The Return of the Social Thread at the End of the Galaxy!
Actually I believe a CIV based game could work on smaller scale, too. I was always one of the GIANT MAP and go, kinds of players . . . especially with my beloved CivIII, but lately I sometimes used smaller ones, just to enjoy the game and found they have an fascinating own dynamic. Research is an aspect that is drowning a board game, I believe. But if you limit it, if your player know they can research but won´t ever get a nuke. Maybe a mounted archer, but not a nuke . . . that might be interesting. Anyone of you knows the Novel Islands? Something like that could be a good basic idea of it. Using a simple system had also given us the only working surviving strategy game on the board. Chess. Even though I would aim for a few more players. But I see why Winged had a hard time doing that
On another note . . .
I just announced what will be my final product as a GM before I´ll go travelling. And I feel as if I hear a clock clicking. I am looking forward to see the world and get out of it all for a year, but I think these boards have seriously grown on me.
I won´t do the group hug thing, though
That was creepy.
Anyway, check out the
teaser
. The trailer is to come soon.

Ah, LordT we hang out for several days in one flat and you haven´t mentioned that game even once . . .
When did you write it? When I was showering, man?
Well, any info on player numbers, sign-up shedule and things like that will be appreciated, because I will send you CSes until you accept one. Won´t miss your last game . . .

I dunno if I want to join, what with it being the creation of the same guy that played Hoole and was pretty much behind a lot of bad things that happened in Odyssey

Oh, well . . . there surely is reason for concern . . . it isn´t exactly
High School Musical 7
, or
Ice Age 5
what I am planning, so if a little
Apocalypse
scares you and you imagine your characters to look like Woody Allen or Zak Efron . . . this might simply not be your game.
On second thought, I love Woody Allen. So forget about that part!

Apocalypse, Star Wars? Nice . . .
Millions of Voices
is an old Winged Project isn´t it? I was excited back then when I saw and then happened ManCubs. Good to have both, actually.
Well ALL IN.
I´ll take any role.
If I need to play the clean-up woman on an abandoned trash station with no updates provided, because I only describe my daily routine until dying from old age . . . I´ll do it!
Why are we actually discussing this here? It is the one board that iwll have nothing to do with it
Anyway, Civ II, III, IV were awesome games, Even I enjoyed them. If there was a game like this, I would certainly think, against my habit to join it, because I believe these games really do have an easy to use interface. I can imagine it translating very well to the boards.
So what? Two games for the price of one
LordT
? C´mon, it´s your final season . . . get as many horses running AS YOU CAN!

I am considering the two route option . . . and if I need a cleaning woman, I have that role reserved for you, my dear.
It´s 8-10 players maximum. One week submission stage. Begin: Unknown.
It will be a dark tale of adventure against the backdrop of the galaxy´s end . . . I am frightened how easy such things are to write.
Concerning CIV, my ideas are blopping and I might do a limited run as a pilot project. Same time. All of that happens once my game right now wraps up. I guess it will be an intense six month run, with another three to let it all roll out.

Yo LordT,
Before you start crafting the Civ game, be sure to check out these threads:
Gold and Glory
New Beginning
Galactic Conquest: Empires Among the Stars
Especially the first. These are all games that tried to do Civilizations (looks like the 02ers and 03ers were very interested in the idea), and had various levels of success. Whats fascinating is how the 1st one, the closest to the game motor, mysteriously died all at once.
Might offer some hints on things to avoid or tweak.

Thanks, these will surely be very helpful. I can already see in a first scan, many had the "wide-aspect" that is part of the fun of the Computer game. But my first impression right now is, that it would not work on a board like us that way . . .
And I think it won´t be Star Wars or include spaceships, which is more Imperia Galactica Style. I would place it on the ground, entirely.

8-10 players? That´s a lot for you, friend. Hope you got one reserved for my humble presence
I think CIV is a good concept, but one can make a lot wrong about it. The beauty of Chess is, nothing is left for interpretation. No rules to discuss. Anyway, I always said you should do a strategy game, LordT. So, maybe this could be a case for true planning thread? Get heads together?

I'd be happy to partake in "The Civ. Project", if thats how LordT wants to take it of course.
It would be best to get it into RPR one way or the other anyway. All this RPG talk in the Social thread, tsk tsk to me.
