IC: Ethlawen

She heard the blast echoing in her ears. She turned around and looked with horrer as she saw the Deeping Wall was breached!

We are surrounded! Ethlawen thought. Her group was several yards away from the stairs. And they had to fight through 100's of uruk-kai to reach it. Such a task was suicidal for her elven regiment that only had about 50 warriors.

We have to hold our ground she thought. Maybe Theniniel or her friend Usilidur chould help us with there group. But Ethlawen had a sinking feeling that Usilidur and Theniniel already have problems of their own.

Of Samuel Half-shadow

Samuel allowed himself to be pushed back. He was on the defensive, he knew that this battle was won. Theniniel was pushing herself much too hard, it could only end in disaster.

It was an interesting prospect, to hold ones life in your hands. And, to see it extinguished. He had done it a few times before, every time it proved to bring him sorrow. He had hoped that his hands would stay clean of such innocent blood. Samuel knew it was Saruman’s fault, that he was thrust into this fight. He swore his vengeance for Theniniel’s life.

The dead body of an Uruk brought Samuel back to reality. He realized with a fleeting thought, that his body was dropping. His back hit the stone with a thud.

IC as Theniniel

Theniniel watched Samuel be pushed back by her blade and then...trip over a fallen enemy. That was it! That was her advantage and now, she would have to move quickly in order to avenge Usilidur. She gripped the hilt even tighter now and charged at him. Raising her sword above her head, she stared hard down at the fallen form and blinked some more tears out of her eyes.

"DIE, SAMUEL!"

Right as she began to swing down, a sudden flash of light took her sight away for just a moment and in that quick moment, she realized that it was not lightning. An explosion at the very bottom of the wall went off. In a second of reaction, she released one bloody hand from the hilt to shield her face and then...she was thrown off the safety of the wall and hit the ground below.

It took a moment for her sight to clear and for her to realize where she was. Theniniel was now on the ground where spare archers were and the wall...she stared at it when she slowly sat up after her dizziness spell faded away. There was a large gap now in the center of the wall. And Uruks charging in like a flood. Oh, no...

Then her mind snapped back into focus. Samuel. Where was he? she questioned and quickly scanned about herself. He would pay for what he did to Usilidur! And she would not rest until she killed him. Like what he did to Usilidur. She would kill him!

Total rage rushed through her veins and awoke every part of her body once more. The pain in her back and head from the fall seemed to have completely gone away, and if she had looked down at her hands as she scooped up her sword once more, she would have seen the blood from gripping her hilt too hard, but she did not feel the pain. There was only one thing on her mind now. And nothing would stop her from it.

She would kill Samuel.

Of Samuel Half-shadow

Samuel was knocked from the battlements, most likely saving his life, in the resounding explosion. The Uruk’s job was nearly over, and once he finished Theniniel, he would be able to disappear.

Samuel regained his composure enough to stand, but the compounded effect of the bomb and fall had thrown his concentration. He needed to gain it back, if wanted to live through killing Theniniel. Still, he managed to mock her oaths. He gestured around him, as he roared over the thunder.

“Can you really expect to win this battle? Your fortress is lost, and so are you, Theniniel. Accept your fate.”

Raising his blade over his head, Samuel lunged forward. His blade made a clear note, as it crashed into Theniniel’s. The note that resulted was almost poetic, signifying the incoming result of their duel.

IC as Theniniel

Theniniel whirled about and spotted her target. Samuel. Her hands gripped the hilt even tighter, blood running down to her wrists and dripping to the soaked ground.

“Can you really expect to win this battle? Your fortress is lost, and so are you, Theniniel. Accept your fate.”

"IT WILL BE YOU WHO DIES, MURDERER!"

As he raised his sword and moved toward her, she brought hers up as well and charged at the same moment. The two swords met in between the two and sparks shimmered off the two blades when her hands began to tremble under the force of Samuel's blade. But yet, she still held on tightly, trying to not loose her focus on keeping her blade up and protecting herself against his own.

