RE: The Lords of Middle-Earth: Door of Night
Varesi & Tareya Horosil IC:
Location ~Ceraias, Rohan
Varesi went quiet as the explaination of the group's presence was told to him and his sister, a grim thoughtful expression on his face. As for Tareya...well, a grin was slowly spreading across her face, like the sun slowly peaking over the mountains to bathe the world in light...though this light was a bit manic.
"That sounds like quite the quest..." Tareya began before being interrupted by Varesi.
"Indeed. An important and highly dangerous one. I am surprised to see any truly seeking out the Door of Night..."
"I'm not!" huffed Tareya in defiance, "And dangerous or not. I already know I want in!"
"Absolutely not," replied Varesi sternly.
The Horosil daughter merely looked at him, "You're not my parent, only my brother, Varesi. My decision is my own to make. If you're so worried about me," a smirk, "you'll just have to come along."
Varesi did not reply, merely stared at her in unsurprised disappointment and a grim sadness. This whole affair had an ill feeling to it, more so than the other half-brained quests Tareya snuck out on from time to time. Despite the words, Varesi believed what was said was the truth. And that was what scared him. They needed to stay in Ceraias, it was the safest place for them, at least for now.
But...Tareya would not budge, he knew it. She had that look already about her, in fact, she was already marching out toward the outskirts of town, waving at them all.
"Come on, it's this way! It is about a half-hour hike from here. Lets get moving here. And you're definitely coming, Varesi, you know you need to be there for this."
He sighed, "Yes, I know. Guardian of the Door."
Tareya beamed, "That's right!"
The woman pivoted on her heel once more and led the group to the Door of Night.
When they came upon its location, give or take about a half-hour later, it looked like a simple hill with crude runes and words marked into some rocks close by to a tough wooden door barring the way. Runes and words which were meant to signify the place of the dead. A burial site.
"This is to make it inconspicous. Actually works thanks to the superstition from folks," Tareya explained before taking a spot in front of the door and facing them all. She jabbed her finger next to her while gazing at her brother. Reluctantly, he went and stood next to her, looking at the group as well.
"Welcome to the Door of Night, brave warriors. Heroic travelers," Tareya began as her brother mentally shook his head, "before you can gain entrance however...you must first pass three tests. We can't let you just walk up to it like some kind of gift, you see."
I prefer if we did, but no use telling her that,
thought Varesi glumly.
"Do you think you're ready for this?" Tareya asked with a serious face, her eyes pinning each member of the group in place in turn.

RE: The Lords of Middle-Earth: Door of Night
OOC: This is a continuation of yesterday's.
IC: Ethlawen
Quickly, Ethlawen organized her group of elves for a break out. She knew if they were to stand a chance they will have to break out of the uruk-kai circle.
"Three, Two,...Now!" Ethlawen shouted, giving her group the order to break out. Quickly the elves slashed their way thruogh the uruks to reach the stairs. Ethlawen raced towads the stairs and decapatated the head of the uruk that was blocking the stairs.
Ethlawen turned to wait for her group, but she turned only to see her last elves hacked down by the uruk scimitars. She was alone.

IC: Aranarth II
"Welcome to the Door of Night, brave warriors. Heroic travelers," Tareya began as her brother mentally shook his head, "before you can gain entrance however...you must first pass three tests. We can't let you just walk up to it like some kind of gift, you see."
"Do you think you're ready for this?"
Aranarth became even more puzzled as Tareya and Varesi led the group to what seemed to be a tomb. Tareya ensured that it was not a tomb, but indeed the Door of Night. As Tareya began explaining about the Door, Aranarth noticed Varesi seemed very skeptical of it all. After Tareya finished speaking, Aranarth stepped forward.
"What of the key?" Aranarth asked. "The map said in order to open the door, we would need a key. Do you have it?" He looked to Varesi, "What is going on here?"

IC: Eomer
Eomer looked over the top of the wall. There was Usilidur dragging Thenniel, and about a dozen elves remaining. The cover from the archers had held the Uruks back, temporarily. "Usilidur," Eomer called out, "here!" He tossed a rope over the side of the wall. Several more ropes were tossed over as well, giving them the oppurtunity to fall back into the fortress.

