How long till we arrive at the cargo?
OOC: Best guess would be about twenty five minutes down the erosion trail. Plus another fifteen minutes to the Cargo pod from the trail head. So about forty five minutes total.
IC: Nimrod activated his parabolic dish for microburst transmission to the cargo pod.
"Kato I've got Tanner on a ledge about a hundred feet down from the top. I'm going to take him up to the top and from there I'll attempt to carry him down the erosion path. If you get contact with Chryse Planitia, tell Base Commander Decker the situation and request an extraction team to your local. I'll attempt to find the crawler crew and get down there ASAP. Assume all who approach the cargo pod to be hostile until you recieve the assigned password you and I agreed on. We made contact with hostiles as soon as we reached the top of the trail. We took out at least two of them but there was at least a total of five when we first saw Tanner. Visibility is near zero even by thermo optics due to the intensity of the dust storm up here. I'll contact you again when I reach the pod. Nimrod out." Nimrod looked at Tanner.
Tanner coughed. "This dust isn't helping anything."
"You'd best get your dust filter on while this dust storm is going so badly or you won't have the benifit of it."
Tanner took it and put it on. After adjusting it his breathing improved.
"Here. Hop on my back and I'll get us back up the slope."

IC: as Victor Van DeCamp
Van DeCamp's left arm was gone and the squad of hover craft had been under fire. Whoever had suckerpunched them had taken advantage of the covering from a particularly large boulder the squad had passed just before they sighted the pilot. Hamner's HC took a hit, followed by Kiln's HC taking a hit. Diagnosis indicated that they were hit by high velocity rounds of tungsten penetrators. Fortunately for him the round that fired into his unit didn't cause an explosion but simply continued out the other side. Something new had to be done fast. The last sighting of the pilot was approaching the edge of the chasm. Then all hell broke loose, followed by the sudden increased intensity of the dust storm kicking up. Analysis would suggested that whoever had them targeted couldn't see them anymore, since visibility was near zero, even if the shooter was extremely close by...what if the shooter was more mobile even in this dust storm? Just then Tolstoy, his cybertechnician interrupted his thoughts.
"Your replacement arm is online and operational, sir. You may reengage it at your pleasure."
"Were the day's events only filled with news as good as that my friend," said Van DeCamp with a sarcastic chuckle as he re-activated his network of sensors and controls. Now. Let's find that annoying shooter and kill him."
"Sir," spoke his pilot. "Cussler's Team has spotted an erosion trail leading down from here to the chasm's floor and there seems to be crawler tracks on it. Visibility is returning. We can see to fifty feet out and it seems to be improving."
"All gunners are to be at full alert. If we can see better, so can they! Head for this trail you mentioned and see where it leads." Its time for a little payback, thought the Wiseman.
IC: Nimrod and Tanner
"Damn, that's the best time to climb I've seen anyone do with a rope up the side of a cliff," said Tanner as they cleared the edge and crawled onto solid ground again. Nimrod went flat to ground.
"Down," he hissed. Tanner did likewise.
"What's ya see tinman?"
Nimrod ignored the slight. "More visibility for one thing and for another, only two of the hover craft we ran into earlier. The other three are gone. This is not good... Then again maybe we can use one or the other of those two HCs. The storm's starting to break,... so the Crawler probably broke engagement with the HCs. If the HCs have found the trail leading up here then they may catch up with the crawler before it reaches the cargo pod. Yeah, let's see if we can salvage one of these two." Nimrod gathered up the climbing line and his portable gauss cannon.
"How are you at keeping up with a IEC Dragoon, flyboy?" Tanner swallowed and ignored the slight.
"I'll flap my wings as hard as I can, Captain. You lead I'll follow."
"You do that LT.," said Nimrod as he began leaping like a kangaroo towards the two HCs.

"hmm seems like visibility is possible. JD drive faster! We need to get to..." Ironman looks around hastily "JD we need to hurry my sensors just picked up shuttle based ativity!" Ironman looks around some more Man we need to hurry up if we dont i wont be able to get the cargo.

IC: Kato The dust storm was on the wane and satellite communications was up. Kato had gotten the micro-burst transmission from Nimrod. The message he requested was sent to Chryse Planitia Base. Hell, he even got Base Commander Decker on the horn. Help was coming. Just one problem remained who was on his side and who wasn't. An Old Hell's Angel saying went like this, "If in doubt knock 'em out..." Well he'd have to knock 'em out and then sort 'em out later, then.
Kato brought up Nimrod's second in command, Dai Wu, Alpha-19...connected the biopod...brought the Microantimatter reactor online and downloaded his personality and martial arts experience into its reflex circuitry. This should be interesting, they both thought similtaniously.
"Dai Wu, you are to protect the special cargo-designated Carbon Death-from anyone not answering to the password request that Captain Alpha-16 gave me. The password is..."
IC: Van Decamp "Increase velocity!" he bellowed "We've no way of knowing how much of a head start they have."
"Sir if we hit any boulders on the way down, the cushion skirting will not stand up to the damage," responded the pilot.
"Then shoot the damned boulders with A.M rounds if you need a clear path. Just hurry up!" raged the wiseman.
The dust storm had stopped and they made it to the bottom.
"The tracks lead to the right! Unit 3 take the lead and act as a buffer and Unit 5 follow on my six and do rear guard just in case they're sneaky!" The HCs literally streaked towards the direction of the downed Cargo Pod following the track trail at a hair raising 120mph.
OOC: Ok guys. You should see their dust rooster tails blazing up your tail pipe by now. Tag I.M. and J.D.

OOC: Yoohoo, Iron Man? I think John Doe aka Dr. Doom is feeling a little stressed. F.Y.I. the Crawler is traveling at 60mph as opposed to the 120mph of the HCs. You're about a mile from the pod and they are about two miles behind you guys. Yep, fire fight for sure. Giddyup!

In Game: As the crawler races up to the pod, three HCs come screaming up to the pod as well.
Begin combat: JD and Ironman have first attack, followed by VanDeCamp and his boys, followed by Kato and Alpha-19.
