RE: The Lords of Middle-Earth: Door of Night
OOC: Don't mind me here.
Varesi and Tareya Horosil IC:
Location ~Door of Night, Rohan
As the woman known as Evalynn was getting ready to shoot her arrow at the indicated tree, Varesi stretched and walked past her and toward the tree.
"As...part of the test," he said carefully, "I must stand by the tree to make sure no magic is involved and to also hope for you not to hit me."
There. Tareya would be happy as he thought he was doing it for her and increasing Evalynn's anxiety, as well as the others. But really, he was doing it for Evalynn. Personally, these tests were a nuisance, but of course Tareya would hear none of it and she was the one holding the key.
Good thing he was prepared.
He stood where he was, seeing an uneasy look on the woman's face before finally shooting the arrow. For a brief second he was afraid she messed up and the arrow was coming straight at him! He started to make a sound and braced...as if that would do anything. But instead he heard the soft thud of the arrow striking the tree.
Well, that was a piece of luck
he thought. And with that, he pulled the small piece of string he was hiding behind his back. Not a moment later, a small suit of armor dropped from the tree and clanged onto the ground, making them all relieved.
No magic or anything here, just Varesi thinking ahead. Tareya had these tests all created way in advance and so he was able to place the suit of armor in the tree one day when she was off who knows where. He attached a string to a piece hidden but overhanging so the slightest pull would settle it off balance on its precarious spot and fall off.
When none were looking, he tossed the little string up and over a branch so none would see. He hoped the elves didn't see, he was pretty sure they didn't. And apparently Tareya did not for she wore a dumbstruck expression on her face.
How could she...amazing!
she thought in her head. But then she watched as Varesi calmly walked back to them all from the tree.
Wait a minute...it's not possible...and...hm...
Her gaze narrowed at her brother, who was looking at the group at the moment.
"Congratulations," she said simply before pressing ahead, "And now for the second test. One of you that I choose must..."
Varesi waited quietly knowing a riddle was to come. The answer was Time. He'd just have to make subtle hints without his sister knowing.
"...duel my brother and defeat him in non-lethal combat. First one to be knocked down wins."
Varesi stared at Tareya, before recollecting himself. He could do it, but still...
Tareya quietly went next to him and whispered in his ear, "Do your best, brother. And trust me, I've seen you fight enough to know when you're going easy..."
So. She suspected. Varesi nodded to Tareya and then moved in front of the door and pulled out his two blades, waiting for his sister to choose his opponent. Why, oh why, did she have to be like this?
He'd still go easy, not too easy, but still would after a bit. At first though he'd have to keep pace to make it seem real to his sister.
Tareya meanwhile was looking around at the group for her next prey.
"How about...you. What's your name?" she asked pointing straight at Amanion, "I'd like you to fight my brother, Varesi. Begin when you are ready."
When the elf was in position, Varesi nodded to him, "You may make the first move."

IC: Amanion Calestel
"The name is Amanion if you don't mind, and I'd be glad to take him on." Amanion said, he then approached the man, unsheathing his own blade, a seemingly fiery aura coming from it. "I'd also be obliged to make the first move. With that he bowed slightly and like a flash was on Varesi and had brought his sword to bear on his opponents. "Though I warn you, I've had thousands of years to hone my sword skills." He whispered into his ear.

Varesi Horosil IC:
Location ~Door of Night, Rohan
Varesi quietly bowed in return to the Elf named Amanion as he did so and then was surprised as he lunged forward and struck. Just barely he was able to bring one of his swords up to block it in time and heard Amanion's words.
This is true, so I must be careful.
He swung his blade at Amanion, the free one quickly as if in a chop to the shoulders to damage his arm, but purposely did not swing at full speed and did not make it the most accurate chop he'd ever done.
Amanion probably could have blocked it anyway, but he wanted to make sure the elf would win, even if he didn't know that. He had to trick Tareya. Problem was...would she notice?
A small series of trading blocks shortly commenced between the two warriors, only Varesi's defense 100% accurate of his capabilities. And he was no slouch by any means. But then, neither was Amanion.
He quickly established using his left sword to attack and his right to block, hoping the elf might eventually catch on to the tactic and be able to devise a plan to use that knowledge to defeat him, thereby making Tareya think he won with Varesi trying his all.
For now she was merely watching with enthusiasm and starting to tell her brother to 'Go get him.'
Oi.

