Shifter - Outside Citadel Lounge

Shifter quickly changed his density to something much more lighter, even as he made good his escape. He could hear the shocked sounds, even as he shot out of the lounge, and ran for life. If she did manage to catch up with him, he would switch it once again, for he would need it, dealing with the green tirade. But it was worth every second of it. The look on ole Greenie's face, when he locked lips with her, would be something he would NEVER forget. And neither would anyone ELSE, he wagered as well. his name would be remember, if nothing else, for daring to do what nobody else had done. And he even won the contest to boot. He could still feel her lips on his, he mused to himself, as he ran like a man possessed. He saw someone else while he ran, but he was too far away to identify the person. Didnt matter anyway, he was not about to stop for idle chit-chat, with an angry powerhouse behind him.

He heard her roar, "OUT OF MY WAY!!" far behind him. Even at this distance however, he could feel the ground shake. He vaguely wondered what she did. He laughed to himself. Soon he began to slow down, and then stop. There were no longer any angry roars. No hotly thundering footsteps seemed to be following him. Odd, but none the less, true. He stood, listening. Nope, nothing behind him. He gave a wide grin then. He bet there was steam coming outta her ears. But, if nothing else, he had gained a rep.

He stood slumped over slightly, puffing his chest. 'Course, he was gonna have to watch his back for awhile. He wanted to head back to the lounge to gloat but even Shifter wasnt THAT insane. Shifter rubbed his finger to his lips, as he stood in thought. Going to his room, was out of the immediate question. So, what to do? Normally, he would go throw some weights around, but Greenie might be there.

What else did this place have?, he wondered. He decided he would take a walk to check the place out, and stay out of sight for about an hour or so. Then, he would walk back into the lounge, and scope out what was being said. A drink wouldnt hurt neither. Shifter wandered around, staying outta sight of his greenie goddess, while he checked out the new digs. Then, it would be time to hoist up a few beers, and enjoy his new fame. WIth that thought, he stood tall, straightening his shoulders, and began to walk carefully throught his new digs.

.........
Lazer and NightFall
Infirmary, Xavier Mansion

In the far corner of the room, the darkness pulsed vehemently. It was so dark that it almost made itself 'visible' in contrast to its surroundings. Not only that, the whispers had grown more agitated by the moment. The darkness pulsed again with greater intensity and it seemed to grow and swell. It's vastness seemed to rear itself past the heights of the very room that housed it. Dark power emmanated from it, just as it was poised to strike at the recently awoken Mental. But Mental had other plans, as he suddenly, made a rather bravo and bold statement, before suddenly zipping out of the room. NightFall saw it all as he had entered through the folds of darkness within the room. His mood was beyond deadly, as he realized the other dark that filled the void of the room. The one that dared call into being his own deadly hunger. But he had something that the other was unprepared for. Something, that for reasons unknown even to him, saved him from the the unfantable void, that would destroy most beings, leaving nothing but the darkness.

Lazer drew herself up tightly, as NightFall's cloak wrapped around her even tighter than before, but still being careful to not injure her. NightFall was being uncustomarily silent, and she could feel the hunger that coursed throught him. What caused her more worry, was that she felt the darkness from within the new area they had just entered. She could sense their position within the mansion, and the many injuries around them.

Suddenly, NightFall spoke, his voice harsh and deep. She could tell that he was stuggling even as he unfolded within the room.

"Burn him, NOW!" he commanded silently towards Lazer, even as his cloak suddenly whiped open to reveal her brilliance. Lazer, already burining brightly to counter the effects from NightFall's strange behavor, quickly took the meaning of the situation, for as soon as he had opened his cloak she felt the heavyness of the darkness around them. Lazer went supernova, as she called forth every bit of brightness that she could muster and then some as she emerged from his cloak. Pure light energy streamed from her, even as she sent her lightdaggers flying in all directions. They would not harm NightFall. In fact, he thrived on them. But she was sure that the feeling would NOT be mutual to the other being, whos very evil nature she felt fill the room. She called on the very healing nature of her being, and of good in general, to help her defeat the thing within the room. Behind her, NightFall grinned, as the cloak around him exploded outwards hungrilly.

Time to feed.

[Karra
Corridor, Restricted Area, Infirmary, Xavier Mansion

Karra was busy as scanning the area, looking for a next target. Iori seemed to be handling things with the folks near him. She scanned the area with her other sight. She had seen the other, talking to what looked like nobody. And for a moment, she thought she saw something. So she flew overhead, looking for the next hotspot to cool down. She was going to stop whatever it was, that had made the students go crazy, before someone got seriously injured. There was somthing here, she had not noticed eariler, and now she was using her other vision to track it down, even as she hovered slightly.

She moved suddenly, to keep from becoming a sitting target, as she looked over the area. Professor N'dare was probably nearby, and...

Before she could finish her train of thought, the doors to a room suddenly shot open. An sensation alien to her, made her train her attention there, as the person she had learned was called Mental came flying out of the room, shooting past the doors. As he did, he called out.

