Actually its just me going there, sorry if I scared you.
Anyways, I'm going to take a trip to New York in July, and will be there for ten days.
So what I'm asking you is: Where is all the really good places to go?
I'm talking about little stores, great restaurants, wierd homeless huy screaming nonsense etc.
Oh, and if its possible, do any you thinks its possible I could crash a FFNY meeting?

Hi Mulacki
Sorry for the delay in responding to you. We would be happy to see you during your visit to the Big Apple. Usualy our meetings are held middle of the month, so if you are in NYC around that time feel free to stop by.

Welcome to the NYCFF board We usually repsond fast, but there was a convention this weekend, so a lot of us weren't around.
Looking for good food? Chinatown is a great place, eat where the locals eat, and you know its good food Gray's Papaya for that NYC Dirty Water Dog John's Pizzaria or Lombardi's Pizzaria have some of NYC's BEST pizza. Big Nick's on the Upper West Side (Broadway and 77th st) has over 30 types of hamburgers, and a 20+ page menu of everything else (GREAT food - something for everyone) - try the Cranberry Iced Tea
Shops, looking for general shopping, boutique, collectibles? SOHO is a great place to shop in little boutiques, 5th ave is great for higher end shopping (Saks 5th Ave, Cartier, Tiffany's, etc). You can get collectibles at Midtown Comics
When in July will you be here?

Greetings Darth Mulacki!
I second the above, esp. the Big Nick's part, and add: for real amazing good Brooklyn Italian food: 'Noodle Pudding', in Brooklyn Heights, just off the 2 or 3 subway line.
Weird homeless guy screaming nonsense: this is about every other block. Or, just ride the 7 train (subway line) long enough . . .

This is why I kept my mouth shut...everyone has a better idea of where to go than I do. Hope you have a great trip man and maybe we can all hook up for a beer or something while you're here.

Could be fun.
Cool part is that I turn 21 on july 13, so I will be able to both gamble and drink.

Okay, so I'm six weeks from landing at JFK, really looking foreward to it.
A friend asked me if there was places that I should stay the hell away from?
Well, is there?

coming from someone in Long Island. Harlem has actually enjoyed a renaissance as of late. Even former Pres. Bill Clinton has his offices there

Times Square; it's tourist-trap central.
Well, okay, have a look around it. But don't be persuaded to eat or shop there!
And some good advice: on the sidewalks, stairs, and platforms: keep moving. If you need to stop and take in the sights or check your map or whatever, step aside!

So that's where I always went wrong!!!!
But then again, you haven't seen Southport on a Saturday afternoon with the gangs of old people and their wicked walking sticks. Dodge, duck, run!

Yes, avoid Times Sq eating and shopping. Looking around is great, and be sure to stop in the Toys R us with the Ferris Wheel
Central park has a lot to offer http://www.centralparknyc.org/ check them out for things happening while you are here.
SOHO has great shopping with Antique stores and small boutiques galore
Food is great around Union Square
Union Square Cafe - My FAVORITE restaurant in the city.
Heartland Brewery - The beer sampler is quite good.
Blue Water Grill - Great seafood
Chat 'n' Chew - Great Americana food like fried chicken and mac-n-cheese
Other places you can eat in the city that are great...
Grey's Papaya (and ONLY Grey's)
Big Nicks Pizza and Burger Joint on Broadway (not the one on Columbus) - about 30 different Hamburgers to choose from as well as ANYTHING else you may want to eat, 23 hour breakfast too
Katz's Deli Downtown - the place to go for good Jewish pastrami and corned beef. They slice it right in front of you and offer a peice as they make your sandwich.
Always be sure to try a Beard Papa's (many locations) - delicious fresh cream puffs
Joe's Pizza (as seen in Spider Man 1) for a Slice and John's Pizza (on Bleecker) for a pie of the BEST NYC pizza.
Pho Viet Huong in China Town for great Vietnamese Food
Big Wong for cheap and delicious chinese food (China Town)
China Town Ice Cream Factory - THE best ice cream in the world! I HIGHLY recommend the Black Sesame flavor
While in China Town be sure to stop by Ten Ren Tea and Company for a Taro Bubble Tea YUM!
If you feel up to trekking out of Manhattan, try the Original Nathan's Hotdog in Coney Island and ride the Cyclone while you are there Also, be sure to stroll the boardwalk.
Brooklyn also has Junior's Cheesecakes, Waterfront Ale House, and Peter Luger Steakhouse.
I could go on and on, but this list should keep you pretty busy while here If you need to find anything else in NYC, be sure to visit http://newyork.citysearch.com for all your searching needs