RE: The Lords of Middle-Earth: Door of Night
IC: Ethlawen
Rivendell-A few weeks ago, before the council
The young elf walked along the garden path besides her father. On a normal day, the garden would be blooming with radiant colors of the season. But, the darkness seems to have not just corrupted the earth, but the seasons. Ever since spring, the world seems to have lost the ability to create colors to express the joy of nature and life. Now, it seems the world creates colors as if it was a dull job that someone wants to get over with.
“I’ve seen better days,” the girl sighed.
“As have I,” her father agreed. With those words, the two sat down on a bench. All was silent. Then the father said “Ethlawen…Do you understand why you can’t participate in this Door of Night crisis?”
“No.” Ethlawen answered. “All I do know is that we all have a part to play in this war. And…”
“That is your aunt talking” Elrohir said. He silently cursed his sister Arwen for giving his daughter ridiculous ideas.
“But why can’t I at least join the council?” Ethlawen whined.
“Because I don’t want you to get any ridiculous ideas on going on a hopeless crusade!” snapped her father. Elrohir paused for a moment, then adopted a gentler tone. “Listen, I may have to go to war soon. If I die, you will be the only sort of comfort for your mother. If you die and I die, your mother will carry a grief that is to great to bear. I don’t want that for her.”
Ethlawen nodded, “I understand.” Then she looked up and her eyes brightened. “Hey look father! A blossom, our first one!”
Her father got up, plucked the blossom from its tree, and said “it is also our last.” He put it in his daughter’s hand and closed it around the flower. “Keep this, as a remembrance of good times, our discussion, and hope for a better future.”
Elrohir left his daughter to let her ponder their discussion. Ethlawen looked at the flower. It was gold in the center with white covering its pedals. As she looked at it, she heard the words her father said, If I die, you will be the only sort of comfort for your mother.

RE: The Lords of Middle-Earth: Door of Night
IC: Amanion Calestel
Amanion saw the blade approach and grabbed Varesi's wrist with his free hand, he then twisted behind Varesi pushing his arm up behind his back applying pressure, hoping to inflict sufficient pain to make Varesi drop the blade, but to assure a possible surrender he moved his blade to the back of Varesi's neck. "Like I said, millenia." Amanion said, however he didn't doubt that Varesi would find a way out of this, after all Amanion was taking things just as easily on Varesi as he was being with him.

RE: The Lords of Middle-Earth: Door of Night
Of
Usilidur Wenoway
Helm’s Deep
Usilidur let her cry into his neck, the salty tears burning his cut skin. He reveled in the pain, for it proved that Usilidur truly was alive. His body was telling him he should be dead and obviously he should, if he was a human. But, Usilidur had received the traits of his mother, rather than his mysterious and deserting father. It was the one thing he could thank the absentee for: not passing on his humanity.
Seeing that Theniniel was hurting herself, he forcibly lay her back down onto the bed, remained as gentle as he could. He had no wish to let her harm herself further. And, now he addressed their issue. Usilidur was seething at Samuel’s fated, untimely and treacherous return. He silently vowed revenge for the pain the strange human had inflicted and then voiced it aloud.
“Samuel is not long for this earth, now. He has betrayed the most sacred code that man ever had and must die for that blasphemy.”
Perhaps he was speaking in youthful spite, but the resolution in Usilidur’s eyes was apparent and unwavering.

IC: Ethlawen
Helm's Deep
If I die, you will be the only sort of comfort for your mother.
Somehow, those words struck a chord in Ethlawen's heart. A chord about a vow she made the moment she accepted the flower friom her father's hand. The vow she made that she will not die and leave her mother alone.
Ethlawen opened her eyes a slant, and saw the uruk who slashed her towering over her bellowing his victory. With the elven reflexes she inherited, she rose up and slashed the surprised uruk's head off.
Ethlawen didn't take the time to savior her trimph. She can't fight the pain from her back forever. Quickly she staggared into the keep. Once inside, she limped up to a Rohan soldier and said "I need medical attention, where are the healers?"

OOC: Gah! Damn edits!
IC as
Alagosir
Alagosir frowned only faintly when Tareya chose Evalynn to fire an arrow at the tree. It wasn't all that far off, but he wasn't quite sure how well her skills were when it came to the bow and arrows. From what he had seen of her, she hadn't even touched one before. But, he had faith in her, nonetheless and silently rooted her on.
She took it into her hands stiffly and uncomfortably and then took her aim. And released the arrow. In a second's time, the arrow struck the trunk of the tree and a smile crept across his face. He only blinked when he heard Evalynn say,
"I'm sorry I...I must of missed! I..."
Right as he opened his mouth to tell her that she was wrong, a thud and a clang clattered down the tree and fell to the grassy ground. He blinked at it and realized what it was. The suit of armor! He was both relieved and curious. He quirked a brow at Varesi's presence at the side of the tree, but passed if off with a mental shrug.
The next challenge was for Amanion to fight against Varesi, and so the two began dueling against one another.
Alagosir took a few steps away to give them more room and motioned to Evalynn to do the same. He looked down at her with an approving smile. "You did very well, Evalynn. If I had first met you not long ago, I would have thought you were an expert archer."

IC as
Theniniel
After a little while of sobbing onto Usilidur's shoulder, he gently laid her back down and spoke about the one person she wished she could forget.
“Samuel is not long for this earth, now. He has betrayed the most sacred code that man ever had and must die for that blasphemy.”
Theniniel frowned sadly, ignoring the large rush of pain throbbing everywhere. "I am so sorry I could not do it myself, Usilidur. I...I had tried my best and I did almost...but then I had lost that chance...How did the battle turn?"

