Non-Star Wars - Role Playing Forum (NSW-RPF): RPF Policy, Rules, Reforms, Announcements
Please note that the nature and content of these rules is a collaboration and revised version, both of previous policies that were in place at the creation of the RPF, and those that have been added as amendments or modifications for various reasons since that time. Due credit should be given to DarthAttorney for original policies that were set as the foundation for the RPF, and Protege-of-Thrawn for building upon that solid foundation. Likewise, I would like to recognise the efforts of NaboosPrincess, who has lived up to the high standard that has been set by her predecessors; her contributions have been equally valuable in fostering a prospering and just community.
Growth within the RPF, in the number of active Role Playing Games (RPGs), increasingly common flows of membership, and the types of games that are visibly open for all to create and enjoy, has led to the design of a second such community. Where the original RPF was designed to specifically accommodate Star Wars RPGs, a position which has since changed, the new RPF will be tailored to meet the increasing demand for non-Star Wars RPGs, whether they be based on Science Fiction, Fantasy, History, Adventure, Comedy, or something else entirely. The original RPF will remain as it is: A Star Wars Role Playing Forum.
Established Worlds, Realms or genrés
It is worth noting that any pre-established or published material, whether film, literary or otherwise, is not treated as canon* unless explicitly stated as such in the opening thread of an RPG, or in a subsequent post by the author/creator/Game Master (GM). Canon vs. Non-canon debates will not be tolerated. It is the GM's preference as to where their particular game falls, and the players' decision as to whether or not they are willing to accept the GM's preference, as shown by their desire to join or avoid any given RPG.
*Canon material or concepts refer to the position or belief or support in what is widely accepted, what is known to be authentic or otherwise established, as a set standard. For example, Luke Skywalker destroying the Death Star in the film Star Wars: A New Hope is canon because it is established as an event of that film. A non-canon example would be Luke Skywalker being destroyed by the same Death Star. We generally accept the former as canon because that is what has been established, whereas the latter example is more accurately referred to as an alternative reality or universe.
Official Rules for Role-Playing
These are the modified rules originally submitted by DarthAttorney at the dawn of this forum, updated by Protege-of-Thrawn, and since revised by NaboosPrincess and LightSide_Apprentice, for the new forum. Credit for creating the foundations from which we continue to build and expand is granted to our predecessors.
1) Terms of Service
All normal rules of the Jedi Council (JC) Forums apply: no flaming, no trolling, no spamming, no spoilers, no inappropriate sexual content etc, including, but not limited to hetero/homosexual allusions, innuendo or explicit scenes. Any occurrences of such behaviour (in or out of character) will be dealt with by a Moderator or Manager. For any questions regarding JC rules, refer to the JC Forums Rules of Conduct and Terms of Service. And, if issues are still not resolved, users are advised to send a PM to the forum moderator, Imperial_Hammer, or any other available Moderator for clarification.
For a more elaborate listing of JC Rules please refer to the Rules & Announcements Forum.
2) Language and Profanity
The general rule here is to take heed of the Language & Profanity Rules in this regard, which can be found within the Rules & Announcements Forum (see above link). When in doubt, ask a Moderator. Where no Moderator is available, refrain from posting until a Moderator is available. Exercise common sense, courtesy and caution and you'll rarely, if ever, go wrong.
3) Game Masters (GMs)
All thread authors are considered to be the initial Games Masters (GMs) of their scenarios. They should make an effort to include, at a minimum, a story, rules, and character sheet in the first post or first few posts of the thread. They usually set the scene, guide players during its course and make decisions as to the outcome of the game. These authors may relinquish their right to the thread and game therein if they appoint another person to act as the GM of their RPG/thread, or if the initial GM is away for an extended period at which time a new GM is appointed by group consensus and sanctioned by the Forum Moderator(s).
Users are advised to try and make any relevant material for users who wish to play, freely and legally available, as it should not be a pre-requisite to have such knowledge to play any given game.
4) Moderators as Players
Moderators are cautioned that if they wish to participate in an RPG, they do so as a normal user and are not to overstep their jurisdiction, nor use their powers and/or privilege to cheat, modify the RPG, or unfairly disclose the identity of anonymous users under an alias, sock etc.
5) Authorisation
All Role Playing in keeping with the Non-Star Wars Universe is freely allowed, and games may be created and posted within this forum at the discretion of the author. No authorisation is required. Any Star Wars cross-overs, however, will require Moderator approval.
Please note that games are limited to one thread, per author, per forum. This is a concrete rule and is not negotiable. This rule is made to try and discourage flooding of the forums, and to allow for the whole community to be involved in RPG creation and play. Hopefully people will realise the responsibility inherent in starting a game and we will see fewer games started and dumped by GMs. The 'punishment' for starting a second game will start with a warning, followed by a twenty-four hour ban, which may double for every infraction after that. If you wish to end your current thread and open a new one, PM the RPF moderator, Imperial_Hammer, to lock your current thread.
6) Redundancy
Only one RPG per franchise (Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, etc.) is allowed at a time. Any issues or questions in this regard can be directed to the forum Moderator(s). Be aware that our intention is to prevent redundancy and promote creativity, not to limit your imaginations or to prevent fair chance for all members, regardless of registration dates and/or skill and experience.
Similarly, only two RPGs per genré will be accepted. That is, two broadly Fantasy-based games, two Historical based games, etc. Again, please seek the Moderator(s) with any issues you might have.
7) Socks and Aliases
Players are allowed to register socks with which to Role-Play with, but, in keeping with the JC's Sock Policy, only three socks are allowed per user. All information about a sock character should be as clear and visible as would be reasonable for any other, normal character.
Do not use a sock to create a second game where you are the creator of another game that is presently active. Failure to recognise this requirement will likely involve a warning, and may be followed with disciplinary action.
8) Canon Characters
Players are not limited by canon, only their imagination. In the interests of fairness, pre-existing characters may be used, but players are encouraged to use one character class or type per scenario. (eg: A gamer who uses Hercules might refrain from using Xena, and a person using King Arthur might not use someone like Aragorn, just as a player that uses Merlin might want to hesitate before adopting Belgarath or Gandalf.) This rule is meant to ensure all users are given a chance to Role Play as their favourite "core characters" and no select group manages to create a monopoly on gameplay here, thus stifling growth and overall creativity and enjoyment.
9) Defence Forces and Fan Clubs
Defence Forces and Fan Clubs which involve Role Playing in their activities are welcome, but are warned that simple banter and organisation alone is not enough to sustain a thread. All threads MUST incorporate a large degree of Role Play. Needless to say, such groups will be carefully monitored.
10) Multi-thread Games and Projects
Each RPG is allowed one thread for the purpose of gameplay. Additional threads are awarded only by Moderator authorisation, on the basis of need in the cases of high traffic RPGs. If you believe your RPG has achieved such a criteria, PM the RPF moderator(s) to discuss your wishes.

Please Note: The above Rules are Forum specific, and will all be moderated in the RPF as would the normal TOS elsewhere. Infringements will be treated as any other infringement, and may lead to banning if not adhered to.
Also, the above rules are all subject to modification or expansion without notice, so be sure to keep an eye out for updates. If there is any drama, please feel free to PM either one of us. Keep a watch on this thread for updates, as changes and modifications to the rules will be posted here and/or edited into this first post where applicable.
Regards,
Imperial_Hammer (RPF Moderator)
Please do not post within this thread needlessly, as it is intended primarily for announcements, particularly with regards to rules and policy. Should you feel the need to discuss anything you see here, feel free to send a PM to the respective party, or to bring any topics for discussion to an open forum, such as one of our community threads.
