Okay, so we're already in April, and no one's started the usual movie review thread. Guess there haven't been that many good movies yet. Well, I've found one.
Thank You For Smoking
This movie is freakin' hilarious. It's one of the best comedy movies I've ever seen. Lots of clever lines, and there's no danger of "dej-ha-view" (the feeling you've already seen all the funny parts in the trailer).
It's a story about a tobacco lobbyist and how he promotes smoking. In the opening scene, he's on a daytime talk show with three anti-tobacco spokespeople and a 15-year old lung cancer patient who's just given up smoking. In a matter of minutes, he's turned the audience to his side and is shaking hands with "Cancer Boy." His argument? "Obviously, we want this young man to live. If he died, we'd be losing a customer. We'd rather have him alive and smoking. My opponent here wants this young man to die, just so he can blame it on tobacco!"
It's really clever humor -- they say the politically incorrect things you always wish they would say, but never do.
I'd give it a out of 10. It's rated R, mostly for language. It's more of a borderline PG-13, IMO. Still, I wouldn't bring young children to see it.

I recently saw Ice Age II: The Melt Down:
{Keep in mind, I have not seen Ice Age, so I am going offf just what I saw in this movie. And I was told that this one wasn't as good as the first.}
Over all it is good. It is supposed to be a kids movie. Their are a few cases where talk of repopulating the species gets rather detailed for a kids movie. The Toy Story and Shrek sets were much more entertaining...and the inuendos were more cleverly disguised from the kids.
There were several amusing jokes. I though Ray Ramano and Dennis Leary were pretty good voicing their characters. I would hate to give away the movie if someone had not yet seen it. The plotline is good but the journey towards the conclusion was rather disappointing. I heard kids groaning at some of the scenes. The modification of geology and evolution was well thought (even if not perfectly accurate). It is the dialog that I had the most problem. It seemed tired and extremely predictable --even for a kids movie.
I rarely agree with the critics. Usually any movie they give great acclaims usually does not appeal to me. The less they highlight it, the better it usually is. {This is not always true, but this movie falls in this category.
It gets out of 10.

"Knowledge is a 3-edged sword...." "Don't make me destroy you..." Imperials and Vorlons, bringing order back to the galaxy. "We live for the one; we die for the one!"..."my Master!"
