Arlington Texas 1869:
A tall man sauntered into Sheriff Tom Roundtree’s office, a relaxed look on his face, a look of a man who had not a worry in the world. The man was tall standing around a good six feet and two inches in height and wore weather beaten clothes, including buckskin leggings that went over the top of his brown leather round toe boots and his white cotton shirt was covered in spots of dirt. Around his waist he wore a 45. Schofield pistol in a
cross holster and a small knife. The stubble on his face was unshaven, forming a dark shadow on his chin, and it is the same with the man’s dark brown hair that grew down to behind his ears. His eyes were a penetrating grey and looked like they could burn into the soul of the hardest man.
The Sheriff slowly entered into the office through the door that separated the office from the cell room, where a man was yelling hysterically, obviously still suffering the after effects of the devils brew known as whiskey. The Sheriff exited looking at the watch in his hand for a split second before noticing the man’s presence in the room and being jolted by the surprise.
“Jesus Nathan you scared me, you’re sure as hell are good at that ain’t you?” proclaimed the Tom
“Naw I’m just light footed that’s all,” said Nathan with a smirk appearing on his face.
“Well whatever your excuse…what’ch ya need. Coffee?” he asked as he poured himself some of the black liquid into a metal cup.
“Don’t mind if I do.” He said. Sheriff Roundtree brought out another cup and filled it, and then handed it to Nathan. They stood there in silence for a few seconds before Tom spoke.
“What’ch ya here for Nate, need something I presume?”
“You’d be right; I’m looking for people Tom, people for hire. Hoping you’d know a few,”
“I do, the saloon down the street would be your best bet. What you need people for hire for? Unless you mean guns for hire. What are you trying to pull Nathan?” Tom asked suspiciously.
“Nothin, just looking for some men to go with me up into the Idaho Territory and do some trappin that’s all,” he tried to say as most innocently as he could
“Nate are you out of your mind, the Northern territories were trapped out years ago, before the war.” He proclaimed
“Trapped out you say, really? Well that’s the first I’ve heard about it. well it wouldn’t hurt for me and my companions to go up there and look, just for the heck of it.”
“Your up to something I can see it in your face,” he said eyeing the tall young man standing before him.
“What face, oh you mean this face,” he said pointing to his own face, mockingly.
“Don’t worry Tom, if I make any trouble, which I assure you I won’t, it will be out of your jurisdiction,” said Nathan as he set down his empty coffee cup on the desk and turned to leave.
“Well that makes me feel a heck of a lot better Nathan!” he yelled as the man stepped out the door and shut it behind him.
“Well let’s go take a look at this saloon,” said Nathan to himself. He then turned and began to walk up the wooden sidewalks that lined the fronts of the shops along Main Street.

His white skin is tanned from the years under the wilderness’ sun, causing Nathan’s complexion to be rugged but still have a look of youthfulness in it. His unkempt dark brown hair grows down behind his ears. Nathan’s eyes are a penetrating grey and have the look of a man who has seen much death and loss in his life, but also the look of a man with years of experience and knowledge. And deep within those weary eyes lays a glimmer of hope. The unshaven stubble and his dark gotee on his face adds to his tough and rugged demeanor. Nathan carries many scars including three gun shot wounds, one to the abdomen, one to the right shoulder, and another on his left thigh. His knife scars include one to the left side of his torso and across another to the back of his left shoulder.

Nathan wears a white cotton shirt. He also wears a pair of buckskin leggings, which cover his brown leather round toe boots. And on his head he wears a weather worn black cowboy hat. And when the weather is not permitting, Nathan wears a buckskin jacket. He also carries pouches made of buckskin that were given to him by the Sioux, which are decorated with the tribe’s intricate beadwork.
Notable Possessions:
Nathan carries a large arsenal of weapons, which includes a 45. Schofield, a Sharps rifle, a 44. Henry Rifle and a bowie knife.
Backstory:
Nathan was born July 12th 1842 in Missouri where his family owned a farm in the Ozark Mountains just outside Springfield. Nathan got involved in hunting at a young age, a skill that would prove useful to his future. His father taught him how to hunt, trap, and shoot a rifle, efficiently. But soon the war came and both Nathan’s brother and Father went of to fight for the South. Even though they were in Union territory, they felt an obligation to the family they had down South. Nathan stayed on the farm and tended it with his mother and sister. This was his father’s idea. Nathan wanted to fight along his father and brother but his father had to force him to stay at the farm and tend to the family while he was gone
Years passed and he had heard no word from his father or brother. His mother had died the year earlier and his sister ran off with some cardshark and they went west, leaving Nathan on his own to attend the farm, but the year of 1965, the end of the war. Nathan was now a man of 22 years of age, as compared to the boy of 18 he had been when the war started. His father Emmet returned home and Nathan told him of what happened about his mother and sister. Nathan also heard the news that his brother had been killed in the battle of Wilderness during the war. He believed it since it came from his father’s mouth and never asked about the war again; it was trialing on his father’s mind.
The next month Emmet decided to sell the farm and told Nathan that they were going out west. Nathan didn’t question this either but instead he followed his father wherever he went. The only clue his father gave him was that they were heading up into the Idaho territory, and nothing else. Along the way they met a man named Priest, a mountain man, the last of his breed. The old mountain man had helped them out of a scrap with some natives as they traveled through the Kansas territory. All three traveled together for some time before Emmet decided to continue on without Nathan, thinking it better for Nathan to stay with Priest and learn from him. And Emmet knew that his son could not go where he was going. He only told Priest of where he was going and why, and to tell Nate when it was the right time.
Nathan accepted the lie that Priest had told him and went on to learn much about being a mountain man from his elderly teacher. He never found out what had happened until about a month later when he had heard of his father being killed up in the Idaho territory by a corrupt lawman name Ellis Magruder. It was then that Priest knew it was time to tell the boy the truth, about his father and his mission. From that day forth Nathan made it his goal to find the man that killed his father, and complete the mission his father had started.
He and Priest traveled together for many years until Nathan was 27 and very capable of surviving in any situation thanks to the tutelage of his teacher the old grizzly mountain man. Priest left Nathan the following summer to go up in the mountains and die the mountain man way, alone. Nathan was now alone and decided that now was the time to begin his long quest for Magruder, but he would need help if he was to

