Macca attends Harrison Walk of Fame star unveiling (with Olivia & Dhani Harrison, Eric Idle, Jeff Lynne, Tom Petty and err, Tom Hanks plus others).

See, I never could get in to the Beatles.

I always found The Who to be much more entertaining.

It'll be huge, but if they don't have their catalogue on digital download sites by then, it'll be a huge wasted opportunity. Guitar Hero and Rock band have increased music sales by 200-300%

    http://www.google.co.nz/search?q=guitar+hero+rock+band+increase+music+sales

Still I guess McCartney, Starr and the 2 estates aren't really wanting in funds.

I've been thinking of buying Guitar Hero for the Wii as it seems a better game all round, with better instruments and downloadable content. But the Rock Band Beatles is making me hold off on making a decision.

I remember something in the Beatles biography that came out a few years ago that they're very protective of their songs' rights due to feeling they were manipulated and generally screwed over when the band was still together over such issues. I always thought that was the reason their songs weren't on iTunes or other similar services.

That being said, I don't think McCartney, Starr, or the 2 estates own all the rights, as Michael Jackson owns part of the publishing rights over the catalogue. I don't know exactly how that plays in, though, not being familiar with the legality of such things.

Yeah, Jackson co-owns the Sony/ATV music publishing company. And that has the publishing rights to the Beatles back catalogue. But you can bet Sony & Jackson would be very happy if Beatles tracks were ever allowed to be sold via digital download.

My friend Staphanie went to the TM benefit show... and had orchestra seats too.

She said it was pretty damn amazing.

The GH instruments work with RB2 on Wii, I can't imagine any reason they wouldn't work with any new RB game. They don't work with RB1, though of course the RB1 instruments don't work with Guitar Hero.

    Interesting to know.

I can't afford both GH & RB, so due to The Beatles I'm probably leaning towards RB. We'll see once the reviews for the Beatles game are out.

    =P~

I assume there's also a guitar controller (Rickenbacker, possibly), though the website ( http://www.thebeatlesrockband.com/ ) has a Gretch or Gibson hollow body (I'm sure one of the resident guitar heads will confirm what it's actually based on) displayed, so who knows?

Still, if the whole package is US$250, that'll be what, NZ$450-500? That's a lot of dough for one game.

I know. Highly unlikely I'll be able to afford it.

The trick is to somehow get two, and then sell one at stupidly inflated prices once the limited edition run is exhausted.

Aww, so sweet of you to up it just for me, jaypee. :p [:D]

I'm now listening to Revolution 1 (Take 20) - it's great, by the way - and am again amazed at how much Dhani looks like his father.

Oh, and simply can't WAIT to get my hand on the remastered albums! :D

You know, for years I didn't get the love for the Beatles. But I've kinda fallen in love with them, on my old last.fm profile they ended up my top artist.:p