IC as
Alagosir
Alagosir silently watched the twins take in the information of their quest, but he kept his ears half listening to the sounds around them. His stronger hearing would be able to pick up anyone moving closer to listen to what Aranarth was saying. For some odd reason, he wasn't quite surprised that Tareya began grinning. Something Darcyn would probably do.
As for Varesi, a grim look crossed his face as he th thought it over. The two began to speak it over until his sister managed to say that she was going and that he'd have to come along with her. The Elf glanced at Aranarth to see his reaction to
that
. Apparently she was going with them and it would be hard to persuade her otherwise.
And then she began leading them out of the town. Alagosir only waited a brief moment before moving off with the group. Was the Door of Night really here? Were they really this close to finishing with their quest? A smile came to his face and anticipation bubbled in the pit of his stomach as he followed the twins. But...a frown replaced the smile. Where would Evalynn go after accomplishing the quest? Would she return to Rohan to her family? He was going to hate parting with her when the time came, but decided to keep his mind clear of that. For now.
Before he even realized it, they were at the Door of Night. He blinked in surprise at it. A simple hill with a wood door and a sign that said it was a burial ground. Had they lied?
"This is to make it inconspicous. Actually works thanks to the superstition from folks,"
"Ah, I see," Alagosir commented. Good idea, he mused and looked it over.
"Welcome to the Door of Night, brave warriors. Heroic travelers, before you can gain entrance however...you must first pass three tests. We can't let you just walk up to it like some kind of gift, you see."
He blinked at her comment. Tests? He let out a quiet sigh. He supposed that was the right thing to do. They were the guardians to it, after all.
"Do you think you're ready for this?"
"Please, we have come all this way for the Door of Night. We are quite ready for these...tests."

RE: The Lords of Middle-Earth: Door of Night
IC: Evalynn Astalith
Following the Horosil twin’s across the plains, the company finally came to a stop in front of a hill with a large heavy looking door set into it. Markings on nearby rocks indicated a burial site. It reminded Evalynn of a much bigger version of the burial barrows that lined the road towards Edoras.
"This is to make it inconspicous. Actually works thanks to the superstition from folks,"
Tareya said as the group took in their surroundings. She heard Alagosir comment before Tareya and Varesi stood in front of them, Varesi seeming slightly more reluctant to do so, but doing as his sister instructed. She then became serious, locking eyes with each member of the company in turn
"Welcome to the Door of Night, brave warriors. Heroic travelers…before you can gain entrance however...you must first pass three tests. We can't let you just walk up to it like some kind of gift, you see…"Do you think you're ready for this?"
"Please, we have come all this way for the Door of Night. We are quite ready for these...tests."
Alagosir answered. Tests? What sort of tests? Evalynn pondered and began to feel a small pang of nervousness as Tareya’s eyes connected with her own, but she fought it away. Taking a quiet breath in, she nodded her head in agreement at Alagosir's declaration. She had come too far to falter now. They were now reaching a major milestone in their quest. And they had to be ready for anything, including these tests.

IC: Ethlawen
Tears came down her face as she saw all the elves in her group hacked down till they died. She recalled these same elves leaving lothlorien after giving their farewells to their family and friends. She remembered hearing their promises to return home. But of course that promise would not be kept.
Ethlawen raced towards Eomer's spot in the battle. "Lord Eomer! They have taken the walls!"