"Close the Doors!"

Karra gave a second to think about it, before she acted, slamming the doors shut with her powers. It might be the wrong action, but she didnt think so. The way Mental said it...made her think otherwise. And she could close them much faster than N'dare. So she did, hoping that whatever made him run out so fast, stayed behind those doors.

Once that was done, she kept watch for other 'intruders' in the area, even as she signaled to John in the infirmary, that she had taken care of Frostbite. "Karra, get the other students out of here." N'dare told her, and with that, she began using her powers to move the unconscious and non-combatant students out of harms way.

Professor N'dare
Xavier Mansion, Restricted Wards, Hallway outside Mental's Room

Professor N'dare remained undetected by vertue of technology, but he was very well aware of the goings on around the Mansion. It was under his command that the doors to Mental's Room was opened, and now, though the room was still dark, N'dare's instruments indicated that something strange was going on inside that room. Actually, he could almost feel it.

His monitors showed something strange. In the far corner of the room, the darkness pulsed vehemently. It was so dark that it almost made itself 'visible' in contrast to its surroundings. Not only that, the whispers had grown more agitated by the moment. The high pitched sound that permeated the corridors grew in intensity and the darkness seemed to wince, but only for a moment.

N'dare could hear the 'shadow' that was in the room, speak to Mental. Mental was quick to respond to the thing.

"My name isn't Nathan. My name is Mental, and you will bow to me and my awsome power!" He said, lifting himself off the floor and cackling with rage. Before N'dare could worry about a fight, Mental came flying out of the room, as if the devil himself was behind him. He shouted as he shot past, "Close the Doors!" As N'dare ordered the doors closed, they were slammed shut, with the help of Karra. Quickly, N'dare grinned, as he quickly locked the doors.

In case the doors didnt stop the darkness inside, they needed to get the unconscious and injured students out of the hallway.

"Karra, get the other students out of here." N'dare told her, even as he began to pull out another weapon, just in case. He checked his monitors. The darkness pulsed again with greater intensity and it seemed to grow and swell. Something was going on, and he needed the get the students out of the area, even as his fingers glided across his keypad. Suddenly, his monitors were blinded, and even he had to avert his eyes as he wondered what had happened.

Aurora and Blink
Xavier Mansion, Infirmary

Whatever was going on within the mansion, Auroa and Blink coudlnt be bothered with. Inside the Infirmary however, it was controlled chaos, but barely. John had managed to get Sam under control, and she was busy sobbing in his arms. Blink, was dealing with a very Irate Ogre, who had grabbed Wei Chen, and was demanding for Professor N'dare. Blink was not in the mood for this at all. Aurora was keeping the other patients back, out of harms way, even as she figure on a way to get to Wei, but she would wait for Blink to act first. Just as Aurora had touched an silent alarm, Thera had stepped out, demanding to know what was going on.

Meanwhile, they were also getting notified of possibly more injured students heading their way. They really had no time to deal with one of Ogre's tyraides at the moment. And there, there were still the other students to worry about.

Something needed to happen, and happen soon!

Thera glared at Ogre. He was the one causing this disruption? She mentally grasped Ogre's throat and a voice from deep within her growled, "With a thought I could easily destroy you. I suggest you let him down immediately if you don't want your extremities flying off in different directions." As she spoke, she mentally reached out to Wei Chen, promising he would be all right. But his aura was not the only one in distress. She felt out, beyond the doors to the rest of the infirmary. There were much more pressing matters at hand. Namely, one named Mental. This needed to stop. She squeezed a little tighter.

Infirmary -- Resticted Ward

Mental back flipped into a possition about 6 feet from the doors that had been forced shut. He was already figuering the beast out...they could fight it, but he didn't know if they could win. But, they had to try. He kept his senses concentrated on the beast in the room, not worring about what was happening around him, or in the nearby woods.

"N'dare," he said, knowing the man could hear him "It feeds on the Darkness, I need someone who can create or manipulate light. Any sorce of light the beast won't be able to extiguish."

He could feel another mind touch his, feel him, his life force. H ehad focused his powers on the task at hand, and saving his strength should the beast escape, and had done nothing to hide his presence from the others in the school. N'dare had made a had decision opening those doors, but Mental had made a promise. If N'dare hadn't opened those doors, he would have been dead now for sure. He wondered for the slightest moment if Exodous or his goons would have opened the doors...he doubted it. Anyone who would employ such a monstrosity cared little for the lives of others.

he projected a feeling of peace towards the person feeling out for him, her life-signature, her specific feeling, or finger print in the life force telling him it was none other than the one called Thera, a powerful being in herself. He hoped she would understand the feelings of peace, and understand he was with her in this battle, not against her. He had done things to these people that could never be forgiven, yet they still kept him alive, nursed him back to health, the brotherhood wouldn't have done such. They would have finished him off. They still might.

He strengthened his resolve. He WOULD destroy this beast.

walked gracefully, yet powerfully, into the portal room. Her shoes made satisfying clicks as she went and her dress flowed behind her. She stood behind the two women and watched them go through the portal. She stepped towards it and went to go through before hesitating.

