Without that event somehow altering Cybertronian evolution into better looking robot designs, we'd still be stuck with scrap- just scra[ with (hopefully) better characterization.

IDW's prequel and sequel comics have tried so hard to improve the film stories into some kind of TF mythology, but the films keep letting them down.

The space shuttle was added to the ship so the U.S. government could maintain military control until the Autobots "were gone" (as in leave Earth). Missed that part of Frances McDormand's quote.

    ...

This doesn't really make sense since the shuttle SHOULD NO LONGER have been attached to the ship once the Autobots were finally forced to leave the planet. The shuttle should've been attached during that scene where Optimus and Ratchet go to the Moon to visit the Ark, but not later on in the film. I'll quit defending the movie :p

EDIT: The Huffington Post is randomly calling TF3 a "Middle East-occupation parable"... Good Gawd.

How could anyone in their right mind call a nearly three hour long Baygasm a "parable"?

    [face_laugh] @ both of you.

That somebody could actually give Bay credit for some kind of deeper meaning in his movies and at the onion being awesome. thanks for posting.

Megatron was badly wasted in Bay's trilogy.

Think about it - He gets killed in part 1, plays second fiddle to the Fallen in part 2 and then gets pushed around by Sentinel before being killed in mere seconds by a weakened and one-armed Optimus Prime. What a waste of a great character, he could have been so much more.

Dark of the Moon improved on ROTF, but it still had numerous problems. Shockwave did almost nothing and had virtually no lines, did he even kill any Autobots?
Why was Soundwave a Mercedes? He's the communications guy he should turn into something that represents that like a spy truck. He didn't do any minion deplaying either, Lazerbeak was in it but there was no indication he had anything to do with Soundwave. ANother waste of a great character (plus I had a hard time knowing when he was on screen unless a character named him, because he looked too much like the other decepticons).

Too many annoying characters that were put in for humour and generally failed. John Malkovich was pointless as was the chinese office guy, the two midget Transformers who live with Sam were irritating. Sam continued to complain and generally get in the way just so LaBoeuf could get screen time, his new girlfriend did more than Megan Fox managed but still served little purpose.

It looked good for sure, the effects were excellent and even the 3D worked very well. I just don't get why a guy like Spielberg would allow Bay to keep making such a movie, why not fire him and bring in someone who could inject a little substance and heart into the whole thing?
The Transformers cartoon was good because you could tell each robot apart and they had individual traits and personalities which you could warm too. That way it was also more impactful if one of them were to die, I watched Autobots die in DOTM and I didn't care mainly because I didn't know who was being killed and none of them outside of Bumblebee and Optimus had any character development.

If more are made, wait a few years and drop Bay and the rest of the human cast. Bring in Galvatron, give more colour to the Transformers and develop each one more.

    Well said. =D=

Now if Mr. Spielberg would listen. But I guess that's difficult considering how much $$ each and every of these dungheaps passing as movies has racked in at the box office.

I tried to watch Transformers 3 but the cinema lost power just as Sam and buddies got to Chicago. Now I have to watch all the beginning just to see how it ended! :(

PS. Is there ANY purpose to Sam's girlfriend other than her being eye-candy?

Its because she WAS Megan Fox. All they did was make a brand new character and add a line about "my girlfriend broke up with me."

Okay I get it...Spielberg doesnt like to compare the director to Hitler. But WHY come up with a brand new character? Surely there are other raven-haired twentysomethings that could play Mikaela.

I refer people back to Team America: World Police - "Why does Michael Bay get to keep on making movies?"

Seriously Spielberg, I know you lost some integrity when you made Indy 4, but have some balls and stop working with glorified porn directors like Bay.

Simple...his films make money and lots of it. There is no greater deciding factor than profit, not even quality.

In the first one Megan Fox at least did something constructive now and again (okay maybe once). This new person seemed to only be there to fill the Michael Bay Quota of Gratuitous Cleavage and provide bum shots. Then again, I *did* miss the last 45 minutes of the movie so maybe something happens so she becomes more than a sentient prop.

I'm pretty sure the screen abruptly going black was both better in terms of plot coherence and overall film quality than anything that actually happened in the film. Consider yourself fortunate.

Hilight to read. She calls Megatron a bitch, which makes him have a change of heart and fight against Sentinel.

That's all she existed for....to call Megatron a bitch.

    I think Spielberg is either
    a. coasting on his successes so much that he's become lazy
    or
    b. is simply too nice and lets people do whatever they want

Because lets face it....everything that was wrong with Crystal Skull is because George Lucas has become a money grubbing hack.

