I hate to say it, but it looks like NAD is dying a slow death. I had hoped we would have had a picnic by now, or people would be into the book thing, or even to go see another movie, like batman or fantastic 4. Thus far no events have been schedualed that have gotton off the ground. What can I do, as CR, to get people motivated?

I've seen quite a bit of some fanforce members as of late. Just in the last two weeks we've:
Gotten together at borders,
Had 2 prop parties,
Trooped a kids fair and a birthday,
Another prop party is next week....
Wait, these are all 501st things...
Well, looks like we're doing OK, wanna get together with Star Wars fans? Come to a 501st event. Seems like there's one every week!
The fanforce is mainly a "What toys have you found" group lately.

NAD is intended to be a more passive group for the folks who enjoy SW but don't eat, sleep and breath it. Some people can't seem to grasp that concept. Yeah, it used to be nice when we used to get together once a month or so and have picnics, go to movies and generally enjoy each other's company, but apparently that's not good enough for the "cool kids". I have suggested for some time that new leadership is in order to no avail. At this point I really don't give a **** anymore, the movies are over so whatever.
But hey, at least we know we can get season 2 of the Mary Tyler Moore Show for $24.99 at Best Buy.

Actually, we did have a picnic on June 11th at Glenn's parents' house. We had about 7-8 people there, as I recall. Not a huge number compared to last year, but not bad considering it rained that day.
Sometimes all it takes to get an activity going is for one person to post a thread offering an opportunity to get together. Just something as simple as "I'm going bowling on [insert date here]... who wants to join me?" Might not get a huge crowd if it's at the last minute, but there's always a few people (*cough*me*cough*) who have very little social life outside of NAD and can go see a movie or something with little advance planning.

Once upon a time, we used to begin planning the following month's event the day after the current month. Lately, we've gone past the scheduled event date before any discussion even begins.
At this point I'm not even sure if new leadership would help. Would the last person to leave, please turn out the lights.

i've always thought there should be more flexability in locations....but that didn't get anything....
....i agree with toymaster....it was intended to be more passive for the "normal, everyday fan".....i am not against different groups overlapping, but obviously there are conflicts....i personally think they should be seperate. which is not to say if you're in both you can't go to both, but i think there needs to be the defenition. this is NAD....that is...whatever..501st or whoever.
i thinkalot of people are MIA espescially in the summer.......and the heat.....or with things going on in their "real lives"  hopefully in the fall more people will show back up.....
i'd offer to have a "pitch in" bbq , but
A) we're in murfreesboro,
B) our yard just isn't that big....nor is our house.
C) our grill isn't that big either
just my 1 1/2 cents.

I can see the 501st doing more like visiting children's hospitals, cons, birthday parties, etc... You know, Star Wars-related group type things with a purpose. Getting together to go bowling or a movie doesn't really have much to do with Star Wars. I hope there is more to look forward to with all the movies being wrapped up, but I do kind of feel like I got started with the stormtrooper thing a little late in the game, so to speak.
BTW, I tried generating a little interest with my Stormtrooper thread, but I was told that nobody here cares. That's a good way to encourage new members.

Clutch- I also have been reading your progress with intrest, I know skips remark came off as negative, but some members are intrested, they just may not have anything much to contribute, like audiogirl said.
I hope you did look at the 501st forum, though, because they are very helpful and experienced in your project. Their army grows if you finish it

Ill jump in here now,
no my post wasnt supposed to be negative.The 501st members that post here have gotten flack all along.every once in awhile new "troopers" will blur the lines of Nad and the 501st.
while clutch had every right to post pics of his trooper armor progress the fact remains that only the 501st members that post here even looked at that thread.the normal members couldnt care less and even despise the whole trooper thing and thus i posted a little comment regarding nobody caring.
had clutch taken a moment to realize who i am perhaps he wouldve realized that my comment was to steer him to the 501st website and to begin posting there instead of torturing the few remaining members with yet another convert to the ever growing 501st legion.
As for "being late" with the whole trooper thing,Not a chance,weve got events lined up for months and months,we'll keep ya busy if you want to actually come out from behind the computer and wear that armor.we get together for random events and conventions and more,you really need to investigate the 501st more to get more of an idea of exactly how active we are.and when we arent doing real events we get together to build props and armor,nearly every other weekend there is something going on.
so check out all your options.
and NAD can be saved ,i wouldnt give up hope just yet.I would recommend getting things back on track with perhaps a pre-dragoncon meeting?see what happens?

I have on numerous occassions invited any and all NAD members to come to 501st events. I don't mean come out and wear a costume, I know that's not for everyone, but there's no reason why the fanforce can't come out and get get together when we do. There are several NAD members that do come to 501st events and if you ask them, I think they'll tell you we do have a good time.
While some here are moaning about the "Death" of NAD, the 501st is so busy we have to turn things down now. Every week we have a new member, Lester and I have helped put two stormtrooper suits together in the last three weeks. I understand Glenn is having to turn people down for membership... why is one group dying, and the other growing larger? Who knows.
NAD and the 501st can get together for things like Horrorfest and the E3 Premier, why not all the time? I'm not saying NAD should be 501st groupies, but you guys could come out and those of you that have costumes and want to wear them, great! Those of you that don't do the costume thing can just hang out and enjoy being with other Star Wars fans.
And Clutch, Skip wasn't being negative, he was just trying to direct you somewhere that your project would get the attention it deserves and a place you can get help and advice,

you know my stand on Nad,the RL and the 501st.
as far as im concerned theres no reason not to be a bunch of fun groups that intermingle.but some people will always seem hostile towards this "family" of groups.
oh,well, their loss,ill just have to have fun with all the rest of the people.......
If you guys all look at each other and complain that nothings going on then continue to look at yourselves.dont wait for the Cr or anybody else to start something.you wanna get something going just post the ideas like they did with the book club.post it and see what happens???never know a few others might actually want to come and join you.

The website problem seems to only be salvagable by JediToren who last I knew was out of the state for a few weeks.
Loki, the meeting at Borders was more FF than 501, but in actualality it was neither. Only friends getting together. Don't go bragging about 501 events until you're ready to host a FF event.
I'm puzzeled be the lack of activity also. We have new guys coming along and y'all will rebuff them, and when we schedule an event no one shows up. No one, but Shannon, Obi-TN & Skywalker has stepped forward to organize an event. But when the event goes down only 4-5 will show up. The old regulars are disappearing more and more each time I turn around. Then I get crap from the other groups (you know who) about talking to the FanForce members, both of them (ha,ha,ha,ha). Unfortantly, it's less of a joke each week.
If you hate the DVD updates, Mike, then don't read them. If you want my resignation you may soon have it, but it was your idea for me to have the job. NAD needs ideas not finger pointing.