She looked backwards and waited a second, hoping to see Kinetic stride through the door. He did not and so she sighed and passed through the portal, what ever Lilith had planned it should be fun.

NightFall, Lazer, N'dare, Mental, Shadow King

Xavier Mansion, Restricted Wards

The Shadow was about to teach young Mental the error of his ways, when several things seemed to happen simultaneously. First, Mental shot out of his ward like a rocket, and the doors closed immediately behind him. The Shadow had heard him call out for help, but was genuinly surprised that anyone would actually help the little betrayer, since he was personally convinced that no one would. What strange folks these humanoids were, still proving to be somewhat unpredictable.

It was almost a slap in the face.

At that same moment, another far more feral and predatory presence revealed itself. It's fury was, by his standard, commendable and worthy of clinical admiration. That's how he was able to appreciate the measure of trouble he was in.

"Burn him, NOW!" the darkness howled.

The Shadow had no way of knowing what the darkness had meant, for fire could not hurt it. There was nothing to prepare him for what came next, no hint to help him mount a suitable defense, especially since the main attack came from darkness itself, something he was certainly proof against.

Quite suddenly and without warning, it was if the sun itself had appeared before the Shadow. The Light was overwhelmingly bright.....and lethal, more lethal than he initially imagined.

NightFall's cloak suddenly whiped open to reveal unguessed brilliance, her brilliance. Lazer, already burining brightly to counter the effects from NightFall's strange behavior, quickly took the meaning of the situation, for as soon as he had opened his cloak she felt the heavyness of the darkness around them. Lazer went supernova, as she called forth every bit of brightness that she could muster and then some as she emerged from his cloak. Pure light energy streamed from her, even as she sent her lightdaggers flying in all directions. They would not harm NightFall. In fact, he thrived on them. But she was sure that the feeling would NOT be mutual to the other being, whose very evil nature she felt fill the room. She called on the very healing nature of her being, and of good in general, to help her defeat the thing within the room. Behind her, NightFall grinned, as the cloak around him exploded outwards hungrilly.

The dark voices shrieked in horror, as they tried to scurry frantically, yet futily to the any shadowed corner of the room. But there was none to be found. Lazer's light flooded everything in sight.

"NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!" Screamed the Shadow in agony and defiance as shafts of pure brilliance tore into its very being and Lazer's light daggers found their way into the shadowy creature's defenses, nearly obliterating them. To compound things, Professor X had coordinated his 'assault' with Lazer's, even as he bathed the entire Mansion with Lera's heartfelt memories. Whatever evil resonnances were unleashed as a result, they would be countered by this psychic weapon, even as N'dare's devices greatly reduced the creature's overall influence over the more susceptible students.

There seemed to be no escape in the face of total obliteration, but the Shadow King had not survived for this long without cunning. Even in the midst of unimaginable agony, it could feel the hunger of the darkness, the one that sought to devour it. Even the little mutant called Mental sought to deliver a measure of his own ill-will, now that it was vulnerable. Even so, they might have won the battle, but the WAR was far from over.

With one last horrifying scream, the Shadow King exploded, sending pieces of vile darkness everywhich way, buckling the doors outward with the force of the explosion and creating cracks along the walls. Let the light and the dark devourer fight over scraps of himself. As for his survival; The Shadow King smiled bitterly for one last time. All the ageless and bitter voices had grown silent as they were vanquished by the light, but this was the world of rebellious creatures, and there would always be a limitless amount of nests from where a seed could grow.

The outer perimeter of the Xavier's Mansion was surrounded by such beings where he could deposit his seed safely. For none of the mutants present would seek to harm the ones surrounding them, for doing so would be akin to declaring war against their own goverment. A fitting end, were they to grow so bold and foolish.

Losing even it's bitterness as it devolved from conciouss entity into simple impulse, the defeated Shadow was no more. All that remained was remnants of its dark power, which suffered rapid deconstruction in the face of dagger's light. It had not been ready for such an assault, and that had cost him greatly.

Of course, it was foolish to think that the defeat of such powerful a being would not go unnoticed.

Sage (Armoured Amaterasu ), Malice, Wolf, Bad Boy, Eagle's Breath, The Magician, Rain, Bo Black (Black Jack), DejaVu, Xion, Angelfire & Wraith, Curtis carter, Mathew Morsa, DVC

Xavier Mansion, Front Entrance

With the defeat of the Shadow King, some encounters throughout the mansion took on drastic changes.

Wolf landed all of his blows solidly and effectively, which explained why Bo was now laying unconcious at his feet. The stalwart youth would awaken later at the infirmary in pain, but alive. One could wonder if as a precognitive, Bo had seen himself in the prone position.

As it was, Wolf could tell that something had changed. The intensity that seemmed to prevade those students opposing them seemed to wane suddenly.

Robert frowned in confusion as Xion suddenly doubled over and held his head as if in great pain. The young mutant did grimace.

