Windows 95/98 were fine, windows NT sucked! ug. I hated it when my parents had nt on our family computer. fortunately after i bought my computer with XP Home on it, h went out and bought XP for the family one, do NT is long longer! yay! :p

I actually really like the way the star menu is set up with XP, and the design on the windows. Once i got rid of that horrible greeen, that is :p

I have XP Home, and find it to be the best version yet! Bear in mind I have had my new computer for under a week, and it was the first time I have used XP Home... and already in a week, I love it!

What is the difference between XP Home and XP Pro?

I've been using XP Professional for a week and it is really nice though it takes some getting used to.

I think the difference between XP Home and XP Professional is that XP Pro is more oriented towards business whereas XP Home is more oriented towards Home users. Other than taht I don't know. Probably on Microsoft site.

Yes, I thought those differences would be pretty obvious!

From what I recall, XP Pro has better security features, while XP Home relies less on security, but more catered towards Audio & Video.

    Can anyone confirm this?

Yeah Gath, you forgot ME :p

OK, in terms of troubleshooting, 98 is the best and easiest and 95 is the worst.

3.x isn't supported by anyone and I haven't even seen it since 1998.

ME is pretty good, pretty much the same as 98.

NT is a giant pain in the ass.

2000 and XP are almost the same, but XP is annoying because you can personalize it too much which makes troubleshooting annoying.

I'm a big fan of Windows 2000 Server; I've been using it for over a year now and I find it to be very stable. ;)

Windows 2000 is THE most stable OS that Microsoft has released.

    XP is decent, but...

    [venting anger]

... networking is extremely difficult, due to the plethora of 'helpful' wizards that are available. IMHO, XP goes too far with the concept of 'User-friendlieness' and creates a system that cannot be used by a high-end programmer. Also, XP has almost no reverse compatibility in any sense, from networking to gaming to hardware tweaking!

    [/venting anger]

Although the XP Start Menu Options are fairly helpful...

I apoligize for the massive venting, I will try not to let it happen again, but not making any promises... ;)

    Later!

    XP Pro

And yeah, I think the main difference between Pro and Home is just that Pro has more emphasis on security, that you're average home user might not need. Still, because I operate it on a notebook, which means the computer isn't always in the safety of my home, I prefer to have more security.

I didn't like XP Home the first time I put it on my computer, but after I upgraded my memory, it works alot better.

    Windows must bleed.

Go Linux! Open-source all the way.
