    Now when there are three people from Iceland here, are you interested in having your own forum?

    Nah, maybe when we are 10 or so... does it really take so few to justify a new board?

    Wishnud:

    "Mörka Vader"?
    Have you actually seen this translation, or did you just make it up?
    I know Chewbacca was called Tuggbuss in the novel, and Tuggback in those audio/story book thingamajigs, but I've never seen "Darth" translated!

    Also, a few corrections (sorry, I can be a real smart-aleck when it comes to these things):

    It should be "ljussabelsduell" or "lasersvärdsduell", written as one word, not two.

    And "asteroidfält" would be a more fitting translation than "asteroidbälte".
    I'm no astronomer, but I do believe "Asteroidbältet" is used exclusively for the area between Jupiter and Mars, which, as far as I can tell, is nothing like the asteroid fields we see in TESB and the AotC trailers.

    And he/she wanted me to translate: -- Lightsaber Duel -- you se two separated words :)

    And about Asteroidbälte you are correct.

    Edit: I heared Leia say: "mörka vader, du skall inte komma undan med detta" in some old audiobook, but i might be wrong.

    The most ****ed up translation must be this one from one of the early editions of A New Hope (from English to Norwegian)
    "Your fathers lightsaber." - "Din fars lette sabel."

    "Din fars lette sabel" is the same as "Your fathers light (heavy/light) saber"

    What was they thinking? :(

    Haha, "lette sabel"...

    A wonderful translation is in the swedish translation of The Thrawn Trilogy, where Wedge is kalled "Kilen"... (kilen= the wedge)
    It took a while before I understood who they were talking about... :D

    i read the whole book without knowing that wedge and kilen were one and the same. that was the first and last time i read a swedish starwars book. and i think wishnud forgot the most one of the most used translation to swedish when it comes to lightsabers, namely: ljussvärd, meaning lightsword. Thats the word i use the most anyways...
    and are there really only three people here from iceland. What about the guys who made the fanfilm "Lords of the Sith". There were a bunch, and they hang around in the fanfilm boards here on JC i think.

    I once saw a version of ANH, that had the Millennium Falcon translated as Haukka,
    the ISD Avenger was Kostaja and the Executor was, of course, Teloittaja.
    Names should NOT be translated!

    Another funny thing about the Thrawn trilogy is that Rogue Squadron becomes Röd skvadron (Red squadron). Which is wrong since Rogue is the same as a bandit. They mixed it up with rouge (red).

    Isn't rogue squadron translated as skojarskvadronen in the OT visual dictionary?

    Yes, it's definitely the most beautiful translation... :)

    And Rogue Squadron I've seen many translations of... Röd skvadron, Rogue-eskadern, Skojareskadern...

    In my translation of ESB they call each other "Bandit", which is a correct translation, but sounds rather stupid, IMHO :)

    One version of ESB (the movie) translated the Rogues as "konna", which is not bad.
    Actually it's quite accurate, but I hate translated names.
    And konna reminds me always of turtles (turtle=kilpikonna).

    And one of the worst names: Chewbacca = Tsäbä
    ANH: Storm Troopers: "maybe it's a drill" = "ehkä se on pora"
    pora=drill (machine that makes holes)
    harjoitus=drill (exercise)

    The guy who made up these 'translations' should be dragged behind the sauna... there's still plenty of room. ;)