"What's wrong?" Robert called out, after sensing an odd change in energy surrounding them. Xion fell to his knees, then slowly slumped to the ground. After a moment, the youth turned over and Robert saw a strange smile on his face. As far as he could tell, Xion seemed to have fallen asleep on his own.

Likewise, Eagle's Breath was experiencing a not too disimilar situation.

AngelFire felt the incoming blade spinning towards him as it travelled through the air and sought the back of his head. With a quick motion of his leathery wing, he deflected it from it's course and into the underbrush below. The Winged mutant looked confused as he frowned. Slowly, he descended until he touched down. He did not put away his blade, but it's brilliance did diminish considerably. After shaking his head for a moment, AngelFire set his gaze upon Eagle's Breath.

He had a questioning look on his face.

"Who's Lera?" he asked, clearly perplexed.

Not too far away, Rain could not stop apologizing to Bad Boy after trying to drown him. Bad Boy responded in classical Bad Boy form.

"Would you shut up already, can't you see I'm trying to freaking heal?" *cough, cough*

Of course, his coughing only prompted Rain to apologize some more.

In short, almost all combat had come to a halt.

Wraith and Malice were the only two now facing each other, and Sage was right there, incase she needed to intervene against either of them.

Malice spoke, her words brimming with comfidence. "Wraith, I know I don't belong, but you don't either... Who is your puppetmaster? You see, I don't negotiate with peons... Show me who is pulling the stirngs of all these weaklings, and I will speak with them directly. You see, I like to know what I'm getting myself into first..."

Wraith gave the white haired female an appraising gaze...at first. The knowing look on the mutant's face quickly turned into a frown, then into confusion, then into anger. Wraith made a fist, then uttered the words; "Get....OUT!!"

His aura flared once, then died down to it's normal intensity. Wraith shoulders seemed to relax as his composure returned. Once again, he levelled his gaze upon Malice, but the this time the gaze was neutral.

"There....is....no puppetmaster." He declared simply.

"Not anymore..." Wraith added for good measure.

Ironically enough and despite all that was happening, life at the academy went on. More specifically, the arrival of newcomers was a continuous event at the Xavier Academy.

After witnessing the unfolding debacle on the front lawn and being told to stay clear of it by Jocasta, Curtis Carter found his way inside the Mansion, but he did not make it far before a security force field detained him.

["No unauthorized personnel beyond this point."] A now familiar synth-voice said to him, apparently from thin air. ["Please wait here for an administrator."] The voice was pleasant, but firm. Out of the corner of his eye, Curtis could see that the foyer had a comfortable sitting area, complete with all manner of interactive media.

Down at the Mansion's Gates, another mutant made good his arrival. His name, Mathew Morsa.

The young mutant of 14 was dressed in all black, as was customary for him. His parents had sent him here as a last resort for him. Perhaps the last resort was just the beginning of a greater adventure. Only time could tell. Had he seen any of the 'fighting' taking place on the Front Lawn? there was no way to know. As it was, just as soon as Mathew pressed the buzzer, a light appeared near him and to his right. It coalesced to form a female figure completely covered in shining silver.

["Greetings, and welcome to the Xavier Institute of Higher Learning. I am Jocasta, the Institute's interactive A.I. How may I assisst you?"]

The voice was pleasant as was the A.I.'s form. How would the newcomer react to the A.I.'s hologram was left to be seen.

Thera, Aurora, Blink, Ogre, Recoil, Surge, Wei Chen, Hawk, Elana & Jocasta

Jocasta didn't even give Ogre a chance to formulate any kind of response, verbal or otherwise. Even before Thera finished her sentence, and while the 'surprise' of her telekinetic action was still registering in Ogre's mind, the silver clad A.I. let loose with several powerful zaps of the neural 'gun' she'd been secretly training on Ogre. It was the least 'lethal' of all the apparatus at her disposal and the best suited to her purposes.

As estimated, Ogre stiffened, then lost conciousness. The muscled mutant reverted back to his original form, even as he fell. Thankfully, there were several med-bots on hand to catch both Greg and Wei Chen. Both mutants needed immediate medical attention, which the med-bots began to provide at once. As for Greg, an inhibitor collar was placed around his neck, for security purposes.

["It is good to see you awake and in good health Thera."] Jocasta said. ["Our teamwork remains as effective as ever."]

Nearby in an adjacent room, Jocasta updated Elana, simply telling her that the crisis at the mansion was being brought under control, although they were still on alert until further notice.

For all intents and purposes, she was still in the safest place within the masion.

Unsurprisingly, more injured were brought to the infirmary. Iori brought in Recoil even as med-bots were dispatched to retrieve unconcious students from where they lay. Even Jayson was brought in so the bots could attend to his burns. It would be little surprise if all the beds became filled this evening.

Certainly such an occurance would be studied in order to avoid it repeating itself in the future.

Lera & Professor X

Lera's Infirmary Room

"That was wonderful Lera, Thank you." Professor X said to the young girl before him. He smiled at her knowingly. "Those are precious memories, thank you for sharing them. They helped a great deal."

