Just spotted this:
Lucas begins Star Wars TV series
Star Wars creator George Lucas has said he has started work on a live-action TV series based on his sci-fi saga. Fans, however, should not expect Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader or any other established characters to appear.
"It's about minor characters," he told the Los Angeles Times. "It's completely different. But it's a good idea, and it's going to be a lot of fun to do."
LucasFilm is also working on an animated TV series, expanded from its earlier Clone Wars shorts. The half-hour cartoon series takes place between the events depicted in the Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith films.
The live-action TV series will take place in the Star Wars universe but will not feature the Skywalker family, as had previously been suggested.
Lucas, who joked the series would analyse "the life of robots", said the US TV networks were "having a hard time" comprehending his vision.
"They're saying, 'This doesn't fit into our little square boxes.' And I say, 'Well, yeah, but it's Star Wars."
The saga began in 1977 with the original Star Wars, which went on to spawn two sequels, three prequels and a number of other projects.
Last year producer Rick McCallum said the proposed TV spin-off could run to at least 100 episodes.

Yeah, I can't wait for them to appear. A TV network other than Sky better get them for British TV, that's for sure!

That's if it gets shown on TV, McCallum had siad at one point that they may go down the download/streaming route.
Also would be cool if they do, do upto 400 episodes as he said at CE

Don't think he's a fan of the prequels then lol? Must be a Trekkie! Burn him! Or not.
His main point is that Star Wars has become overcommercialised and that minor characters in the series have no merit. I'd agree with the first point (there is no arguing against it), I'd disagree with the second of "no merit". Being a Star Wars fan, I'd like to think I know differently, many of the minor characters turn out to be gems in the EU, if handled well by authors. In the films they get their 10 seconds (sometimes more) of fame. But in the EU they get to shine and Star Wars is very much a more successful multimedia project than just as a series of films.
There's also the whole angle of snobbery from film critics, that every film has to be spectacular art and can't be just popcorn nobrainers. I enjoy many different types of movie, it just happens that for many reasons Star Wars, and it's characters, have grabbed me more than others. I stuck with it, through thick and thin. Some people would call it obsession, and fandom is that too to some extent, but then they could say the same about my interest in the Middle Ages - but it's high art vs popular art and the upturned noses come out again. And there is also the factor - just who are the critics, how do they earn their credentials, and at the end of the day ... aren't they just another person with a viewpoint, but given a place in a newspaper has somehow made it more important? I don't think so.
But do I really care what this critic really says? Will it change my view? Not one bit, some parts of his review made me chuckle, some were a little sick, and at the end of the day he hasn't even seen a single episode and already he's a closed mind, so I don't particularly care less what he thinks. Let him have his little rant. I'll wait till I am watching an episode before I start judging the new TV series.
Interestingly, he has an article on snobbery of critics and how people perceive them - http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/story/0,,1826511,00.html
I have a lot of faith that the TV series will do some good for the SW name. Right now it's the comics really keeping good SW stories going, nearly having completed the current SW novel (Legacy of the Force: Inferno) I am more impressed with comics currently than the novel series.