Theniniel gritted her teeth together firmly and continued to hold the lock, trying her best to push against his sword. He was right. She was losing her strength. That edge. And she knew it. Tears poured down her face and she gave another weak push against his blade. "You killed him! How could you!"

If only she had known she was quite wrong indeed...

Of Samuel Half-shadow

Samuel could feel her strength waning. He had been right, Theniniel could not escape her fate. But, as the moment of her judgment approached, he felt less and less willing to complete the action. She gave a last weak push at his blade.

He could’ve killed her immediately, just cut her open, and left. But, he saw something in her, that he hadn’t seen in a hundred years. It stopped him, he took a step back and stared at Theniniel. He couldn’t kill her, for, he realized that she looked like another. So very similar.

His mind leapt to the past. The day he had left the one he loved. “Pregnant,” she had told him. So, he had disappeared. He couldn’t take it. Settling down wasn’t an easy prospect to face. He was forever a fighter, forever a deserter.

So, he stayed his blade. But, in that same instance, he grew terribly angry at himself. Why had he done it? He had built up a world that was unbearable. And, his stayed hand leapt out, to further his punishment. His blade whizzed at Theniniel’s side, faster than before.

IC as Theniniel

Theniniel's eyesight blurred under waves of tears that poured down her cheeks. She was losing her strength, her energy, and her speed. Usilidur was dead, or so she thought, and her body was slowing. She'd have to be careful for the rest of the battle if she wanted to survive.

The Elf blinked the tears away and stared, baffled, that Samuel had took a step back. What...what was he doing? she mused as she panted for breath. And then, in a sudden move that seemed so much faster than his other attacks, he moved.

His small blade had made it right through her defenses. She blinked at the sudden wave of pain echoed through her entire left side, right under the ribcage. Not long after that pain, did she finally notice the searing pain in her spine and head from the fall, and the burning pain in the smooth skin of the palms of her hands. But she hardly focused on those spots. Couldn't focuse on those. He had cut deep. Real deep.

She stood still, staring at Samuel's eyes, darkened by the stormy night. How...how had his attack...how did it get her...? Usilidur...

The only movement she could do, was suddenly jerking forward, coughing. After she recovered from a small fit of it, she felt something wet and warm roll down the curve of her lip and tasted it. Blood. She fell forward onto her knees and drove the tip of her sword into the ground to use it to keep her stablized and coughed up even more blood. She...she was dying. It was certain now.

And she could not achieve avenging Usilidur's death. Her spirit would live on with that horrifying knowledge.

Theniniel's grip eased a good deal on her now blood soaked hilt and slowly looked up to see Samuel's evil face.

Ragnar stared down at the stonework beneath him, what could men do against such evil. Ragnar then turned to face his king, for a moment Ragnar had lost his faith, this was Ragnar's weapon this is what kept him fighting. Gripping the handle of his sword he took a step towards his King.

"My lord, you know i would serve you and your people right up to my dying breath. And if am to die here i will die keeping the White Tree standing. But i am not dead yet and while i draw breath Mordor shall learn that Gondor still stands strong."

"My lord the men are ready."

Of Samuel Half-shadow

Samuel shook his head. Rainwater trickled into the corners of his mouth. But, it wasn’t rain. The water was salty. His tears mixed with the rain and it all dripped from his face to his outstretched hands. How could he? This wasn’t how it should’ve happened. He had stopped. Why must he have swung?

Samuel rushed forward to Theniniel. She could do little to protest his hands wrapping around hers. Her eyes stared defiantly into his, but he couldn’t have her last moments drawn out in anger. Knowing the answer, Samuel posed a trembling, one-word query.

“Fatal?”

IC as Theniniel

Theniniel glowered at Samuel when he approached and placed his hands around hers, which were on the hilt. She glared even harder at his question. “Fatal?”

"You try..." she stopped to grit her teeth in the terrible pain and told herself that she had received worse wounds than that one. "You try to cut me down and now you are mocking me?"