"Before I go, should I tell Aurora that you're feeling much better and your vision is returning?"

The professor's pleasant expression never waned, but a hint of tiredness was just becoming visible over his eyes, which was of itself, an unusual sight. Still, there was no deterring Erik Xavier from his present course of action.

Suddenly, Sam remembered Inara. She looked up at John.

"Where's Inara ? Is she in trouble ? Is she alright, is she hurt ? Did I kill her ?"Sam asked in one breath.

John made questioning face. 'kill her'? Now there was an odd choice of words. Why would Sam say something like that, other than for dramatic purposes?

Without answering immediately, John consulted his comm device and asked Jocasta for a quick update. He didn't react to the news he got, but continued reading. There were several situations taking place almost all at once. As it was, Inara was not the only student missing from the Mansion.

After a short moment, John levelled his blue eyes at Sam.

"Let's see. Last thing we know is that Inara took one of my cars without permission and crashed within 5 kilometers from here. We were under attack at the time, so that didn't help maters. Jocasta cannot triangulate her whereabouts at the moment, but perhaps Sage can use Cerebro to find her. Don't worry..." John said, giving Sam a reassuring look.

The blonde man slowly got up, then looked around at the ruined room.

"We need to get you a different Room." He said, almost incredulous. "Can you walk?" he asked now, concern ringing in his voice.

John looked upon his comm device once again and notified the infirmary of his needs.

"Sam, I'm presently needed elsewhere, but I need to know if you're going to be okay." Looking into her eyes, John paused, then regarded the burnt room around them. "This....this was no simple matter. If you have trouble sleeping, we have something for that. We can help you...perhaps we can even find out why this is going on."

John smiled then, as he shared his feelings of hope with Sam.

".....and don't worry your pretty head. We'll find Inara."

Of course, he made no mention of Roxanne, though he was just as determined to find her as well.

Hermes & Professor N'dare

Silent and Vigilant, that is what he was at the moment. Hermes was patched into the Institute's security channels and had eyes and ears all through the Mansion, not to mention Jocasta's incomparable assistance.

Professor N'dare had full access to the same information as well and much more.

Presently, the winged mutant could see that the fighting had died down considerably. On top of that, there were two newcomers to the Mansion. One at the Front Gates and the other inside the foyer. Adding to the mix, a former teammate turned villain was now free inside the infirmary section, although he could not go very far. Professor N'dare's security measures were quite specific as they were formidable, and Mental would not be getting past the force-fields already set in place. Only authorized personnel could affect those, and he cretainly was not that. Besides, any tampering on his part would set-off the various countermeasures which were recently installed.

Furthermore, the crisis within the infirmary was resolved, as Jocasta put down Ogre with a neural zapper. As expected, many students were being brought to the infirmary, either by other students or med-bots. The infighting had been brief, but fierce indeed. Though unpleasant, this had been quite a learning experience.

Last but not least, the situation taking place inside what had been Mental's ward, had come to a bright and abrupt end. Was the menace of the Shadow King truly over? Only time would tell.

Hermes could also see that John had requested a quick head-count, and found that two of the students currently residing at the Mansion were missing. At the moment, the details regarding their disappearance was at best, uncertain...and no doubt a cause for concern.

Incidentally, the 'observants' surrounding the Mansion remained just that for now. Observant. It was almost as if they were waiting for something. Of course, that didn't mean that they had to wait along with them.

As per usual, Hermes did not need to wait long to recieve a response from Jocasta concerning the 'military outfit's' base.

["The Ops Base utilized by the military survaillance unit is a roving or mobile base which is currently in wide use by military special Ops as well as the MCU. Sage initiated a file on them several months ago."] Jocasta informed.

Jocasta grew silent once again, at least on Hermes' end of things.

Events were beginning to ebb, but the night was far from over.

Roxanne Moore "Hourglass"

Chronoverse

Irony of ironies. Roxanne was having quite a time of it. It seemed that there were alot more questions than answers for the time manipulating mutant.

"Are your abilities somehow....failing you?" The woman had asked.

Did she know about Roxanne's ability? Did she know that Roxanne could play with time?

And how could they be failing her! No! Never! Roxanne knew she had control over her powers. Within her mind, she laughed at herself bitterly. Control? She had killed Xavier because of her lack of control! No, she had no control what-so-ever. Nor did she know the extent of her ability. She was a danger to herself, and her friends.

"Is that what you want me to learn from this? That I can't trust myself?" She yelled to the sky. Still... nothing.... The silence was driving her crazy. "WHY DON'T YOU ANSWER ME!!!!"

"Much to learn you still have..." Came the foreboding pronouncement in that booming familiar voice. But before Roxanne could say anythig in response or react in any way, everything around her shimmered suddenly. By now she recognized this effect all too well.

