

I saw The History Boys today and despite a rubbish review in the paper, I was not disappointed. I am undoubtedly biased, becoming something of a recent fan of Alan Bennett. It is a little unbalanced, the first two-thirds being generally light-hearted and I found very funny, which contrasts with a rather downcast final third and an ambivalent ending. However, I found much to enjoy throughout with Bennett's remarkable skill with language shining through in the dialogue and his intuitive understanding of the human condition. Not, I would say, everyone's cup of tea but a finely written and superbly acted film. And some incredibly, for me personally, poingnant and affecting moments. Next to see, All the Kings Men.

A new TV thread has been created, find it here: What's on the telly? :D

Funny enough, I saw A History of Violence at MK when it was Collectormania 8. I liked it, for David Cronenberg a bit different to his norm. I liked the simplicity of it, and bacially I think it's about a leopard not being able to change his spots, despite his best efforts. However, while at MK, once it ended the chaps behind us said something along the lines of 'I paid £6 for this!?!?' with a few swear words in-between, lol. Good Howard Shawe score too, although you can tell he found it difficult to shake LotR from his system.

All the Kings Men looks good, not sure if it's the sort of film I'd see at the cinema though. I haven't really read much on The History Boys but looks interesting. Thanks for the review Mark :)

I'm still in awe of Children of men to be honest. It's ganna be hard watching another film this year without thinking about how darn good that one was.

I caught the tail end of Film 2006 the other night, and they showed a trailer for 300, another Frank Miller GN turned into a film. Looked pretty amazing though, well worth checking the trailer out just for something different.

hmmmm....... devil wears prada.... I wouldn't normally watch this type of film (that which I classify as chick flicks), but it was on the plane on my trip back from the US, so I thought, why not. The film wasn't bad though... shows a nice insight into the world of fashion. It does your standard chick-flick formula in terms of the plotline. So you can easy predict what will happen next. This might be a stretch, but I think I would classify this movie as a modern and BETTER version of Alicia Silverstone's Clueless.

I saw the Omen 666 the other night. I actually DIDN'T know it was a remake of the 1976 original until I started watching the movie. It wasn't an excellent remake either. I say don't bother with this one, unless you can't find anything else to watch.

oooohhh, in one of those free London papers today there's a picture of Matt Damon filming a scene for The Bourne Ultimatum at Waterloo Station. I'm so excited :D :p
Really pleased they are filming in London and is it a coincidence that Gael García Bernal is also in London as we speak [face_thinking]

While I'm tempted to see the Borat film, and of cause Casino Royale, I'm also wanting to see Chris Nolan's The Prestige.

The new Empire mag cover is also brilliant this month.....go Craig!!!

haha, under the thumb I see Jamie :p

I aim to see The Prestige in two weeks time and can't wait. Does indeed look great and has got some excellent reviews, including 5/5 on teletext (they gave the same for Batman Begins too). Being a big Nolan fan I'm sure I'll love it, and with his Bro being the co-writer, it can but boil the blood of anticipation for The Dark Knight in '08, oooooh!

Tickets booked for Casino Royale of course (Note correct spelling Matt ! lol) Will be good to see exactly how Daniel does (well by all reports) although I still think Bronson had another Bond in him, but I appreciate the prequel scenario and Bronson's increased fee for doing it!

However, if you see one film see Casino Royale, but if you see two, then you must see BORAT, a work of genius with superb comic timing, believe the hype and go with friends to an evening viewing, best seen with large crowds.=D=

I saw The Prestige earlier and it's yet another fantastic film!!
Everything about it is top notch, especially the story, editing and visuals. Chris Nolan truely is the master of using unconventional storytelling, and The Prestige is yet another fine example of how to tell a story in a very fresh and different way.

Special mention to the David Julyan score too which is also another beautiful piece of work from him. Why on Earth he didn't do Batman is beyond me, and I don't think he'll be doing TDK either :(
It also felt like proper Victorian London. When you see films like From Hell it just feels and looks like a dressed up set, but this was just gorgeous to look at and completely transported you.

    You'll like this, not a lot! :D
Sorry, couldn't resist the Paul Daniels gag :p
