I don't have a radar gun for my car (few squad cars have mounted radar in Metro). I give people 10 over the limit before I pull anyone over or ticket them. The only way I can tell if someone's going 10+ over the limit is to do that speed myself and see everyone's relative speed.

I must've left the speedometer calibration in my other uniform.
Anyway, new gripe... my apartment complex is "letting me go" as a courtesy officer. Nothing that I've done wrong -- it's being done corporate-wide. No more courtesy officer jobs anywhere on United Dominion properties. Kinda sucks, but it does give me more time to focus on my comedy career. Maybe even try to get "Dear Hama" printed in the Tennessean.

OUCH!!! Thats just plain stupid! I guess they would rather have the residents calling the local on duty police, than to rely on police officers that are working for a discount to reside in their complexes. Thats corporate America for you. I'm sure they had one bad experience with somebody else and are changing their coporate policy because of it. Will your officer's discount disappear immediately too? Or will they at least wait until its time for you to renew your lease?
At least your are looking at the bright side of it. Kudos!

Dylan always has a good attitude about most things.....I'm sure the apartment complex values him enough to keep his discount!
If not, I'm sure there are others that will!

Umm... no. I keep the discount for the month of March, but April 1st my rent jumps from $619/month to $764/month. And no more $500/month paycheck to help cover the rest, either.
I could probably look around at other complexes, but I think I'd rather do without a pager for a while. Plus, I hate moving (which I just did 18 months ago, and with a lot less heavy stuff). I've gotten all my debts paid off, and even managed to put a little away. So the rent isn't that big of an issue right now. I may end up looking at houses before too long, though.

yes! buy a house! It is a great time to do so. I know for a fact that if you pay that much in rent you can buy a house or condo. Plus, it looks good to the ladies when a guy owns a home

Okay, I'll gripe. I'd like to gripe about dogs that bring you presents...
Like dead bunnies!
Our German Shepherd, who is the biggest coward ever brought a dead bunny into the house and hid under the desk with it. Guess what my feet touched when I sat down at the computer??
I think she must have scared it to death because there's no way she killed it. Maybe one of our cats killed it, one of them is mean enough...

I'd like to gripe about pets that run away and never come back. Like this bunny I had... I let it go out and play in the front yard, and I never saw it again. I wonder what happened to it...

I'd like to gripe about student drivers.
Especially student drivers of 18-wheelers.
Without a CDL.
Who are lost.
Whose driving instructor is asleep in the passenger seat.
Who can't seem to spot a parked police car.
A parked police car with its blue lights on.
Whose occupant has a cup of hot coffee up to his lips.
An occupant that hates mopping up coffee from his dashboard, laptop, and half-finished accident report after a student driver of an 18-wheeler without a CDL who is lost and can't spot a parked police car with its blue lights on... hits the patrol car and keeps going.
Fortunately, my Sergeant and another Officer saw the whole thing happen and pulled over the soon-to-be-former trucker. And I'm not hurt. My siren mount and front bumper, however, look like they're frowning at me.

I'd like to gripe about people who stand in the middle of the hall writing text messages while you're trying to get on the elevator. Then, once they finally realize you're coming, they move right in front of the elevator buttons, but don't press anything. And THEN, once you've pressed the button to get the elevator to come and you're both on the elevator, they look at you expectantly like they want you to press their floor for them (it's college, kids--surely you can count to 7!) And then they panic when they realize that you don't live on their floor and that you've already passed theirs. Argh.

Wow, Hama! I'm not sure who deserves a sitation more (assuming they both don't get their CDLs revoked) for their stupidity. Glad no one was hurt. But if they are already so lax NOW, how bad will they be when they have been at the wheel for a while. I'm not sure I could operate a big truck like that, but I think I would try to steer clear of a police car with its lights on...maybe slow down abit just in case the officer was just about to open the door or something like that.
Anyone with a PDA/cellphone that doesn't pay attention to what else they are doing is just asking for "five across the eyes" --Al Bundy, "Married with Children" quote. At traffic lights, stores, in front of elevators...all places to be courteous to others. I have a cellphone myself, but I make an effort to NOT inconvenience others. If there was no one else in the elevator, I'd suggest you lean against the opened door of the elevator while you read something in one of your books, emails, etc. I'd even wait about as long as they did before you move out of the way... When they complain, you can reference their own behavior back at them.
My gripe, parents that don't take care of their kids...including discipline...in public places. At home, I don't care how they behave. But in public, parents shouldn't let kids scream. It annoys everyone else. No, I'm not asking everyone to hit their kids...discipline is more complex than that. Nor am I talking about infants. I understand when an infant cries. Its those over 5 that parents should be able to control. I have seen good parents with good kids, and it works. And from time to time EVERYONE can have a bad day, but when I can pick out the kids in a store because the were annoying loud the week before...and before that... enough is enough. Sometimes I hear the parent(s) talking and I can't help but wonder what hope there is for the kid(s) when the parent(s) have no sense of responsibility.

I'm with you completely on this one... I made the mistake of doing my grocery shopping at SuperTarget a few weeks ago, and by the time I made it over to the grocery store side (I was distracted by clothes and toys for about an hour..), it was 4 pm and all the kids were with their parents, fresh from school. There were SO many of them and they were all screaming and loud and easily distracted.. I thought I was going to have a panic attack. It's horrible to see the lack of parenting that's going on... there's a difference between not hindering your child's identity and letting them run wild and disturb other people.