Once the red head blinked her eyes again, she found herself exactly where she stood only moments ago. Within the basketball court. Silence was still her only answer, yet, she had much to think about indeed. This time she could not shake the feeling that something very important depended upon her and that a mistake on her part would have terrible, terrible consequences.

But for now, she was back, safely upon the place she currently called home.

Inara

Unkown location, Spartan Room

Inara rolled her eyes at voice. She would do her best to behave, she decided.

"Am I at the mansion ? And yes, I understand. Where am I exactly ?"she asked, annoyned.

Inara was seriously pissed off, annoyned, and irratated. She wanted out of this place.

Be that as it may, the voice answered her question.

["This can be as a Mansion to you, but as I said, it all depends on you. As for this location, we cannot tell you where it is, but we can tell you what it is called. Welcome to the Gulag. A place you can learn to call home, if you cooperate."]

By now there could be no doubt in Inara's mind that she was no longer at Xavier's and that the person addressing her was not the Professor or any teacher there. Did anyone know where she was? With her powers dampened by the inhibitor collar, could she survive without her powers? Would anyone come for her....or better yet, how long would she last?

Indeed the odds where against her, but if there was ever a time for her to have hope and be brave in the face of adversity, this was it. Of course, the future was always in motion and what happened from moment to moment was hard to predict, but at least Inara had one definite card to play. The question was, could she tell which one it was...

IC: The Blue Vortex

Parr Residence; Los Angeles, California

To an onlooker, the scene surrounding the home of the Parr family would seem surreal. A lone hero floated before a mixed crowd. There was jeering and some cheering, hootin', hollering, gasping, accolades and epithets all being thrown in his direction, nearly all at once. Yet, the hero known as The Blue Vortex remained in place, unmoving.

The police sirens grew louder still and soon their flashing red and blue lights seemed to be everywhere as their police cars came screeching to a halt. Almost like an orchestrated play, some of the crowd dispersed, while most gave the police a wide margin. Still, some of the officers still found the opportunity to issue tickets for disorderly conduct and several other misdemeanors. A small contingent was ordering the crowd back to their homes, although they too could not help but steal glances of a real life super hero. It was a sight one did not see 'live' everyday, not unless you were MCU.

Six of them focused their attention on Blue Vortex. One spoke, while the other five pointed their loaded guns at him.

"Excuse me, what do you think you're doing, sir. Can't you see that your presence is causing a situation here? Cease and decist immediately. Power down, or whatever you call it, get some civilian clothes on you and head back to whatever hole you came from, I won't tell you again, unless you want to be arrested. If you want the MCU, just hang tight, they're on their way."

Some of the other officers chuckled, but the speaker did not. He simply regarded the Blue Vortex with steady unwavering eyes.

A wind picked up just then, heralding the arrival of the news copter, and almost immediately, spotlights were aimed all over the scene. Certainly this was not be the first time the Blue Vortex was captured on TV, nor the most dramatic, if circumstances remained under control.

"Registration is in less than two days..." The Officer said loudly, clearly avoiding the use of the word 'mutant' for some reason.

"Are you listening to me?"

The tension in the air was palpable, there was no doubt about it. As the officer waited for compliance from the Blue Vortex, more sirens could be heard in the distance. These sounded more ominous. The speaking officer did not look back, but instead held Vortex's gaze.

IC: Abominus

Deanville, Texas

Abominus clenched his fists as the man chuckled in mock amusement.

"I bet you'd like nothing more to go out in a blaze of glory, eh? Well, I can't blame you. I'd say it sounds like fun; however... there are other individuals besides the authorities who's notice you've attracted."

The figure stopped once again, and began to light another cigarette. He took a moment, blew out another set of rings, then continued the conversation.

"Question is... what do you want out of all this, assuming you've even stopped to think about any of it, eh? Guts and Glory, or a Piece of the Future?"

The man gave the criminal fugitive another knowing smile before casually taking another drag of the cigarette.

Abominus was silent for a moment, letting his hands slowly sink back into their normal, relaxed positions, his pure white eyes glaring into those of the mysterious man before him.

"Are we done here?"

"Only if I decide NOT to collect on the large bounty on your head....now that you so politely declined our generous offer."

The man in the suit could not help the cheshire grin that came over him. His posture was relaxed, but his facial features bespoke of a deep and subtle darkness not entirely unlike that of Abominus himself. There was no doubt that Abominus recognized the words for what they truly were. Heck, it was raining and no one was around. No witnesses. Perfect.

All that remained was his response.

["Greetings, and welcome to the Xavier Institute of Higher Learning. I am Jocasta, the Institute's interactive A.I. How may I assisst you?"]

Wind Weapon saw the holographic female and nearly spit at it in disgust. He hated computers, mostly because they represtened everything he hated.Computers were technology, something you had to live without abandoned in the streets, but his parents probally had tons of technology where they lived. He pushed those memories aside. shut up wind weapon, just shut up .

Wind Weapon looked the other way from the hologram and said
" Maybe, can you explode into a million peices that I can then burn, tear up into more peices and that can then be used to throw at cars that I don't like, if you can that would be great "

Wind Weapon almost grinned to himself at the coment. He was sure the hologram would disappear, just like he wanted. Then he heard something from the front lawn. He looked that way. He saw a bunch of people looking like they were fighting.

