There's some casting confusion when it comes to who played what in Return of the Jedi; Alan Harris, Bossk's original actor was on the set of Return of the Jedi, so it would be assumed that he played Bossk, but that isn't necessarily true. According to a recent interview with Trevor Butterfield (an actor who played multiple parts in the movie), he wore the Bossk costume during some scenes because Harris was doubling for Jeremy Bulloch as Boba Fett.

Does anyone have any clarification as to which scenes Harris and Butterfiend played Bossk? When asked about ROTJ, Harris still says he was Bossk during at least one scene, so I think it's possible that he was played by two actors. In a related note, what scene was it that Harris played Boba?

Personally, it sounds like Trevor Butterfield played Bossk during the palace scenes, while Harris played Boba during the Lapti Nek sequence. Alan Harris could have also played Bossk during the Sail Barge scenes.

Yes, but from these accounts, I believe Butterfield also played Bossk in ROTJ.

Autographs and such haven't really been much of an indication: I've seen both both sign pictures from either the palace or the Sail Barge. They couldn't have both played him during those scenes. And I know some fans are really anal about having a an autographed piece be from the actor that was playing in that scene. I mean, I've seen Jeremy Bulloch autograph pictures where it was a double in the Fett armor.

EDIT: Here's an example of what I mean:

IMDb only lists Butterfields special effects credits and Alan Harris is not credited for the role of Bossk in ROTJ. I'm not sure if this is because Bossk was kind of hidden in the background or maybe originally intended to be a different character. They may have reused the costume and the character was retconned to be Bossk.

While the role was cut down considerably, it was always intended to be Bossk; hence why Alan Harris was originally expected to return to the role. If the costume was any different, I could see an argument for a different character, but I've always seen him cited as Bossk.

I think I have somewhat of an answer. Alan Harris was known for his height, and was taller than Boba Fett in Empire. In the picture in Jabba's castle, it would appear that Bossk is shorter than Boba. With that reasoning, I say that Butterfield plays him there, and Alan Harris plays him on the sail barge scenes.

I don't think you can see him in the film, but he appears in production shots.

Alan Harris was initial picked to wear the Fett costume in ESB but then he decided to go with Bossk instead....I've only ever read of Jeremy Bulloch and stuntman Glen Randall wearing the suit in the original ROTJ production?

Wow, he turned down Boba to be Bossk? What a badass.

Also, I've heard that as many as six people donned Boba Fett suit during Return of the Jedi. There should be more about this in the upcoming book, but Alan Harris was just one stand-in (probably because the suit was made around him in the first place).

He can be seen on Jabba's sail barge when R2 and C3PO run into each other I believe. It is unknown if he survives though. Long Live Bossk!

Yep, and who knows if they made it out alive. A spinoff movie on bounty hunters may happen, and if it does, I guarantee these old school mercenaries will make an appearance or two

I've heard that Disney is in negotiations with Tony Danza to portray the character in a forthcoming spinoff film.

    Can you confirm that? :p

There have been some myths and wild guesses at who played Bossk and when. I shall try to unravel the truth. Why me? Well, Alan Harris is and has been for the past 68 years, my brother, and I have just spoken to him to find out the truth.
Star Wars: Alan played a rebel escort to Carrie Fisher and a mechanic.
Empire: The Boba Fett costume was made around Alan three months before filming started. Alan was totally unaware of the flamethrower built in the costume and when they tested it, it gave him quite a fright. Alan was never picked for Boba Fett it was always Jeremy Bullochs part and nobody elses. Alan was (and still is) the same height as JB. Camera angles can be deceiving. Alan's main role was as stand in for Anthony Daniels (C3PO). Alan is slightly taller than C3PO and it was for this role he had to flex his knees and bob down. Alan was the only person to play Bossk in Empire.
He was also in 'blues' (an 'Alanism') as a Bespin Guard. He was also in 'whites' (another 'Alanism') as a Storm Trooper. He was also the body for the Carbonite and apparently in that scene he had straws up his nose so that he could breathe - very uncomfortable. After the plaster cast was dry, Alan's face was cut out and Harrison Ford's pasted in.
Jedi: Again Alan's main role was as stand in for Anthony Daniels (C3PO). As C3PO was in most scenes, Alan had no chance of getting in and out of the Bossk costume as he was needed on set most of the time, but did have another spell in the 'whites'. Bossk was demoted to the back of the shot and was played by Trevor Butterfield. JB was Boba Fett.
Phantom: Alan was back again when he doubled for Terrence Stamp (Finis Valorum).
Away from Star Wars, Alan was going from one engagement to another, and among his other roles on his CV are; the TV series The Saint & Danger Man, and films such as Oliver, Branigan, Superman I & II, Space 1999, The Great Muppet Caper, Dark Crystal, When Dinosaurs Ruled The Earth, Hellraiser, Hellbound and Night Breed to name but a few in a very long list.

So what do you want it written in the blood of George Lucas, Kershner & Marquand.
I'll post more info on my blog in a few weeks time, including dates for forthcoming 'signings' including the Star Wars convention in Indianapolis early next year where you will find Alan. There will also be more dates in the UK and Europe where you will be able to put the thumb screws on him and get a confession.

Even if the man himself says it happened, that doesn't necessarily make it true. If I told you I'm George Lucas, that's obviously not true. It's like Russel's Teapot, in a way
