Question: 2008 CR Candidate Q&A and Election
Well, as the resident "neutral" party  , I have been assigned the task of starting the Official 2008 election for the new Oregon FanForce (OFF) Chapter Rep. (CR). As you know, our most recent CR (Colt) has stepped down to provide an opportunity for new leadership. As of this date Jawafett and AramysStrael have graciously put up their names for the CRship.
During our last election, we included the "We don't need no dang leader at this time" option in the poll. However, the administration (you know, the people with the colorful user names) have recently discovered that we exist  , and have informed us that we actually need a CR to remain a viable FanForce Chapter. Therefore, having a "no leader" option, is not an option at this time.
The new CR will serve a 1 year term (so we don't have to do this again for a while), and will represent the OFF to the best of their ability. The election will end June 30th, and the new CR will take office on July 1st.
BEFORE YOU VOTE........This thread will also be used to provide a forum for the candidates to post information about themselves, what they would like to do as CR, and as a Q&A venue. So before you vote you may want to wait for Jawafett and AramysStrael to post some information, or you may want to post some questions for the candidates.

Some things about my self. I'm jawafett also known as Eric. I've been an active Oregon FanForce member since '03. I'm an avid Star Wars Fan, extensive but not completist collector of Star Wars toys, novels, & comics. I'm a Star Wars costumer, belonging to the Rebel Legion's local Base Kashyyyk Base & Dark Side Troopers, costume as Han Solo (ANH). I'm loyal, & dedicated to my friends and peers.
Accepted OFF CR duties in Aug '03, attended several OFF meetings some in Salem, Wilsonville, Portland & a joint Star Wars group Summer BBQ. Hosted a OFF meeting in Aug '06 at own home. I've Hosted a OFF table at the Portland Comic Book Show March '04.
You have 2 dedicated Star Wars Fans as candidates for OFF CR. The choice is yours. Make us proud to be your Oregon FanForce CR. Together, we can make the Oregon FanForce be what it's meant to be: more than just a message board.

Hey everybody!
I am AramysStrael, aka Bill. Like Eric, I am a huge Star Wars fan (aren't we all). I've been an OFF member since... `04, or was it `05? Well suffice it to say I have been here for awhile. And also like Eric, I am a costumer.
I love the Star Wars community. It is my hope that the next CR will be someone who can contribute to our community. One thing that I will do as CR is work on increasing social activiy, via having get togethers.
How I will do this is simple: I will put forth the effort to have at least one meeting or get together a month. That way we stay in compliance with the "administration". As you all know, I am pretty laid back. I don't sweat it if folks can't make it. Even if it is just a couple of us getting together, it is still a get together as far as I am concerned.
I will encourage activity on the board here, but I will not dictate silly ultimatums to the members here. If you don't post that is your deal. Everyone knows that this group is only as productive and active as its members. Admittedly, I am not as active as some others, but I will commit to doing all that is necessary to make this a fun environment for all parties.
Whoever you decide as CR for the OFF, it is assured that you will be in good hands!

FanForce Rules indicates that there can be only 1 CR per Chapter. It also says we can have club officers 
What I would like to see for the OFF:
- more meetings. At least every other month, we should have a meeting. Local to Portland, and not one in Portland area.
- events with the local 501st Legion Cloud City Garrison/Rebel Legion Kashyyyk Base, where OFF members will be part of the event crew. It's Interaction with other Star Wars Fans.
- Plus How do we identify ourselves as belonging to the OFF? We need a club tshirt or identification tag w/lanyard to carry on us when we do events. Plus I have the OFF Flier which needs to be redesigned, anyone can put forth a New OFF Flier design and we can vote on the best one. We use the Flier to place in Comic Book shops, Shows, etc.
- Topics. Topics with a purpose and brings good discussions.
Both candidates are friends, we both want what's in the best interests for the group, and the OFF will become better with your help.

It really doesn't matter who wins or loses. The point is that both candidates are friends and love this group. Both Eric and I will look after this group with all the love and compassion that is due to the OFF.
The beauty of it is that no matter who wins, the other WILL support the other. That much I can promise. Eric and I are pretty much on the same page. We both want positive interaction with the members here. We both want a fun and safe environment for everyone. And we both want more social time with other members, not just those of us who are costumers, but the non-costumers as well. We both are very interested in the rest of the OFF, we both want to develop a good, solid rapport with each one of you, as much as possible. That is the point with having so many meetings.
Of course we value input. I think I can speak for Eric (I know that I do so for myself) that we want this to be a warm and inviting place. Should any member have ideas for areas of improvement, we certainly wish to welcome those ideas. I, myself, will have an open door policy with anyone who needs or wants to discuss issues of concern.
Another thing I would like to do is start up a membership directory that would be available for members only. Not only do we want to encourage activity within the group, but having a directory and making it available to all of the members gives more opportunities for folks to just go hang out with each other. This helps cultivate friendships on a deeper level. This is just another idea that I have floating around in my head that would foster better relations amongst the membership here.

To speak truthfully on the matter, I do beg to differ. I realize you dealt with past issues of the O.F.F. with a directness that you understood to be the best measure. But the fact that Colt may have been run off for good isn't so great. A City Representative is to represent the fanforce with severe discretion. He/she represents the group as a whole and should be able to have mannerisms that reflect welcomeness upon all. To be in direct conflict with one of the members of the OFF reflects poorly and may close our doors to new or future members. It is in my observation that certain members were dealt with in a "not so kindly" way. The nature of presentation may have seemed justified in some eyes but, in all actuality, does not prove to be good traits of a representative of the people.
My vote has been cast.

With all due of respect to the previous CR, it was not in the best interests of the OFF to create strife and arguments just to create more posts from the membership. Offering differences in opinions, debating, is all about discussions.
What needs to be asked here is:
What direction would you like to see the OFF go in?
From what I can read, is the membership is looking for a leader, a topic/discussion manager, and something that the members can all participate in. WIIFM? (What's in it for me?).
What do you want out of belonging to this club?
Please give your inputs.

Eric is right, Larena. I think you forget that I advocated giving Colt a chance at being our CR. I honestly wanted him to succeed. However, he failed us when he caused a lot of internal strife. You conducted yourself in a manner that was just as challenging to his authority as I was.
There were harsher words I wanted to use when dealing with him, but didn't. I did actually use a measure of restraint. As CR, I am not going to tolerate the deliberate instigating of members for the sole purpose of satisfying some personal desire. I think you can agree that what Colt did was not, only inappropriate but, mature.
The proper way to motivate people to be more active is to contribute something of value to the group, not stirring up strife. My actions, as you have stated, were in the best interest of the OFF. If anything, it is a reflection of my dedication and preservation of this group.
Disagree with me if you like, Larena. But as you could see, I was defending your position as well as the rest of the members from the gross misuse of power perpetrated by the former CR. What I can promise is that sort of thing will NOT happen under my watch, or Eric's should he be the next CR.
I agree that image is important. And it is important for the CR to reflect this group in a positive light. The former CR did not. The next one will!
