It's that time of year again, where people are done feasting, and the last of the holidays are over. However, we have one celebration yet to be covered this year. That would be the new years. Most people set a resolution for the new year, some to quit smoking, some to lose weight, some to quit drink, and some just to live more. I have a few resolutions myself. One major one involves you all.
You all asked for a change, a change to spice up the OFF, something to make the fire burn under our feet and attract more attention to ourselves. So we can become more active.
Well, I just conceived of a plan to make that just happen.
So, I present to you, a challenge. A challenge that will take all of us to complete, something big, that will be difficult mentally, and physically hard for all of us.
A project. A project we all as a team will work on. However, when I tell you my idea, and if you all go along with it, then we will need to start talking outside of the board a lot more. Things will become more secretive. This topic will have to become top secret and can not post anything about it on any board unless we all agree on it.
For years we have had people make star wars fan films, we have had small groups of people, one person, or maybe a couple of friends. And all of them turned out to be fantastic films. Now, what could you get if you did that same thing, only with a whole Oregon Fan force involved? You can come up with something bigger, and better. Regardless if you do your own films, we all should work on this.
We must do it all together, write the story, film, act, all of it. It can be our official 2008 OFF project!
Rules for participation:
1: You MUST live in Oregon.
2: You can not give anything out about the film plot, characters, where it is being shot at ect. (All film planning will be done on yahoo or in person where all secrets can be safe from people trying to steal ideas)
3: You must get a Yahoo address for all of us to have online meetings.
4: Do not post anything about the film or what it is about on this board or any board. (Anything about the film that will be released in public will have to be voted on outside the board. Including trailers or teasers.
5:If you just joined, you must wait until you trusted enough by members or met in person by one of us, to let you in this project. We do not want thieves stealing our ideas.
6: You MUST have fun while do this.
P.S. I have private messaged the people that are the most active here, You have my yahoo address.
Our first step will be planned on the board. We need to plan for an online meeting. If not everyone can make it that's fine. All there needs to be is a few of us, to at least make some ideas up.
I think Thursday around 7pm sounds good. There we can discuss more about our project. If you can contact me soon that would be great. I will keep my yahoo running at all times, even when I am away, so you can leave me messages.

Although I have never done a fan film myself, I like the idea.
But keeping things off the board seems like the opposite of what we should be doing. Don't we want the OFF to be a fun place to visit, where everyone can participate? I think doing all the planning and discussing of the film on the OFF board itself would be the way to go.

I do understand the concern for project secrecy, but I sort of agree with Crash. Now, I'm not active in the Fan Film community, so I really have no idea how necessary this is, but I'll be happy to sign up to the yahoo group since I already have an account...

We can still talk inside the board, we just can not give out the story of the film. We can talk about it and make commentaries and whatever and actually post them, so people can keep track but giving out the storyline is a major part. If we give out a story line and someone copies it then what? Then we have the same stories and they could beat us to it. We can give hints about the story kind of like in previews but that is all that we should do. Ya know?

I just had an idea... What if we had a forum linked off of our forum. That could be locked to only the members working on the project. That way we can access it, and talk about the project there. That way it keeps up the activity of the forum more.
Also, it doesn't matter if you are working on your own fanfilm right now. Just so long as you honor yourself and don't steal ideas from us that we plan to use in the film. If we decide not to use an idea, and you want to use it with permission and a vote, then you can use it.
So, if we can get another forum here, where we can get multiple subjects in it but it be locked by us and only let OFF members in. And people that live in Oregon and people that come new have to wait to be trusted enough or known by someone else in person before let it to the forum.
This way the board won't slow down.

I would suggest starting a yahoo group. They run very much like forums. And the nice thing is that as the group creator you can moderate how you see fit. You can even set it up so that the only way to join the group is to have an invite into the group. The other nice thing about yahoo groups is that the forums themselves are locked out to those who are not members of the group. In other words, Joe Schmoe want to see what is going on in the OFF Yahoo group but he isn't a member of the group. He can't access anything other than a front page, so-to-speak, of what the group is and what it is about.
Just an idea.

So whats the deal with the private thing? Are we hiding from commies? 
Good idea.
Does anyone have any film experience? I've done films through out my childhood. But obviously some form of professionalism would be good. Jeeze...if only I had my JVC High-Definition video camera....*sigh...(only my dream camera).
But I would like to say that I, under no circumstance, am getting yahoo messenger! I refuse!
So I be talking via PM's, e-mail, or MSN messenger.

The secrecy is for other people trying to steal our ideas and putting it in their fan film. Like I said, we can get a forum within OFF that can be restricted to only certain members.

Wow, this was a great surprise to find when logging on for my weekly check-in. I'll look around at work tomorrow to see if I can find a cheap HD camcorder. It's the end of the year so discontinued or openbox items will be incredibly inexpensive if anyone wants to go pro with this a chip in for a $1300 camera. I'll use the comp at the tech bench to show my findings. I LOVE CIRCUIT CITY
