So who here has any interest or intention of shelling out either $299.00 for the bare bones, or $399.00 for the maxed out version of Microsofts newest way of making money, the X-BOX 360.
Ahh but caveat emptor. It seems that the bare bones 360 is not backwards compatible wity standard X-BOX Games and alot of the newer games like Battlefront II will not play at all on the 360. And to get the full effect of the 360 your set needs to be an HD TV. Meaning you will have to shell out an additional 600.00-1500.00.
Personaly I had thought about getting a 360 later on in 2006 but after reading about the game issue and other factors (and the fact that I hardly play my regular X-Box any more and its collecting dust under my TV) I have decided that this is not for me. Besides I rather save the $400.00 (or more) for more important things.

I'm not in the market for a new game system -- there are more pressing financial issues for us right now -- but I'll eventually get the PlayStation 3. I grew up with NES and Super NES, bought the PS1 (which was the end result of the failed CD-ROM drive project for the Super NES), and I just dusted off my PS2 for Dragon Quest 8. I've found that the PS consoles have a better selection of RPGs and adventure games, which are my favorite genres.

If you really want to go back to the way back machine.
I just saw Atari Flashback2 (aka2600). In one of my parents
mags (First STREET -www.firsrstreetonline.com). For $49.95
The system that started it all. I remember playing that
Snowspeeder game on it. Q*Bert ,Pitfall & River raid were
my favorties.

Y'know, it's a funny thing about a lot of the really popular games that are supposedly "Only on X-Box"...
They produce PC versions.
More often than not? BETTER than the X-Box releases.
Halo. Riddick: Butcher Bay. I'm sure Halo 2 will make a PC debut sooner or later.
They always say that the X-Box is the better choice as they have better graphics compared to the PS2. Ehh...I'll always think of it as Microsoft trying to get a cut of the console action. Besides...and X-Box owners are free to correct me if I'm wrong...but you need to buy a separate peripheral before you can start playing DVDs on an X-Box, no? Or is it just getting a DVD remote tailored to the X-Box? That's all I opted to do to make watching DVDs on my PS2 more manageable(kinda awkward using a game controller like a DVD remote, no?).
Either way, I'm quite happy with my backwards-compatible, DVD-playing, digital output-enabled Playstation 2, and since I discovered that the PS3 will ALSO be backwards-compatible? I'll swap the PS2 for the third iteration.
Assuming the price doesn't cut into my precious budget demands, of course...
Only thing I regret about not having that GameCube thingie is not having the SW Rogue Squadron games and Resident Evil 0...and the Metroid sequel, too.
Oh well...
- Johnny
(PS: I was a 2600 gamer, too...and ya know what? You could get half the whole darn library by picking up a copy of a software title called "Atari: 80 Classic games in one". They even have a bizarre-looking 2600 version of an arcade translation that never made it to retail: TEMPEST!)

I was watching someone play "Call to duty" on 360.
HOLY SHEEET! It was amazing.
I want one. Is it true you can't play regular X-box games on it?

I have no plans to get an X-box 360. I have old X-Box and usually wind up getting a game for PS2 before X-Box.
I did pick up PSP the other day. I bought Lord of the Rings Tactics for it.

The core XBox 360 will not be backwards compatible. For the extra $100 dollars you also get a 20GB removable hard drive, a subscription to Xbox Live, wireless controllers and I believe the DVD remote but I could be mistaken because I can't remember everything anymore. If you have the extra $100, it's worth it to spend, otherwise don't bother even getting the 360.
As for Johnny's question: The XBox and PS2 both need remote controls for the DVD player to work. That's all. The PS2 has the problem of needing memory cards while the Xbox has that nice hard drive built in, so actually it's the PS2 that requires more peripherals
Uhm oh yeah BEST BUY SUCKS don't shop there thank you I have said my piece.