Backstory:
In 1834 Samuel was born to James and Martha Hawkins in what would become Galveston, Texas. Samuel was raised with an immense pride in his country. His father was a military man through and through, having joined the Marine Corp for life. The town that would become Galveston would see many changes through Sam’s youth, growing from port town to Capital to home of the Republic’s Navy. Sam was taught by his mother and father the normal values of southern living, including keeping slaves for chore work around the house. His father was a celebrated officer and was one of the first to jump back into action when the Mexican’s wanted Texas back from the U.S. This war didn’t end well for James, and he was killed in action. Sam was now the man of the house at 12. His mother having to go to work, Sam began to train to begin his own military career, determined for his mother to not be the one taking care of him. Joining the Army at 18, Sam brought his mother with him when he was posted to a unit in North Texas.
In 1954, however, his homestead was attacked while he was on duty. Returning home, he found his mother raped and scalped while most of his home had been destroyed. All signs pointed to Indian involvement and thus he gained an large hatred for their kind. Having failed to protect his mother, Sam turned his full attention to his military career. He quickly rose in rank until he was a leader in the cavalry when Texas seceded from the Union. Long having resented the United States’ involvement in Texas independence, he was fully patriotic to the Confederate States of America and joined in the battles in the West. His unit would move into Indian Territory, where he would first begin exacting revenge against the people who he thought killed his mother. During the war, however, he found himself reluctantly being a part of Stand Watie’s joint forces at Fort Wayne. During the battles in Indian Territory, Watie gained Sam’s respect and he eventually was proud to serve next to the last Confederate General to surrender to the Union. However, Sam hated that the Confederacy had surrendered and, after the war, he lead a group of Choctaw Confederate sympathizers into Fort Harker, Kansas. Here they snuck into the armory and stole several barrels of Black Powder while Sam helped himself to the superior artillery of the Union’s weaponry. Once outside the Fort, and on the run, Sam decided he had had enough dealings with Indians and he killed all of his men.
Taking a moniker given to him by the last of his men before they died, he went into hiding as a gun for hire. The Golden Devil, the man who always has the right weapon for the job.

Backstory:
Sydney Anna Nickerson was born on August 20, 1844 in Virginia to Anna E. Lee and Jack L. Nickerson. Ever since she was young, she has been accustomed to slavery. (Since her parents are Southern aristocrats, she lived on a plantation.) As she grew up, she became smart and clever. Her father was pleased by her cleverness, often bragging that she could run the plantation herself if needed. But due to his friends’ persecution, he convinced Sydney to just do things like art, which she took a fancy to.
Sydney didn’t see the true effects of slavery until she witnessed an old black man whipped to death by an overseer. But that wasn’t the only thing that horrified her. In 1856, she received word of an event called the Pottawatomie Massacre. In an instant she watched Anti-Slavery and Pro-Slavery militia fighting each other in Kansas. Her father (a commander of the USA army) left the plantation when she was 13 to stop the riot. But tragic struck and her father was killed. In two months, her mother died of grief in Sydney’s arms.
Alone on in a nation that was on the brick of war, Sydney was taken to live with her mother’s father, Robert E. Lee. While she was there, Robert E. Lee witnessed her talent with both the gun and the sword. Interested in this, he trained her, himself. And by 1859, was an excellent fighter with both.
When the Civil War broke out, she sided with the Confederacy due to loyalty towards family and friends. When Robert E. Lee became General of the Confederacy, he took Sydney with him throughout the war. She was later proven as a worthy scout and soldier in the Confederate arsenal. But shortly after the Battle of Gettysburg, she was captured by a ruthless Union officer named John ‘Black Eye’ who took in instant pleasure in torturing the young girl including, forcing her to watch him wipe out her friend Jennifer Tsang, her family, and their plantation.
She would have died if Ulysses S. Grant hadn’t intervened. He had her captors executed. And had his doctor heal her wounds. She did not see her grandfather again until April 10, 1865, at Appomattox Court House, Virginia. After the treaty that ended the war was signed, she was reunited with her grandfather with open arms.
After the war, things were hard for Sydney. Her friends were gone; the plantation that was supposed to be hers was destroyed. It got so bad that Robert E. Lee ordered his niece to leave the east and start a new life in the west. On the way there, she was waylaid by an Anti-Southern outlaw band. Its leader, Blackjack, whipped her and stole her Grandfather, Robert E. Lee’s cavalry sword after holding her hostage for 90 days. Currently she is 5 miles from Arlington.
