No. Why should they tell us what has happened over the years? I think we'll all get it as we watch the movie. I like the mystery of the past and have the story of the pass 30 years be told in the movie. I don't want the story told in the opening crawl.

Turmoil has engulfed the Galactic Republic. The taxation of trade routes to outlying star systems is in dispute.​

Thinking out loud andusing the two crawls above as a base since these are the respective beginnings of their trilogies...

Episode 7
Here we will get two sentences outlining the broad conflict in the galaxy. Since we last saw the Galactic Empire defeated in Episode 6, the first paragraph will establish that there is something wrong with or some group is threatening the New Galactic Republic. I think it’ll have a new name, maybe something like the Unified Nation of Systems or maybe the Unified Republic of Systems and it'll just be called the Republic for short?

So the UNoS is in trouble. What has happened that started the trouble or what has happened to set the events of this film in motion?

Now that things have been set in motion, someone needs to take care of the problem to ensure tha continued peace and justice in the galaxy...
