For the fifth Census Tournament, we will choose the greatest Rock Music Artist of all-time!

    Nomination

    • Nominations are closed.

    Tournament Rules

    • The bracket will be generated at random when we have 64 nominations.

    • Read the latest posts to make sure you are voting on the current bracket.

    • The initial rounds will have two brackets open for approximately 24 hour at a time.

    • Please do not vote more than once using socks.

    • All decisons of the Tournament Director (me) are final. Unless I change my mind.

Perhaps this would be a good opprtunity to give a listen to some music that you aren't familiar with. I don't know about where you live, but the public library in my city has cds by most of these artists that can be checked out for free. :D

Artists eliminated in the first round are in orange.
Artists eliminated in the second round are in red.
Artists eliminated in the third round are in blue.
Artists eliminated in the fourth round are in green.

Suede. Or The London Suede for those people in the US. But I only nominated them out of a crappy sense of loyalty!

OK, here's my dilemma: do we allow a slot for a solo artist like John Lennon outside of the Beatles? Every situation is different... Lennon is a perfectly legitimate artist outside of The Beatles... though an artist like Eric Clapton, when I think of him, I tend to include his work with Cream, Derek & The Dominos, etc... And while Mick Jagger has made four solo albums outside of the Stones, I really don't consider him a viable solo artist like Lennon. I suppose I'll give a slot to Lennon for now unless there are too many other conflicts.

And the London Suede? Never heard of 'em! ?[face_plain]

Yes but he's had 30 years of solo work as well. Much of his biggest success has been as Eric Clapton. Lennon..... I dunno.

Jimi Hendrix- I can't believe nobody has nominated him yet.
The Eagles- They may not specialise in Rock, but with songs like Hotel California, I had to nominate them.

Most certainly. And if someone wanted to nominate Paul, George, or even Ringo (probably not going to happen) that shouldn't be a problem either as all of them match your criteria: (Any artist nominated must have been around for at least five years or have four or more studio albums.) Likewise if someone wanted to nominate Cream (and I think they should) it shouldn't be a problem as Cream was an awesome band made up of three incredible musicians who all contributed equally in forming their sound, a far cry from a Clapton solo project.

In other words, leave it up to the person nominating. We only get two so we're going to try and nominate the artists we feel the most strongly about. The only real dilemma comes when it's time to vote... say it's Lennon vs. The Doors, can you set aside Lennon's contributions to The Beatles? Should you? That's what I'm not sure about.
