To celebrate my cousin's birthday, we went to a restaurant in Hyderabad that's themed around old-style trains. Some of the seating is in a getup that makes you feel as though you're sitting in a train car. The waiters wear old-fashioned traditional clothes, and some of them are dressed like ticket-takers. Very cool atmosphere.
So, first one of my cousins is eating his soup, and there's something weird in it. Immediately I say, "Snake surprise!" After all, we're in an Indian restaurant, and I'm a geek. No one gets the joke, and I have to explain it. (The soup is not technically "snake surprise," but no one was wearing a hat, so I couldn't use the actual eyeballs-in-soup punchline.)
Then another cousin points out that one of the waiters in the train car seating area is dressed like a ticket-taker. Of course I immediately say, "No ticket" and start laughing like a moron. No one gets it.
My cousin and I also spent a couple days in Dubai, which is seriously Coruscant on Earth when you check out the architecture. I had no one to tell. We went sand bashing - the technical term for taking a safari ride over the sand dunes - and when we stopped for pictures around sunset, I wanted to joke about how we needed another sun.
We went to a festival place called Global Village, where people from a bunch of countries set up pavilions to sell their wares. One of the Moroccan musicians was wearing a jawa cloak, complete with pointed hood.
There are metal structures all over the desert - I guess they're for oil? - and I wanted to point out all the moisture vaporators to everyone.
Finally, at a wildlife park in Sharjah, in the reptile section, a cobra hooded at me when I put my face close to the glass. Total Raiders moment.
Where the hell were you people?!?!

Lol!
Anu - http://forums.starwars.com/thread.jspa?messageID=15302428
Still waiting for a Bollywood version of Star Wars. Hmm, what name could it have? "Dil Se Re" means "from the heart" so maybe "Prana Se Re"? (think that is right - "from the Force").
Can just imagine Han, Leia and Luke singing and dancing ... wait ... wait ... they already did in the Holiday Special.
[Vader]NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo![/Vader]
But just for fun, Turkish Star Wars and for your viewing pleasure ... "Chewie" gets whooped and Rocks can't fight back, so hit em hard sonny! (otherwise known as "Mummy and Daddy aren't talking at the mo" lol). Now surely Bollywood can do something a million times better than this ... forget Walking carpets, Chewie doing bhangra!

Well, Anu...I get the jokes!
Heck, Indiana Jones references and Indian food...count me it!
Dubai is a big holiday destination for Brits...in fact, my Grandparents stopped there on the way out to Australia to see my Uncle. You REALLY want to see some transformation...look at Dubai about 10-15 years ago...it looks absolutley nothing like it does to today. Compare New York 400 years ago to today, and you'll get what I'm on about.
And as you may well know, there are a lot of Indians living in England...in fact, there is a big hoopla about the Indian population and "Celebrity" Big Brother at the moment -- it even caused riots in India last week!

OMG, Anu, you're hilarious. I was recently in Guatemala, specifically at the Tikal site, where Yavin 4 was filmed. Seeing the site involves hiking through miles of muddy jungle paths, and climbing lots of very steep steps to top a number of pyramids! So we were climbing Temple VI, I think, which is 68 meters tall, and half-way up, I started commenting to the group I was traveling with that day:
"We seem to be made to suffer," I said.
No reaction, so I quickly added a line to help everyone place the quote:
"It's our lot in life."
No reaction.
"I've got to rest before I fall apart," I continued.
No reaction.
"My joints are almost frozen!"
No reaction.
What a desolate place this is, I thought, and I let it go there. No one understood.
