So I looked around and didn't see a thread for this yet, so I thought I might create it. I watched a match last night between Bayern München and Zenit St Petersburg and it got me all fired up for the Euro Cup. I hope to be able to see the games for this on my lame American cable package... ;)

So Euro 2008 in Switzerland / Austria! Discuss!!!

I've actually got some friends who are interested in this, so I might actually watch some this time around.

Looking forward to see if Greece can come back from their World Cup disapointment, as well as how Italy have fared since winning that World Cup. Oh, and lol@England.

I'm looking forward to it. We should hopefully get some good exciting matches and if we're lucky, after these four long years, a team totally different and new of non boring European Champions!

A team that isn't Greece, or plays like them. They had the most boring matches of the last tournament. By far. Their style of play was entirely uncaptivating. They were the least deserving team to win that tournament that I recall seeing, offhand at least.

40 Days left as of today!

As for Greece winning, it was a nice upset, but a shame that the Czechs lost in the Semis, Czech vs. Portugal would have been a great, offensive final. Still compliments to the Greeks and Otto Rehhagel, who did a masterful job as coach.

Greece plays an highly defensive style of football which is very effective against big teams and also incredibly boring to watch.

Shame we missed the Portugal - Czech Republic final but they'll be facing each other in the group stages. Although not sure about Czech Republic, I know Portugal doesn't play entertaining football these days (nor do they get proper results) so I don't think the match will be as good as it could have been four years ago.

The Czech's have no where near the team they had four years ago, even if Nedved comes back, he's a shadow of his former self. His injury in the first half vs. Greece was clearly the turning point in the match.

Didn't they cancel Euro 2008 because there's no point in a football tournament being played without England? [face_batting]

Har. Why would it be played without England?

I'm not entirely sure. Something about letting everyone else have a chance at winning it this time round [face_worried]

But it sounds like the final game last time was Portugal / Czech Republic...

England failed to qualify for the finals.

The final last time was Greece/Portugal, not CR/Portugal. Greece won.

Yes and I definitely remember England being one of the top 3 teams in the FIFA World Cup in 2006... ;)

Yes, because England always are the best team in any tournament.

In all seriousness, I'm not sure who I'm tipping to win this year. I have a feeling it will be either Germany or Italy. As to who I will be supporting, well, I have to weigh up who I hate the least :p

I am utterly biased and will be rooting for Germany.

You can always support the opponents of the teams you don't want to win, that's what I did in '98, took the Dutch long enough to lose though. :(

    Wiki is your friend.

That's good news for me. :p

    Thanks I'll check that out!

EDIT: Okay so... England has never won the Euro Cup, nor has it even advanced to the final game. Only been third place twice... Sounds like someone was overselling his team... ;)

That's what England fans do. Well, that and suffer eternal disappointment.

It's all part of a secret plan by the English national team to lull everyone else into a false sense of security ;)

Luckily we got pay tv at home a couple of months ago, so I should be able to see most games (the important ones at least)
