What if the droids did take Amidala to the camps, and the Jedi didn't show up? What does Nute Gunray achieve with that? She just had to sign but she didn't cooporate, so when in a prisoncamp, she'd still refuse... that's Amidala...

In all likelyhood, Sidious would order to have her executed if she wouldn't sign the treaty. Then, Palpatine could create a vote of no confidence in Valorum and gain sympathy votes because of Amidala's tragic death.

    Sidious is one slick bastard

They would have kept her alive for a while and if she did't sign the treaty, they would've killed her

They were afraid to kill her. Because if she didn't sign then they coudn't win.

The Trade Federation, yes, but Palpatine would have benfitted from her death, as it would have garnered sympathy to the Naboo and made Valorum appear weak and corrupt. Therefore, Sideous would have ordered her killed after a time had it not worked into his hands in another manner. It would come down to who the Nemoidians feared more - that of the Senate or that of Sideous.

If Ambidala had been taken the camps, the Jedi may not have been able to rescue her as efficiently as they had. This leads to no escape to Tatooine, which means the Jedi never discover Anakin Skywalker. And depending on how you view Star Wars, that's either a good or a bad thing. :)

Big Sid had his bases covered. He would've been in the same boat if Amidala's ship had been blown to pieces while running the blockade. She was, after all, just another expendable pawn.