A sudden wave of rage had Theniniel back onto her feet, sword held aloft. She took one quick step toward Samuel and swung, but dropped the blade in mid swing. The sword fell to the blood soaked ground and the Elvish maiden dropped to her knees, propping herself up by her hands. It hurt way to much to do that and she could feel the warmth of blood quickly run down the length of her hip and leg, some absorbing into her outfit.

Theniniel let out a small cry of pain when she shifted a bit and then had an even worse coughing fit, feeling more blood drip down from her lips. "You are nothing but a treacherous snake, killing both me and my love, defiling our honor. Our oaths." She said and slowly looked up to meet his gaze.

Of Samuel Half-shadow

Samuel sighed. He met her gaze. Unwaveringly, he spoke.

“I have never protested the opposite, Theniniel. I am indubitably traitorous. But, I had not wished this. I had not come with the intention of bringing your death, and as our fight continued, I nearly resisted. But, it is both of our destinies to die. You, just this once. I, must die over and over, before my debt is settled.”

Samuel shook his head. He reached around, grabbing Theniniel’s sword, and resting it in her bloodied palms. His tears mingled now, with that very red liquor. He closed his eyes, the salty mixture mingled around the corners of them, threatening to fall.

“If Usilidur truly has fallen, then allow me to lay you by him. Sleep by him, eternally.”

Theniniel glared all the harder at him and gripped her sword as tight as she could when he returned it to her, though it was surprising weak. She was losing her energy quickly, she noted and hated him more for it. She couldn't kill him. She couldn't avenge Usilidur...she gritted her teeth in pain and hatred. "Then I hope each time is more painful than what you have done. What pain you have caused. And I hope that you will never rest. Just enduring that pain everyday." She snapped at him, eyes narrowed.

“If Usilidur truly has fallen, then allow me to lay you by him. Sleep by him, eternally.”

"You mock me once, you will not do it again!" Theniniel barked at him and stood shakily, her entire body trembling under the extreme pain that sent tears streaming down her dirty face. "Leave, Samuel. And never cause pain to..." she closed her eyes tightly and groaned. "To others."

Theniniel turned slowly and leaned on her sword heavily. She was able to manage one step before collapsing onto her hands and knees and screaming out in pain. By the feel of things...she had made the wound worse by attemping to walk. I do not...do not have much...much time...

Of Samuel Half-shadow

Samuel knelt by Theniniel. Her aggravated wound was flowing blood and she would die soon. Samuel was suddenly desperate to convince her. For both her sake, and his own. If she allowed him to lay her by Usilidur, perhaps he could live without this weight.

“You do Usilidur, and yourself, injustice, by denying yourselves this right. Please, do not let this face be the last you see. Look upon your love, once more.”

Samuel hands tightened around Theniniel’s. His guilt triggered a weakness in him, that had been established when he had left her, so long ago. He couldn’t stop himself from writhing, at his cowardice.

“You do Usilidur, and yourself, injustice, by denying yourselves this right. Please, do not let this face be the last you see. Look upon your love, once more.”

"I will go myself." Theniniel said after spitting out some blood that continued to run into her mouth. She would find Usilidur and she would lay beside him on her own terms. She just needed to stand and then...she'd be fine. Endure this! I must stand to get to him! I must stand!

Theniniel pushed Samuel to the side and used all of her energy to push herself up and onto her feet. Shakily, she stood, but as she straightened her body, the skin about the large wound tightened and the blood flow increased. She grasped her hilt tight and groaned in pain. I must...get to Usilidur. I must!

Slowly, she moved her foot forward and then the other. But as she leaned all of her weight onto that leg, even more pain rushed through her. She cried out in pain and drove her blade into the ground to keep standing. Her body trembled under the weight and pain and threatened to collapse once again.

Of Samuel Half-shadow

Samuel sighed in relief. If Theniniel made it to Usilidur, he would be free of this torment. Samuel walked slowly behind her, watching to make sure that she remained standing. Tears still cascaded from his eyes, and the battle still raged, but he ignored both.

“He would be behind that rubble, just there.”

Samuel pointed out, not worrying if Theniniel was even looking. She would see it. He had faith, that she would be able to find him. Her form, limping due to her injury, reminded him of the past he had left behind.
