I like the ring of that...
"Friends don't let friends use Internet Exploder"
Also, I think he meant to say that they are trying to create a plug-in standard. Meaning any plug-in would work with any browser.
I acutally have heard nothing about that, but that's what I think he was trying to say.

I switched from Mozilla to Firefox this weekend.
Main reason why is when I upgraded to the latest version the first thing I was presented with was an option to copy over all my Mozilla settings, including cookies, bookmarks, history and saved passwords.
Made switching over very easy.
Only thing I had to reset was my initial "homepage" of 6 sites, but that was minor.
After that I added a few extensions and changed the default theme and I was running with a browser that was as familiar as my old set-up.
Differences I like so far?
The extensions manager is much nicer now. Very easy to add and remove extensions. That was a bit flaky under Mozilla.
I can use my side mouse buttons again! Under IE under Windows my MS Intellimouse mapped the two buttons on the side of the mouse under my thumb to the forward and back buttons on the browser.
Linux mouse support doesn't default to recognizing those buttons right off, but you can tweak a setting. Thing is most applications, including Mozilla, didn't look for the possibility. Well Firefox does and its great to have it back. All of you with Windows or a different mouse won't care, but for me its a nice touch.
EDIT: Just discovered it works under Mozilla now as well. Must have added it fairly recently, perhaps with the latest version.
The rendering engine is the same from Mozilla to Firefox, so websites look the same. Whats different is Mozilla is a suite, like Netscape and IE. You get a browser and a mail program and a newsreader etc. Firefox is just the browser, which is what 90% of the people want anyways, and therefore its a way smaller file to download and run.
Oh and if you do try Firefox get the AdBlock extension. With a few tweaks I've blocked all the ads from the sites I vist the most often, including here at TheForce.net. Its way nicer looking without the distractions.

RE: What is your Internet Browser?
I use IE because that's what we support at work, and when I'm doing tech support from memory, I don't want to get confused with another browser.
However, I don't like IE. If I could, I'd still be using Netscape 4.7, I liked it better, and if I wasn't worried about forgetting how IE is setup, I'd use Opera instead. I liked Opera, and I used it until I formatted my computer last time (2 1/2 years ago)
Personally, i've had very little trouble with IE, though from doing tech support, I know what can happen when IE does have problems. I just don't know what browser would be the one to switch to at this time.

I used to use IE... until I got a really nasty piece of malware. I could't remove it with anything- and I mean
anything
- so I had to switch. I now use Firefox.

However, there's a plugin on the FireFox website for "View this page in IE". It's ver useful, as there are some things that FF can't do.
So many FF abbreviations... FanForce, FanFilm, FireFox... madness...

RE: What is your Internet Browser?
I've been using Firefox for a few months now (was using the Mozilla suite) and I find it works very well. I like the popup blockers and the easy-to-install ad blocker which keeps those silly flash ads at the top of these forum pages from driving me insane. From a web development side, overall I like Firefox over IE but there are a couple of things where it doesn't render things quite correctly - so it ain't perfect.
I've used Opera on a very limited basis, but it looks pretty good too. I don't know too much about its features, but it sure has a small memory foot print. I don't like the nagging ad banner though.
Dalponis
, I don't blame your users from being annoyed by your popup. Pages that go out of their way to annoy users aren't very user friendly, and should be avoided.
