    Either I've read this before or "I've known, somehow I've always known" 8-}
I THINK it was the novel for Star Wars, trading cards, or the screenplay (or a variant of a shooting script), could have even been a character bio in the movie program or something.

Ya know what just occurred to me?
I had the Definitive SW Laserdisc box set and that had 9 Laserdiscs. 6 discs were films and the rest was director?s commentary, photos, screenplays, notes, outtakes, etc. Stuff that never made in into or onto any other medium, maybe that was it, where I remember some of the odder stuff. This was all pre-SE versions and quite extensive, 10X what the DVD releases ever had.

B U T, as Jack pointed out (and very correctly) memories can be quite faulty.

Second draft Notes (1975): LEIA (LARS) the beautiful sixteen-year-old daughter of Owen and Beru. She has a crush on Luke.
LUKE STARKILLER a short, chubby boy about eighteen years old.

If you ever read all the varriants on the early versions, it's REALLY quite different from what hit the screen, even the shooting script was different than what ended up on film.

You know we had the "original" trilogy on VHS and I believe on laserdisk as well. I recall things that I have never again seen in the original trilogy. I know only have the 1994? trilogy. In this there are extras at the beginning and end of the movies. This was the last release before the "rereleases" came out just supposedly remastered.

I take it from the word, "had", that you are no longer in possession of these laserdiscs. If true, a pity. Sounds like they had much more on them than the DVD releases.

Since the "Luke" character was originally supposed to be a girl, does that mean "Leia" was going to be the lead?

Second draft notes from 1975. Hmmm, kinda shoots down my "theory" about the porno film, don't it?

Nope, sold it with my 3RD LD player when I got my first gen DVD deck. Silly me I ASSumed Star Wars was going to come out on DVD sometime in 1997 and quickley after the first few decks came out.

Well, I am bringing this thread back up from the dead. The reason: unfortunately to put a big hole in cathiecat's theory. I'm not critisizing the theory, I just did some research on Morichro. This is from the Unofficial Star Wars Encyclopedia that one can download from TF.N (its literally like 3000 pages). Here is the entry on Morichro:

That means that Morichro is used to kill another person, or to suspend THEIR OWN life for up to a month. Padme didn't have the Force, so she couldn't have put herself in a Morichro trance. And even if she could have, it only would have lasted for a month. Yoda couldn't have done the trance on her, because when it is used on another person, it kills them.

    SORRY CAT!!!

There is more info on Morichro than that though

    Morichro, Forbidden Jedi Technique
Morichro is a proscribed technique entrusted to few Jedi during the years leading up to the last days of the Jedi Council. Yaddle, a long-lived Jedi Master, was one of the most prominent practitioners of this dangerous technique. Morichro works in a way similar to a Force trance. It slows a being's metabolism, breathing, and heart rate (or similar biological systems). Unlike a Force trance, Morichro can be used to affect beings other than the Jedi employing the technique. Abusing this power CAN be fatal. For this reason, the Jedi Council forbade its use. Interestingly enough, dark side Force-users are not known to use this technique, since studying Morichro typically requires the student to master less malevolent uses of the Force.

Morichro is a long forgotten Force power from the time of the first Jedi in the fictional Star Wars Expanded Universe. It is the process of slowing down someone's body functions using the Force, in effect placing the person into a healing trance. The use of this technique is frowned upon in the Jedi Order as it can easily kill a person if used incorrectly. Thus it was taught to very few Jedi, and was virtually banned in the "Rise Of The Empire" Era.

The most well known practitioner of this archaic force power was Yaddle, a member of the Jedi council during the time of the Old Republic, more specifically around the time of The Phantom Menace. The secret of Morichro was discovered by Yaddle in an ancient Holocron inside a forgotten section of the Jedi Archives.

Though Morichro was mastered by Yaddle from the time she became a Jedi Knight, she taught it to few of her padawans, as it could easily be misused.

While it is EXTREMELY dangerous to use this technique on someone it can be done, you just have to be VERY careful to not kill them, which is why I said in the story I wrote that Yoda had to be so careful as to not go too far and kill Padme, instead of place her in animated suspension.

Well if she was already dying, risking putting into a "healing trance" was the best option. Even if it backfired, she was already dying. No MORE harm done if it failed. If it worked.......

Now assuming she did survive. Her kids were scattered across the galaxy, husband dead, republic destroyed, who know what Palpatine did to Naboo, her life as she knew it gone! Than (after all that) would she still have a will to live?

I don't know why but since 1997 I assumed Padme raised Leia on Alderan guised as a "handmaiden" or nanny. At least for a short time before she died.

LUKE: Leia... do you remember your mother? Your
    _real_ mother?

LEIA: Just a little bit. She died when I was very
    Young.

......"The Force is strong in my family. My father has it, I have it and my sister has it".... Or somthing like that.
Could it be that Leia recalls images of Padme from the force? Perhaps from the Medichlorians? If in fact Padme had lived wouldnt Vader have been able to feel her life force? she was the love of his life.

    No..I thing she is Dead

" No. I...I couldn't have. I felt her, she was *ALIVE*! " Vader to Sidious in ROTS..... Vader up till now has never felt Padme die.. or at least GL certainly hasn't bothered to say Anakin/Vader felt it...

Lucas did say that he was never going to explain why Leia knew more about her mother than Luke.

That being said (and I think I've said this before) I think Lucas decided to change the story he had planed. He's done this before many times. Many things changed when the prequels started being written and many opinions and viewpoints changed in the original trilogy after knowing the back story.

    IMHO.

PS... I still don't like how and why Padme died, or at least the film explanation, or that on film she even died at all.
