Did anyone else catch this pilot?

Overall I thought it was very good. Space lizards seem so 80's now, but I don't know what else they could have that would be any better. At least this way they avoid retreading BSG skinjobs too much. You don't need some fancy and suspect test, you just have to knock away a good chuck of skin.

I wonder how some Obamaites will take it, with the way they portay hope and change.

Overall, a very entertaining show. If nothing else, that was the point.

You mean the way that the Visitors offer hope and change, but are really . . . . well, if you've seen the original series, you know what they're all about. I don't want to spoil anything for those who don't remember the original or who didn't watch it on SyFy over the weekend.

Yeah, I kind of got that allusion.

However, I think the preview for next week's episode may have given away too much - its almost spoilerific in its own right. [face_not_talking]

They didn't preview next week's episode, they did a preview for the episodes they have in the can already, a lot of shows do that after their first episode of the season.

I liked it a fair deal, outside of the one obvious twist.

I liked the pilot too . . . from the bits I was able to catch last night. It had some good pacing and kept with the spirit of the original miniseries. I am disappointed that Morena Baccarin's character is not named Diana, though. Also, was there a character named Michael Donovan in the episode? I didn't see one.

I saw the pilot last night. It was pretty good, but I pretty much know how the story goes.

I laughed when I first saw they were doing this. Another remake of an 80s show... Any chance of Marc Singer making a cameo?

I was concerned there might be something like that in there- but I think they made it complex enough to play both sides of the idealogical spectrum and everything in-between, since the V's used rightwing policies and extremists to destabilize the world to the point where they could use fake leftwing concepts to fool people into achieving totalitarian goals.

I kept expecting some radio talkshow host or news editorialist to appear suddenly in the show and proclaim that the Visitors are evil and must be nuked immediately because they are bad liberal commie socialist traitors since they want to give everyone universal healthcare.

But then again, all those kinds of people were V agents to begin with, I guess.

Pretty much. I mean- Glen Beck is an alien really explains a lot, doesn't it? ;)

The whole universal healthcare line was pretty bad though. Subtle, they are not.

I loved it. I'm a huge fan of the Originals and have been waiting for some movie/tv series to do a good job with the V type alien invsion thing for a long time. Hey if you can't top it, might as well do a remake!

I hope they don't get carried away with seemingly regular people who turn out to be aliens.

So far - so good! I am ready for more! I have to admit, I got a little carried away at one point and screamed at the TV....I didn't want him to be an alien....and it surprised me when that other guy was one, too! I hadn't watched the original for a long time, so I was totally open for what they wanted to throw at me! :)

They are only showing 4 episodes. The show will return in March, after the Olympics. This does not bode well for the series. I hope it can keep people's interest until it returns.

Well, the ratings were pretty strong for the 1st episode.

I didn't realize they were splitting the show, makes sense though with the holidays and all.

I'm assuming they'd reair the first 4 in March, particularly if they do well now or get positive reviews, to try an pick up more viewers.

I downloaded the first episode off iTunes to watch. I had never seen the original series, so I really went in with very little in the way of expectations about what the series should be, or what to like and dislike. Much like my introduction to Battlestar Galactica, I think that not seeing the original first was probably for the best, letting me see the new series without bias.

-The characters took a long time to grow on me. That most of them did eventually grow on me is a good sign, but I still don't remember the names of any of the characters beyond Anna. The kid really, really annoys me. He might grow into someone useful, but for now he's a standard stock teenage moron character, someone who does something stupid to advance the plot every now and then.

-The special effects were excellent. They felt big-screen quality, not at all second rate in any way. Really good sign of where television can go in the next few years.

-I laughed out loud at the pilot hitting the ground. Awesome special effect shot of the jet, and then the most ridiculous sight gag since the guy hitting the propeller of the Titanic. It was sort of a /facepalm laugh.

-I'll definitely watch the next episode. How many I watch after that will depend on how intelligent the characters and plot are.

I miss the old opening theme music.

I dislike how the alien's are called V's ... I prefer Visitors from the old show, and how the Resistance uses V as their code-sign, sorta like WWII - Winston Churchill's V for Victory.

I did like how that they still feature the story line of the alien fifth column.

Looking forward though to seeing the beautiful Morena Baccarin eat a Rat! :)

I really enjoyed how Morena's Anna character plays Scott Wolf's character. Really manipulating, fun stuff.

I really enjoyed last nights show and loved the line that Vistor doctor said when he killed the injured V cop. It was something like..."The 5th column says hello". Great line!

I also like how the resistance is starting to come together with the main 4 meeting up at the end.

I do sort of miss the Mike Donovan character from the original, but I'm sure they'll be mixing in some more key resistance members if the show continues.

at least the last one had a cliffhanger... of sorts...

One thing bothers me... why does nobody ask them to move the ship? The people in the MetaLife building don't get any sun at all and we generally don't like big spaceships hanging above our heads, esp. in cities. There are perfectly suitable rivers on all sides, use them :p

No, they're intentionally holding the second half of the season until March or so next year.

I'm kind of curious where Tyler's character is going. He is "the one," and I'm assuming that that's not in the same sense as the Matrix. Given how early its introduced, I'm assuming that it's not something that the writers will figure out as they go along, rather that they know where they're going and can hopefully tell the story as they like.

    What he might be:
-Human/V hybrid. The father is out of the picture, he could have been a V (John May?)
-The most tasty one, who's even tastier than rats and gerbils. Mother and daughter will have a nice meal out of him, and won't need to eat for a week after (I like this idea)
-The Vs can't reproduce on their own anymore and need other races. Lisa has decided Tyler is the one for her. As part of the female mating process, he will be eaten.
-Someone whose existence their Prophets foretold was necessary to be the greatest BBQ meat that the Vs ever had (Unlikely, given lack of V religion to date)
-The one best suited to appear on the cover of the new V cookbook, "How to serve man."

I feel hungry all of a sudden.

You beat me to it, answering your own question! :)

    Perhaps he is the entree?

Interesting things that a different than the original series. It seems removing the human outer layer disguise is extremely painful, and not easily done? Ie: how that medic was sentenced to be skinned?

Also, what is this whole thing about "Bliss"? That was never in the original. My gut feel is not only is Anna the mother of the lovely Lisa, but probably the mother of them all, ie: a Queen Bee type character.
