DB. I live 25 minutes from NYC, and I haven't found the accent yet!

 

The Canadian accent or the New York accent? Cuz, I know in some parts of NYC they have an accent.

 

I don't have an accent, but everyone around me does.

 

Ontarionans have accents?

 

They have accents to me. They sound different than British Columbians.

 

In Brooklyn, and Queens, and stuff they have accents, but in my town I can not tell the difference between the was I speak and the way everyone else speaks

Apparently I have a Norwegian accent . . . which is weird considering that neither me nor anyone else in my family is Norwegian . . .

 

LOL..before I came up here to college, my soon-to-have-been roommate called me in Florida...she said she could barely understand a word I was sayin, my accent was so strong! She was from Ontario...

 

You guys have an accent in Florida? I didn't think you had an accent Tammy.

 

I've always thought it was similar to George, Louisiana, and those other southern states. Overusage of "y'all" and a thick drawl.

 

My accent has kinda worn off bein up here...you can hear it in a few things I say...but you get me around another southerner, though, and it comes out right strong...

Wow, that was so weird! I went to refresh the page, and when it refreshed, this thread was completely gone! I just stared at the computer, refreshed again, and it was back! Weird....

my mates can, but I cant seem to tell the difference between canadian and american accent.

i met this woman in a flat with my mate. she was canadian but we didn't know. my friend knew though. that really got me anoyed. the only way i found out she was candian was that she had canada fridge magnets.

how do you tell?

 

It's very easy to tell the difference actually. Americans pronounce many words differently, for starters. Schedule is "sked-u-ale" in Canada and "shhed-u-ale" in the USA. Roof is "roof" in Canada and "ruff" in the USA. Also, Canadians say "eh" a lot, and Americans (but only the ones from the southern USA) say "y'all." Plus, the overall sound is different, but that's impossible to describe. It's far easier to distinguish a Canadian from someone from the southern USA than it is someone from the north, but it is possible.

 

I don't have an accent, I have a crappy annoying voice anyway, not all that 'talyhoo old chap' nonsense
