RE: Episode III Discussion

I don't know about you guys but I loved it. Here's what I posted at the NER boards:
I loved it. There were some funky aspects to it but overall I thought it was great.
I thought the scene when Palps tells Vader that he killed Padme was incredible. When Vader goes off and destroys everything, to me, was him COMPLETELY harnessing his Dark Side abilities for the first time and just unleashing his wrath.
I said it before and I'll say it again here: This was Ewan's movie. He absolutely took it over. I was blown away by Obi-Wan. Some of the lines he delivered were just amazing("I've failed you Anakin...I've failed you." "You were my brother! I loved you!"). Having the balls to take on Grievous entire crew on Utapau...WOW!! Obi-Wan stole the show in my mind.
I thought Hayden did a FANTASTIC job in this one. He really matured in between movies and you could see it up on the screen. When he tells Padme that he can overthrow the Emperor and that THEY can rule the galaxy...wow! Even Portman did a pretty good job I thought.
The duel...man what can you say about it? I thought it was incredible. Anakin obviously overconfident in his abilities in trying to take Obi-Wan from a covered position. The way Anakin relentlessly pursues Obi-Wan(I HATE YOU!!!!) even after being cut down and torched(Boy how 'Terminator' was that huh?)
I was a little confused about Grievous though. He rips through 5 Jedi in the Clone Wars with 2 sabers but Obi-Wan basically whoops him with 4!!!! Maybe that's a notch in Obi-Wan's belt though...who knows? Overall I liked Grievous but they definitely could've/should've done more with him.
I thought Palpatine was awesome...even though Anakin's seduction was a little fast. Most of the dialogue was good in that scene except for:
"Are you going to kill me?"
"I would certainly like to.."
That was kinda lame.
The slaughter was too fast. Also I would've liked to see the kids get cut down(yeah I know...I'm sick). If not that then do what Matty said and have him swing the saber to attack and wipe to the next shot.
No Mon Mothma, Shaak Ti(DAMMIT!!), Governor Tarkin(albeit for 2 seconds), Rebellion formation...that didn't make any sense. Those deleted scenes had better ROCK on the DVD.
I notice a lot of people complaining about not 'hearing' the 501st mentioned but it was stated that the 501st would not be mentioned in the movie but it is implied via the Visual Dictionary that the batallion Anakin takes during the Purge is the 501st. Hell, that works for me!
Overall I loved it. The 2nd viewing within 24 hours helped IMMENSELY too. It let me take everything in without the initial shock of 'the last movie'. I have a feeling that it'll grow on people the more they see it.
PS: No Boba huh? That kinda surprised me. Oh well.

I'm with you on the no Boba thing. I would have liked to see a teenage Boba Fett getting ready to become a ruthless bounty hunter.
My feelings are so mixed at this point. I'm seeing it with a bunch of friends from out of town tomorrow night, so I'll be able to discuss more of what I liked and didn't like.
I've got a new respect for Obi Wan after this film. That I will say.

Its really weird after seeing it a 3rd time I have to say I liked it a lot less than from the 1st time
basically the movie leaves no lasting impression on me after i see it...tonite i slept through some of the movie actually....it was torture watching it again
the fight scenes and the cgi are amazing, and very fan boy friendly...which is to my liking
however ep 3 has done nothing to make me think "hey that was a damn good movie"....the movie gives me no lasting effect and gives me nothing to think about after seeing it....i feel no emotion after my 3rd viewing
also i was disappointed on a few things with ep 3....mainly the fact that 2 of my favorite characters Dooku and Grievous are misused and dealt with horribly in the movie...in these two guys you have some real possibilities and potential that is spoiled by lucas in this movie
also i would have liked to have heard from qui gon when he was communing with yoda...and i would have actually liked yoda to mention something about dagobah
the greatest jedi killers in the galaxy Grievous and anakin actually kill no jedi on screen....what the heck????
also how bout some back history on grievous for those of us who know nothing about the EU books..or perhaps how bout some more history on the relationship between plagius and sidious....anything would suffice
whats the big deal if the movie is 3.5 hrs long, as long as it is good and does justice to the originals

How about they made such a big deal about Shaak Ti, Luminara Unduli, and Barriss Offee in the Clone Wars Cartoons, but they're not even IN the film.
I really have to re-rank the films. I hate to say it, but I think I liked AOTC better.

General Grievous: [Mace Windu has parried Grievous' first surprise attack] Quite skilled. Allow me to introduce myself: I am the silencing machine. Lay down your life now and I promise you a painless death. Your weak force powers mean nothing to me. I have but one mission: to destroy!
Mace Windu: Oh, I do not think so.
When did this happen?!

Apparently it was a cut scene that was in the script but never made it to finished film. Maybe a deleted scene on the DVD?

Execute Eric Lindros? Huh?
Well, I didn't get to see it in digital, and apparently there were a few scenes in digital that we didn't get to see in the film version. So, I'll see those.

ROTS is the best of the prequels imo. Those of you who are disappointed with it I think set your expectations too high. I have seen it twice in theaters and will wait a while before I go again. I wish I had resisted spoilers because they make it seem like you've seen the movie a few times when you actually do see it the first time. I watched ANH last night and it makes ROTS fit much better.

Jerry,
I watched ANH too, and found it weird after watching EP3. R2 seems older and less flexible, it was cool seeing the stormtroopers. and I looked at them with moreawe than when I saw it for the first time. Funny how the Imp officer calls the force an "ancient religion" when it was prominent only 15 years ago. Why does it take 15 years to complete the Death Star, when it only took 4 to complete the ROTJ DS, that is bigger?
I found it cool seeing Luke, and realizing that it is the baby all grown up. And when Leia and Darth talk, I found myself yelling at the TV "That's your DAD!!!"
ROTS is still a disappointment.

The irony is that was Richard's 15 MINUTES of fame.