Wind weapon grinned," Finnally something interesting. He immediately walked that direction to get a closer view. He might not be in "The Survivors" now but he still observed they're rules. It was customary for gang members to observe fights, and find out how to turn them to their advantage.

Wind Weapon was sure he'd enjoy this.

IC: Mental
Infirmary

Mental could feel as the darkness surged, then ebbed suddenly. He could feel the attacks on it comming quick and at precise times, to greaten their effect. He had to hand it to Xavier, the man always had a knack for planning and executing he never had. Mental had only beaten him in chess once, and to be fair, he was pretty sure X had let him win.

Mental had always liked more physical games anyway...

He could feel the force fields around him, and doubted N'dare would allow him past them, and didn't want to break the minute ammount of trust between him and the mansion by manipulating the generators. Instead, he reached out to the gurney, which was crush and mangled against the wall of what used to be his room. He forced the doors open again, and pulled the mangled mess from the room, contorting the flimsy metal into the rough shape of a Chair, which he sat upon. Awaiting someone to tell him what was next, and building his strength, for he knew the Military was just beyond the walls, and the night was far from over...

IC: Hermes
Garage

Hermes had made his way to the garage, and was just entering when Jocasta's voice rang again in his ear. Amung the joyous news that the beast in the Infirmary had been defeated, another message came through.

["The Ops Base utilized by the military survaillance unit is a roving or mobile base which is currently in wide use by military special Ops as well as the MCU. Sage initiated a file on them several months ago."]

He had thought so, but it was worth a shot.

"~Thank you Jocasta.~" He mumbled through the throat mic, a simple acknowledgement. He had been hoping that he would have been able to triangulate the base, and then make his move. Not now.

He quickly moved towards one of the many hidden doors that lead down into his quarters, behing sure to shrink the door once he was in. As he entered his room, he immmediatly removed any civilian clothing he wore, and pulled a form fitting jump suit, colored to match is skin, and slipped it on. He had learned, many years ago, that his coloring allowed him to blend in with the dark night sky, and also to hide moderatly in the darkness, somethign he had used on Stealth Operations to great effect. It was a blessing. He traded his chrome helmet for one of the almost-black blue color of his flesh, again, allowing for greater coverage.

He shrunk his gold and chrome staff, placing it on his dresser, and pulling another pen-sized weapon from it, a staff of, again, his own color. The blue devil he had once been called, a name that had once angered him, now seemed rather fitting.

He quickly exited the room, and made his way to the infirmary, just a little distance down the hall, speaking into the mic all the while.

"~N'dare, what's your location? I need a hardware upgrade..." He said with a slight grin. N'dare would understand that meant he needed something high-tech to compliment his powers. Right now, that was an upgraded optics unit. For what he was planning, he would need Night vision, Infra-Red, Magnos, video, the works.

N'dare should have somethign he could through together. In Hermes' eyes, the man was a bonefied MacGuyver.

Mads and Emke Haumann
The train from Mons to Paris

Mads was almost sad to be leaving Belgium. Usually Mads looked forward to the newness to moving; new people, new sounds, new smells. He never stayed anywhere long enough to appreciate the friendship of neighbors or the familiarity of shopkeepers. A strange feeling washed over Mads as he turned in the keys of their former apartment, but he would be lying if he said he wasn’t excited on the train ride to Mons. Though he and Emke were married in Mons, Mads knew very little of the town.

Emke and her father had met him at the train depot, and they took a taxi to his abode. It was difficult to say whether the bakery or the apartment was Edmund’s home. Mads had never eaten so well as when he stayed with Emke and her father. Mads didn’t know that he ever would come to know Edmund well. Edmund was very like Emke, in that he had a quiet yet open kindness about him. He was a very tall man, over 6 feet, which was surprising because of his daughter’s small stature. He had the same soft, brunette curls and light beard that was speckled with grey. Edmund had a hearty laugh and wonderful wrinkles about his eyes when he smiled. Mads was under the impression Edmund would be happy with a house full of children, if it were not for the death of his only love. His true love at least, it was clear Emke meant more to him than anything.

Everyday Emke had been in Mons she was in the bakery with her father, displaying pastries and helping customers. Her new ring glittered magically despite the layer of flour floating about Emke. In the few days Mads joined them he would spend his morning in the bakery reading and eating, but took to walking in the afternoons. There was an older man who owned a shoe repair across town. He was a Croat and just a boy when the Nazi’s invaded his town. Mads would spend most of his afternoon with Joel, who was quite surprised to discover Mads was not Croatian. On his last day in Mons, Mads told Joel to watch for gifts and made a note talk to Aajis about watching over his new friend.

It had taken years for Brussels to sink under Mads’ skin, but it had only taken days for Mads to feel comfortable in Mons. As much as Mads enjoyed his stay, he could not wait to return to work. He was getting restless. Mons felt as it was lulling him into an enchanted sleep from which he might not wake up.