OOC: Oh, I see how you want to play now, eh chanbill?
Varesi Horosil IC:
Location ~Door of Night, Rohan
Varesi was surprised and grunted out in pain as the elf grabbed his wrist and turned it behind his back.
Ouch...that's usually my move, heh...
The elf again whispered his experience and extensive training in a single word, that he repeated to him. Millenia. Varesi did not doubt it and was not truly surprised at his combat ability, he
was
an elf and they did have millenia to learn. But...
"I may be but a man..." Varesi grunted out, "but that just means I cram more training in a shorter period...of time..."
And with that, he showed Amanion that he forgot Varesi was a dual wielder for a moment and reversed the grip on the sword that was in his 'free' hand and stabbed backwards. Not only that he crouched low as quick as he could, taking a little shaving of his hair and some skin on the back of his neck, as well as letting his wrist and arm be yanked in a weird angle for a moment before being let go as the elf moved to block or dodge. You could not win a duel without some pain, some blood. And that. That was one of the reasons why he despised fighting when he had to.
With his now once again free second hand, despite the pain it gave, he swung the blade where he spotted the elf blocking/dodging his stabbing maneuver. He also resolved to, if he got the chance, to show Amanion he could catch swinging hands as well. After all, he was (now that he was clear again from the fading pain) paying attention to the elf's fighting style and personality. It spoke loudly of his person and how he would continue to react in this violent, aggressive sport.
And time stood still for the two. All there was...Was the Duel. This was what it was to be a duelist. Nothing. But the fight.

IC: Amanion Calestel
"I think we can drop the formalities now, I believe it's time for me to go all out." Amanion said. With that he breathed deep and as he let the breath out a noticeable change occurred in the air around him, it felt hot, like flames, and indeed it seemed his aura had taken on a form of it's own. "I am Amanion Calestel of the Vanyar of Valinor. It is time I end this duel." Amanion said, he then leapt at Varesi again, this time bringing his sword to bear on his opponents other blade, his sword crafted by Aule began to cut deeply into the edge of the other blade. "As you can see my sword is crafted out of a tougher metal than yours." Amanion said as he began to cut the other sword in half.

OOC: I'll just say you're pushing strongly against Varesi's blades.
Varesi Horosil IC:
Location ~Door of Night, Rohan
Varesi locked his blades together quickly as soon as Amanion came at him. Was he using magic against him? That was hardly fair, but in any case, he just hoped the elf remembered this was a non-lethal duel till the first person falls.
Using his swords in the classic 'x' position to block Amanion's attack, they remained locked as the elf began strongly pushing against the man. Seeing his chance to indeed end the duel quickly and without suspicion from his sister due to the impressive attack and mysterious aura, he let out a clumsy kick with his right foot while trying to hold off the elf, making sure he'd miss and then kept his swords in place but let his arms not push back as strongly.
Making the elf easily overwhelm him and push him back and down onto the ground. The duel was over and Amanion had won. It may have been because Varesi secretly let him, but he still had won. And plus had it been real and dragged on, the elf probably would have been victorious anyway.
Varesi inclined his head before Amanion after catching his breath, "You fight well, Elf. You have passed the second test." He smiled tiredly.

"You did very well, Evalynn. If I had first met you not long ago, I would have thought you were an expert archer."
Evalynn chuckled softly and shook her head
"Thank you Alagosir, But I must say that striking that tree was sheer luck. I was taught the way of the sword to defend myself because I requested it, but I was told learning to use a bow was unnessesary as I would never need to use one, as I would never go to war..."
She trailed off, a few memories rising to the surface of her mind as she watched Varesi and Amanion dueling. She did not hear the grunts or scuffles of the clanging of their swords. But instead, disaproving voices from the past
"...Honestly that Astalith girl should really know her place more, a girl belongs ln the home bearing children not bearing arms..."
"Head in the clouds..."
"She's been spending too much time around that soldier fella and his troops, filling her head with nonsense..."
"Who does she think she is? A soldier?..."
Blinking out of her memories, she shrugged them off and looked at the kind elf again
"...Still, no harm done"

The Elf quietly kept his gaze, which softened, on the woman as she trailed off, no doubt exploring memories from the past. Whether it was long ago or recent, he could not tell. He could see that her family did, and would always, hold a warm place for her in their hearts, but still...he mused. She did not have the best life and now...this "war" they were in, was not making it better. And Arabryn would not have turned against his own fiancee.
"...Still, no harm done"
Alagosir could only express his remorse for her through the sad look in his eyes and was about to offer comfort when he heard Varesi say,
"You fight well, Elf. You have passed the second test."
He glanced over at the man and Elf, so it would seem that Amanion had defeated Varesi. What could be the third test, then?
