I'm heading to see it this afternoon. I hope it's as good as I have heard. I mean I like to see a man in form fitting suit as much as the next girl, but I am a Superman fan as well and hope they do it justice.

IMAX looks like its sold out for 3 PM on Fandango. Darn. Oh well... I might just see it again in regular/matinee mode and do IMAX when its less crowded. Hope you all enjoy it!

Has anyone seen the IMAX 3D yet? Just curious what the 3D is like. On Fandango it just says "some scenes are in 3D."
We are planning on going to Opry Mills Saturday to see 3:30 showing if I don't work.

We went & saw it at the Thoroughbred this weekend. I was a little disappointed to say the least as it wasn't near as good as I had hoped. I expected there to be a bit of an edge to Superman after being gone for 5 years. Yet he picks up his goody two shoes (red boots) right where he left off. And what was with leaving out "the American way"? Is it not politically correct to be an American anymore?!! In one scene, the head of the Daily planet sends his reporters out to find out why Superman was gone for so long and if he is still for "Truth, Justice & ...all that stuff"! THAT scene made me want to just get up and walk out of the theater. When I was growing up Superman WAS an American icon. He was as much a part of America as the Star Spangled banner. I guess according to Hollywood, he isn't anymore. In Superman IV they turned Superman into an international political character by having him remove all the nuclear weapons from the earth for fear of a nuclear disaster. The worst of the Superman movies in my opinion. Why try to make this Superman like the previous films from the 70's & 80's? Why not break new ground, have an original thought or approach. I & II were good in their day (especially II), because they were cannon with the comics. III, IV were given over to the cheese producers of hollywood & were just plain awful. I was glad that they kept the original John Williams theme though. Unfortunatley, in this movie Kevin Spacey's Lex Luthor in my opinion was far better than Brandon Routh's Superman. And what is with the ditsy girlfriend like mis Tessmacher (SP?) in the original Superman. She was totally unecessary & annoying. In my opinion, this movie was not even close to being as good as Batman Begins.
I don't think that I would be inclined to drive out to Opry Mills to see this in 3D after seeing it already. They could have easily cut a half hour out of the film. Some of the scenes were a little unbeleivable like the part with the people being thrown around the plane as much as they were & not being injured or DEAD. Then when Superman opens the door after they nearly did a face plant into a baseball field, everyone is neatly in their seats & just a little shook up, but no major injuries. Also how much footage of the krypton crystal islands growing do we really need to see? And when did Superman & Lois do the wild thing? In Superman II he was human when they did it. That of course brings to mind a Kevin Smith clip from Mall rats :
Brodie: It's impossible, Lois could never have Superman's baby. Do you think her fallopian tubes could handle his sperm? I guarantee he blows a load like a shotgun, right through her back. What about her womb, you think it's strong enough to carry his child?
TS: Sure, why not?
Brodie: He's an alien for Christssake. His Kryptonian biological makeup is enhanced by Earth's yellow sun. If Lois gets a tan the kid could kick right through her stomach. Only someone like Wonderwoman has a strong enough uterus to carry his kid. The only way he could bang regular chicks is with a Kryptonite condom, but that would kill him.

Good point. She wouldn't remember. Some how, he took her memory away with a SUPER kiss at the end of Superman II. And if she realized it WAS his kid, don't you think she would feel a little violated. Maybe he snuck in her bedroom one night. We already know from Superman Returns that he is a peeping tom in spying on Lois & her family at their house. He even went into her little boys room while he was sleeping without telling them that he was there.
Pirates of the Caribbean II anyone? Times at the Thoroughbred are:
11:30 AM
12:00 PM
12:30 PM
1:45 PM
2:40 PM
3:10 PM
3:40 PM
5:00 PM
5:50 PM
6:20 PM
7:00 PM
8:15 PM
9:00 PM
9:30 PM
10:10 PM
11:30 PM
12:10 AM
There is also a midnight showing for those of you who don't need much sleep or don't mind being zombies on Friday.

As soon as I heard that they were not doing a fresh restart of Superman but were instead making it a sequel to a movie made 25 years ago, I though that was the worst idea since Halle Berry playing Catwoman.

Superman Returns was sort of a redo of the original Superman movie. The structure of the movie was sort of the same and there were many scenes that were recreated.
Last week, before going to see Superman Returns, my brother Patrick and I were watching a show about Superman and they showed the scene where Christopher Reeve delivers the line about standing for "Truth, Justice, and the American Way." I turned to Patrick and told him that I'd bet money that we wouldn't hear anything about the American Way in this new movie. Unfortunately, I was correct.
Went to see PotC: Dead Man's Chest today. It was decent but seemed a bit slow in places. I don't think it was as good as the first one.