It was difficult to watch Edmund and Emke part ways at the station. Edmund took Mads into his arms, “I wish there were something of value I could give you, but I have nothing important save Emke. Please, take care of her, and bring her back to me sometimes.”

“I will,” Mads promised quietly. Edmund waved from the platform as Emke and Mads boarded the train to Paris. Tears ran down Emke’s face as she sat next to Mads. He felt terrible. There was nothing he could say to her, perhaps there was nothing he should say to her. So, Mads and Emke sat quietly holding hands as the beautiful Belgian hills rolled past them.

In flight from Paris
Mads smiled at Emke peered intently out of the small airplane window. She was feeling considerably better, as they grew closer to the airport. “What do think?” Mads asked.

“I’m a little disappointed,” Emke looked back at Mads with a slight frown in her brow, “I have never ridden in a plane before and all I can see is ocean!”

“It will get far more interesting once we are closer to England.”

“I suppose you are right.” Emke replied distractedly as she watched a woman walk down the aisle. “Do people really have sex in the airplane?”

Mads laughed at the sudden change in topic, then followed Emke’s gaze towards the woman, and a man walking a few paces behind. “I guess so,” Mads answered as he and Emke craned their necks to see the couple vanish into a bathroom.

“Why?” Emke whispered.

“It is supposed to be good. Really good. Something to do with the altitude… I don’t know I’ve never done it.”

“Oh.. Do you want to try it?”

“Emke!” Mads desperately hoped the older women behind them couldn’t hear their conversation. “We can’t now. We talked about it, so if we both head to the bathroom everyone would know.”

“Alright.” Emke turned to look out the window. Mads watched her for a moment, then took out a book to read. He couldn’t seem to concentrate and would sneak sideways glances at Emke. She was so beautiful with the sun illuminating her chocolate brown curls, face tilted in contemplation, the corners of her pout turned upwards in a soft smile. Suddenly she looked up, caught Mads eye and smiled. Startled, Mads quickly returned to staring at the third page of his tome. Soon he could feel Emke’s warm breath as she leaned into him. “We do change flights in Heathrow, non?” Her mouth so close her lips gently touched Mads ear as she spoke.

Da,” was the only word from Mads’ extensive vocabulary that came to mind.
“Hmmm.” Emke exhaled quietly before softly kissing his jaw line just below his ear. Emke put on headphones and began watching the in-flight movie while Mads squirmed in his seat. His neck and ears, among other places, were growing hot. London suddenly seemed to be infinitely far away.

Black Lincoln Town car, in transit from JFK to hotel
“I must admit, I was worried when I discovered the size of the bathroom.” Mads took a long sip of champagne. “I think it could have been difficult if you were not so tiny.”
Emke gasped wide-eyed. “Do not look so shocked, mademoiselle. It was, after all, your idea.” Mads kissed Emke before draining his flute.

“Yes, well, I am still a lady. And you should not discuss the . . . transgressions of ladies.” Both dissolved into a fit of bubbly laughter. "You taste like tiny pink bubbles." Emke giggled kissing Mads.

"My head feels like it is filled with tiny bubbles!" Mads cried, before putting his spinning head in Emke's lap. "I need a nap." Emke gently petted Mads head as he played with the hem of her red, 1940's inspired dress.

“Oh, look.” Emke Roused Mads, before leaning across him. She put both hands on the window as she gazed out of the slowing car. Mads sluggishly joined her at the window as they pulled up to a beautiful art deco hotel. “It’s all so different from Belgium. Everything is so new. This building must only be 75 years old, but it looks ancient next to those skyscrapers.” Mads had to agree, some of the newest building in Brussels were built in the early 1800’s. New York was like a growing child. “Oh, Mads! I am excited to be living here.” Emke gushed in heavily accent English.

Emke kissed Mads before bounding out of the open door, leaving her coat and purse in the seat. Mads picked up her affects as he exited the car. Madslooked around while the driver shut the door then helped the bell hop with what luggage the Haumann’s brought on the plane. Emke took Mads hand and began trotting towards the gold framed doors. “Hurry Darling, we must check in.” Emke called, trying her best to sound like ZsaZsa Gabor.

“The bell hop will be up shortly to unload your luggage.” The portly man behind the desk handed Mads the room key and ushered them to the elevator. “Salet!” Emke joyously greeted the elevator operator. As the elevator doors closed Mads noticed a man in a black coat and fedora reading the newspaper. Just before Mads turned away, the man looked up from his newspaper and winked at Mads who continued to watch the stranger as the door closed. “People will never know they are being followed if you arrive at the destination first.” Mads recited his uncle’s words under his breath.

“Hmm?” Emke inquired as she slipped her hand into Mads’s. He turned to look down at his glowing wife.

“Nothing, muysken,” Mads kissed her forehead, “Just counting my blessings.” The two stood hand in hand as the elevator continued to climb towards the opulent room awaiting them.