RE: The Lords of Middle-Earth: Door of Night
OOC:
Rushed post, I apologize for it's hastiness.
Of
Usilidur Wenoway
Usilidur, in his desperation, unceremoniously slung Theniniel over his shoulder. His legs pounded hard on the ground, barely strong enough to push him on. Let alone make a lunge for the rope. And, yet, extra weight and everything, he managed to launch himself high onto the threads, his only lifeline.
Usilidur pulled himself shakily up the rope, his arms trembling from the gesture. Behind him, only two of his elven guards remained and as quick as it had taken for Usilidur to realize it, one was skewered from the back. A throaty cry broke the sound of battle, vibrating straight to Usilidur’s core.
Slowly, but surely, with arrows thundering against the walls around him, Usilidur made it to the top of the wall. Reaching down to pull the last elf up, an arrow hammered into the man’s back. His eyes spoke unnatural terror, at the end of his life, using most of his remaining strength, Usilidur hauled the corpse over the wall and dragged him behind him.
His heart sang for the many who had given their lives to save Theniniel and he, and his recently dry cheeks felt the brush of two tears. He blinked and carried his precious load to the fortress gates, nearly crawling at the end. Hordes of Uruk-hai at his tail, Usilidur collapsed inside the halls, exhausted beyond comprehension and bleeding in various places. The broken shaft of an arrow was visible in his shoulder.
Usilidur let his hand go of the fallen elf and let his hands bring Theniniel to his front. Holding her tight, on his knees, Usilidur pressed his head against her chest. And, faintly, over the pounding in his own temples, he could feel a flutter of a heartbeat. Newfound hope lending him energy, Usilidur rushed drunkenly to a healer.
Collapsing in front of a old human, Usilidur whispered.
“Save her.”

IC: Ethlawen
Ethlawen heared Eomer's order to fall back to the keep. Quickly she raced on the walls towards the keep. After only five minutes of strenuous running, she finally reached the gate. One uruk-kai warrior raced at her with his scimitar raised. Instinctivly, Ethlawen kicked it over the wall into the sea of uruk-kai below.
That has got to hurt,
Ethlawen thought. Just then a sharp, explosion of pain went up her back. She collapsed, and then blacked out.

RE: The Lords of Middle-Earth: Door of Night
IC as
Theniniel
Consciousness slowly returned to the woman on the ground, being tended to by a Human healer, one of the few still remaining. Sensation of the hard, cold ground and pain pulsing to life across her midsection were the first things Theniniel could register before sounds of the people surrounding her followed soon after.
Her eyelids, heavier than ever, lifted a slight amount, only to close them again quickly due to unexpected light. It was now obvious she was no longer outside, but rather inside and it seemed by the unhurried movements of the healer, there was no danger just yet. And so, she forced her eyes open as far as she could make them. She was in the keep of Helm's Deep.
Why are we here...? Did we not...did we not defeat our enemies?
Theniniel only briefly glanced at the healer, an old man of Rohan and by the look on his face, it would have seemed they had lost. Her memory of the fight with Samuel appeared in her mind again, making her frown. He had managed to get away after wounding her, but why was she breathing right now? Wasn't she supposed to be dead? she mused and inhaled a sharp breath when the man applied his medicine to her large and quite open wound.
He blinked at her in surprise and then a smile eased his worried and worn appearance. "Ah, good. You're awake now."
The Elvish maiden nodded weakly in response and then spotted another man near her. She blinked over at him and then stared in awe. But...how could it be...? "U-Usilidur...?" Slowly, as her arms protested moving, she pushed herself up to try to be at a sitting position before the healer stopped her. "Try not to move, lass."
Theniniel passed off what he had said and stared at the man next to her. "It cannot be you..."

Of
Usilidur Wenoway
Helm’s Deep
Usilidur had been sitting on a bucket, facing Theniniel’s masterfully injured body. His hands squeezing the other, Usilidur tried not to have a panic attack. Every instance that Theniniel lay unmoved, he grew more anxious. When her upper body struggled forward, his heart fluttered. Sighing relief, he leaned forward, reaching his hand to rest on her cheek. With a smile of uncontrollable jubilance, he laughed, though his voice came out rough.
“Are you disappointed to see me, Then? Lay yourself down, I am not leaving.”
Usilidur caressed the side of her face, his eyes twinkling. His strength was slowly returning and it was accompanied by his humor, at his recent discovery of Then’s survival. Usilidur blinked away a tear of joy, letting his beaming gaze fully match the concerned eyes of his partner.

