What is so BAD about the love dialogue/acting between Anakin and Padmé?

    "Rebel Scumb,
I was not suggesting that AOTC or any other SW movie have or should have a sex scene. I was just pointing out a difference between AOTC's love story and other love stories in movies today."

Oh ok, good, either way though I don't think people expect sex in SW, peopel thought it was odd just seeing anakins nipple in his 'magic dream' scene.

I don't think there is really much sex in the average movies these days, sex has pretty much been put back behind closed doors in this PC era of ours, which is sad, because its such an interesting subject thats relevant to everyone.

" Oh, should mention this too-- I just got back from a college film class, and the professor was talking about the effect directors want to create by having a completely dark background behind the actor(s). By doing this directors want the audience to feel uncomfortable."

Bingo. Its pretty cool eh? there's so many little things like that.

For the record I really dig the dooku anakin duel, my only beef is that its too short and that they did not have more of a personal conflict, but as SW duels go its one of my favorites.

"And not only did they bond while enjoying each others' company, they also went thru tragedy and tough times together (Shmi's death and the first Clone War battle). Don't these instances involve danger and excitement?"

yes exactly and these scenes are a million times better and show more romance and chemistry between the two then any of the romantic scenes do. The naboo scenes are a waste, they should've gone straight to tatooine and fallen in love there.

"I don't think there were nearly as many sex scenes in movies when ESB was released."

Actually there were exponentially more, the late 70s early 80s were when nudity and sex were at an all time high in movies.

Now adays its not cost affective to have sex in most movies as it ups the rating and prevents the flow of teenage and child demographic cashflow.

Interesting. I don't remember as many sex scenes from the movies of that era (at least not in action movies), but I could be wrong.

Much nakedness back then. Lots of private parts.

If you look at films like Diehard and lethal weapon there s all sorts of gratitus breats shots.

once it finally became legal to put sex and and nudity in films, peopel put tons of it in because suddnely they could.

By the 80s exploitation was at an all time high with PC and concerns about what kids viewed at an all time low.

You'll never hear more sursing, or see more gratituis sex and drug use and bloody horrible violence then you do in 80s films.

"The naboo scenes are a waste, they should've gone straight to tatooine and fallen in love there."

Well, I gotta disagree. Tatooine doesn't exactly have an atmosphere that's conducive to romance. All that dust and heat...yuck! Like Anakin, I don't like sand. It's coarse and rough and irritating, and it gets everywhere. ;)

I think it's great that the early stage of their relationship starts on Naboo. It's a place of beauty that matches the carefree and playful mood they are in when they start to fall in love.

I also like how the setting changes to Tatooine - a harsher environment - as they begin to leave the innocent phase of their relationship. And then when they get to the hellish Geonosis, where Padme pledges her love, it's cool to look back on how dramatically things changed since they started off on Naboo. You get the feeling that the innocent times are fastly fading into the past as darker times approach. :(

I think we're more like family, we bicker like family, but we still all care about each other, we're still all part of the same geeky SWfan family.

    Geeks?! I'm a...geek...? :(

Actually, I'm not a huge fan of sci-fi, so I don't consider myself a geek. :p I just like good stories of different places and times. Ours is so boring.

EDIT: Well, it was before the war. Now it's starting to get scary.

There's a difference between nerds and geeks [face_batting]

As far as I see it- anyone who is knowledgable or enjoys discussing a particular subject that gets them excited is a geek, you just don't see it applied to all such instances very often. Their described as fans or fanatics instead, but it's all the same thing.

Anyone who geeks-out over car models and engines would be a car geek, anyone who geeks-out over sports statistics and sporting events, etc would be a sports geek and so on and so forth.

See, I don't "geek-out", as you so eloquently put it, over anything. ;) :p

I just enjoy certain things. 'Course I'm not a very outgoing person, so that might have something to do with it... Still, even by myself or with other fans, I just sit back and watch the movies. That's about all there is for me, concerning SW.

Acually, a geek is someone who is socially inept or unconcerned with socialising. This may lead to particular hobbys, habbits etc.

The fact that you are a fan or have a hobby cannot make you a geek. I was only funning about ST!!

"it helps that Romeo never comes across as an obssessive, self-absorbed, homicidal creep the way Anakin does."

If Anakin was really obsessive, he would never have given up so easily when Padme told him she wasn't going to fall in love with him at the fireplace. A self-absorbed person would not concern himself with the safety of others and as we see in AOTC, Anakin made a desperate attempt to save his mom, he saved Obi-wan on several occassions, and he wanted the Clonetrooper to land so he can pick up Padme who fell off the ship. Finally, a homicidal creep would just kill people for the fun of it and Anakin only killed the Tuskens to avenge his mother who was tortured to death by them.

"Seriously, put yourself in Padme's place. A girl you briefly ran into ten years ago wanders back into your life, says she's spent ten years thinking about you, launches into a whiny tirade the first time you ask how she was doing, gives an euology where she only talks about herself, and confesses to mass murder. Do you a) run like hell, b) get her help, or c) run off to Vegas at the first opportunity?

I pick B because I am not about to run away leaving her alone knowing that she might bring harm to herself and to anyone she bumps into. Sure, I can hand her over to the police but they'll just throw her in jail without giving her any kind of treatment so I'll talk her out of doing anything else she would regret for the rest of her life the same way Col. Trautman talked Rambo out of going through with his war with the police in "First Blood".

[face_laugh] I agree. The fact we're not only discussing the merits of a movie, but of a certain scene, but not just the scene, but the dialogue of that scene....that's geeky.

Maybe my defintion of geek differs clonetrooper, but I don't imagine every geek as some Steve Urkel look-alike. and I dont think geek is a bad thing at all.