Incase you were all wondering Carley is not a new character but an old character.

Carley Spencer was the original character in the cartoon series. She married Spike and they had a son together named Danielle between the second and third season.

Awesome ROTS review; never lol'd so hard. Too bad it's all true. So true that it sorta makes me ashamed to acknowledge I saw any of the PT more than once or that I may even still be a SW fan.

So, I had the misfortune of seeing this film. A few things:

    1. I was falling asleep throughout the movie. Not that it mattered to my comprehension of the plot. Who was that? Why is that exploding? What is the robotic thing randomly cart-wheeling around for? It never mattered. It just kept happening, with mounting absurdity, in slow-motion and in 3D, to "dramatic" music and after as "surprising" reveals that the character in question wasn't actually dead. At least I think that was supposed to be the point. They all looked the same; maybe several of them died after all and I just didn't know it. Anyway.

    2. Did the good guys seriously just say that they deliberately waited for what must have been tens of thousands of people to die just to prove a point? Because simply waiting for the Decepticon assault to begin wouldn't have sufficed? They had to let human suffering reach some unimaginable toll?

2b. Did the "good guy" seriously just rip someone's head and spine out, and then shoot someone in the head who was a wounded, crippled combatant begging for mercy? Pretty sure the Al-Sadr death squads in the Iraqi Civil War were more merciful than this. Certainly less gruesome.

    3. How does dropping one planet on top of another "save" it, or the race that lived on it?

    4. Do you mean to tell me that all they had to do to foil this plan was destroy a single one of these satellite things, of which there were literally hundreds scattered across the planet, such that they couldn't all possibly be well defended? And that, in response to this, they decide to attack the most heavily defended one of all?

    5. Did we really need and HD 3D upskirt shot of a woman walking up a flight of stairs in only her underwear? Really? Were we trying to help out pornographers that lost their jobs in the recent global recession there?

This was the most singularly stupid film I have ever seen in my life. The idiocy here is the sort responsible for the Presidency of George W Bush, the Dark Ages in Europe, and makes the original Roman descriptions of the inhabitants of Crete look overly generous. It is so tremendous as to be immoral. Ye gods what a terrible film.

I can only answer point 4. The one they were trying to destroy was the 'master cylinder', so to speak, that controlled all the others. Destroying any one of the others would not have been as crippling.

I don't remember what you're referring to with the 'letting thousands die', because I've blotted most of the film from my memory. But the rest of them are valid.

The humans were fighting in Chicago for a reasonable period before the Autobots ever showed up. Nor did said humans even head for the city for a considerable time until after the Decepticons began their assault. The movie seems to imply then, that the Autobots sat idly by for what was at least hours during a full scale military bombardment of one of the most populous cities in the United States. There was no chance to even attempt an evacuation, and we saw several civilians during the "climax" (What was that, anyway? That thing went on longer than all the other parts of the movie combined). The death toll there had to be huge.

EDIT: Falcon, yes it was. If anything, it was worse than I'm describing.

People getting zapped by death rays, human remains littering every street.

Basically, War of the Worlds, only Decepticon death rays arent so efficient as to turn the bones to dust.

    EDIT --

Well Jabba, what were you expecting? "A Michael Bay Film" sums it up perfectly.

that was so true... still don't like the weirdness of those videos so much. or maybe I do... weird.

    awesome find/fact.

wocky- the further I get away from the film the more I realize what crap it is, which is such a shame, because I really think the first one was good.

After seeing the third one, I bought the second one used to watch it before seeing the 3rd one again with my friends. I had only seen it the one time in theaters before that. I attempted to view it twice, falling asleep both times (and I picked up where I left off on the second viewing). I then decided, despite being a completist, I could not warrant having that film in my collection. I returned it for half of what I paid. And it was worth losing the money.

I have decided that between this film and green lantern (the only two movies I've seen in 3D besides jackass), 3D is a a cover-up for awful movies. Between the CGI effects and everything popping out all the time, I can't tell how bad movies are when I see them in 3D.

But you nailed it. When they were jumping out of the plane, even though it was exciting, I was tired of everything going on and thought to myself, "why is this happening?"

This really is possibly one of the worst films of all time.

And the look of the transformers, now that the coolness of actually seeing these things on screen has worn off fully from the first film, is truly terrible.

The only redeeming quality are the hot girls- and it's not nearly enough. Especially in the second one.