IC as
Theniniel
Theniniel could only stare, speechless, at Usilidur as he moved to stroke her dirty cheek softly. His smile of relief and gentle chuckle only made her blink further. He was...okay? The entire...entire time? Tears shimmered in her eyes as she stared at him.
“Are you disappointed to see me, Then? Lay yourself down, I am not leaving.”
"You are alive!" she cried out before using all of her strength to sit up fully and throw her arms about him, holding him tight against her. Pain flared even stronger now, but she ignored it the best she could, focusing entirely on Usilidur.
Tears ran down her face as she held him in her arms. "I had been tricked by that horrible Samuel that you were in fact dead...I am overjoyed that you are not!" she said through relieved sobs, crying onto his unharmed shoulder.

Tareya Horosil IC:
Location ~Door of Night, Rohan
Tareya smirked at those who said they were ready for the tests. That was great. Finally! Finally someone would attempt them! But that Aranarth man was skeptical and starting to demand of a key while looking at Varesi. That would simply not do.
Before her brother announced anything, she replied. "The key is rewarded if you prove worthy. Quite simple actually."
And now for the first test...
"I will choose someone to take a bow and shoot a single arrow at that tree," she pointed at one not too far off, "if the arrow strikes it and the one who cast it is truly worthy and the rest of you are...a suit or armor shall descend from the tree. If you are not worthy, all of you will drop dead."
"Will not," responded Varesi reassuringly.
Tareya glared at him a moment, "Excuse me? You weren't the one told by Middle-Earth of the tests and their consequences! Right? Right! Now unless you want to fight...oh never mind!"
A brief pause as she recollected herself and her brother went back to shaking his head, then: "Ok then, now that that's settled...I choose..."
Here, Tareya cast glances at all of them despite any of their attitudes or trepidations on the whole thing, waiting for dramatic effect. Suspense was a good thing and with the amount of time she waited for someone to search for the Door of Night, she deserved to do it!
Varesi just stood where he was, no doubt disapproving, he probably would just love to hand over the key and let them in, but that wouldn't do!
"...you." She finally announced, her finger pointed straight at the chosen for first test.
Evalynn.

RE: The Lords of Middle-Earth: Door of Night
IC: Evalynn Astalith
Evalynns face was a mix of surprise and uncertainty as Tareya chose her for the first task. She was not a very competent archer by any means, having mostly only learnt how to use a blade. And unlike the rest of the party who had past combat experience using weapons such as the bow prior to the quest, she had not. Maybe this was why Tareya chose her for it. Alagosir and the others could probably hit a tree from over 100 meters away without a second thought, and then it wouldn't be much of a test. She looked at the tree that Tareya indicated a slight frown on her face
"What if I miss? Would all our effort in getting here be for nothing? And it would be all my fault! But I've seen it done before, I just need to remember..."
Snapping out of her thoughts, she sighed softly and took the bow in her hands, getting a feel for it to see which arm felt more natural to hold it with. Opting for the left, she stood side on, feet shoulder width apart, an uncomfortable look on her face that try as she might could not fully disguise. She felt the eyes of the company on her back as she took an arrow. Would they be really mad at her if she missed? What would Alagosir think? She pointed the bow downwards and nocked it onto the string and rested it on the thin arrow shelf above the handle. She put her fingers on the string and looked at the tree once more
"Just try..."
She said to herself as she brought the bow up, aiming and pulling the string back. She took a quiet breath in and let go of the string. The arrow flew from the bow in the general direction of the tree, but the string caught the inside of her forearm in the process and Evalynn yelped and almost dropped it. Had she managed to hit the tree? She looked at it and saw no suit of armor falling from its branches. Turning around, she looked at Alagosir rubbing her arm through her sleeve
"I'm sorry I...I must of missed! I..."
She was about to continue apologising when suddenly a metallic rattle and clang caught her ears. Turning quickly back round, she saw something decending from the tree. Jogging over, she saw it was armor! And above it just where the tree trunk disappeared into its leafy canopy was the arrow. Had she succeeded in passing the test?
"I don't know how this happened, but by the horse lords I am glad it did!"
