Someone needs to step up and do some research for the price of shirts. We already have some designs in mind, so that step is complete. Next, we need to have a vote on which shirt we should use, and then put it through the approval process so that we can use it. Then we proceed from there.

I personally don't see this going anywhere....we can't seem to agree. But if you want to continue this discussion, this is how I think we should do it:

1. Someone (not me) do research on costs to print T-Shirts....what price for how many. What is the minimum number of orders required?
2. See how many members will buy a T-shirt for the price given. Do we have the minimum number required?
3. Ask members to submit designs.
4. Vote on-line for a design.
5. Declare a design winner.
6. verify that we still have the minimum number of orders required based on the design winner.
7. Collect money.
8. Make order.
9. Get order.
10. Distribute shirts.
11. Live happily ever after.

P.S. Bill, you give those of us who like the Wookiee a hard time about not submitting any design ideas. But Bill.....we like the Wookiee....that IS our design. We are not motivated to make a new design because.......We Like The Wookiee. I am fine if the Wookiee does not win the vote, just don't bash us because we like the Wookiee. I know that you have already declared that you hate the Wookiee and will never buy it. That is fine, and is your right. I will personally buy whatever we vote on, if I like it or not (assuming I can afford it), even if it's a photo of Bill in a Wookiee suite with his hands up in the air. laugh

I couldn’t agree more on the process. The problem is that the call for designs has been made. That is the stumbling block. People have expressed an interest in having Wookiees on their t-shirt, yet when alternative designs have been introduced, they’ve been shot down immediately. That is what I am taking issue with.

I have proposed a couple of different designs that had Wookiees in the logo and they got shot down without a second glance – usually by those who demand more artwork and don’t bother to contribute anything, themselves.

But let’s be frank about it. There are some problems with having any Lucasfilm copywrited material in the logo, or SWAG due to the licensing agreements. Everything has to be approved through Steve Sansweet. Anyone who was at the last meeting would know that it is easier to have something approved that is non-Star Wars descript in the artwork. So, while it is cool for everyone to want a Wookiee on their t-shirt, the approval process gets more muddled because there is a Wookiee in the artwork.

And for the record, I never said I hated the Wookiee as a design. I said I hate that peticular Wookiee design. The Wookiee “the goal is good” design sucks. It looks like someone tool a close up pic of a Power of the Force Chewbacca action figure and added some distressing detail and called it good. In my opinion, it looks like crap.

If I hated the Wookiee, I wouldn’t have submitted artwork that included Wookiees.

All I want is that if people are going to squawk about this issue, then get involved. Don’t half-(_|_) it. Submit a design. Do something. Don’t hide behind the guise of “I’m not artistic enough”. You have a brain, right? You have synaptic activity to create thought right? Then collaborate with someone who does have the artistic talent and come up with something. I can respect someone who says, “hey, what about adding something like this here, or that there” over someone who says, “I don’t like that design and I don’t have any talent so I can’t come up with anything to contribute.”

The way I see it, that is being part of the problem and not the solution. So let’s start focusing on becoming a club and each do our individual part. Otherwise what is the point? Why bother be a member of a club that doesn’t have anything to offer to itself, or the Star Wars community?

Again, I agree on the process. But until you can get past the first part, it does no good to follow up with any of the other stuff until we are able to get the design worked on. Having an interest thread, followed by design discussion, followed by interest thread, followed by pricing, followed by another interest thread is a bit redundant. Let’s simplify it. Get a workable design that everyone can live with and go with an interest thread of those who are serious about the orders. Building blocks, my friends, building blocks…

(1 & 2)We have members who want a OFF T-shirt and are willing to pay for theirs. Finding a T-shirt maker for good $, service, etc. Not a problem since there are people here who know people (connections), or know someone who has ability to make T-shirt print from home PC.
(3)Looks like we're on #3 or #4

So if someone could sift back thru the pages of this thread and post up all of the current designs so we can see them all. Then we can have a poll. But, like Bill said. Star Wars (tm)(c)(R) items are harder to get approved. I would like to go with the an easy design for our first go at this sort of thing. I would very much like to have a T-shirt for the group which will help Identify us and advertise that we are here. Looking for a June Date/place for a meeting to help motivate us.

I think we need to get the number of committed folks who will buy a shirt. It will make it easier to determine unit cost and the like when we know how many shirts (and which sizes are needed).

I can think of a couple of t-shirt maker/vendors we could go with. It would be better to get everything lined up to determine price.

Actually, we are going to need all of that taken care of before we get price quotes, as designs, colors and the volume of shirts are all factored into the final price.

But know this, these shirts will probably be expensive since there are so few of us. Depending on the logo (the fewer the colors in the logo, the better), as Eric said, we should keep it simple, the price will also be reflective of what we decide on.

We're taking orders. wink

Sorry, we just couldn't resist, haha. Really, I would be proud to wear anything screaming my allegiance to the OFF and Star Wars, regardless of it's appearance, because the fact that the shirt would actually, FINALLY exist would make it awesome enough. happy Melanie and I just haven't done much dabbling in the matter seriously because we're not really active in the OFF aside from posting on the boards and we were just fine with the Wookiee, lol. But you're right, people need to be more constructive on the matter if they want anything to come of this discussion, but until then, we got the Wookiee. peace

I did some more doodling with MS Paint the other day. Here is something more basic. Of course the colors could be changed and OFF lettering can be added in. Sound off...

Sweet MS painting. Perhaps would make for a good shirt. But maybe not a "Star Wars Fan" shirt. Now, honest question here, are you trying to steer away from "nerd" in this whole t-shirt design. Just curious. If so, you might have a problem designing something that everyone would agree on. The OFF shirt needs to scream "nerd". But anyways, aside from that random question. Again, sweet MS doodle. But in my opinion it doesn't give off the right fanforce spirit!

It has nothing to do with trying to steering away from "nerd" so much as it is about producing a design that reflects the Oregon Star Wars fan base. We have already established that the use of LFL trade marked items is not an option for the OFF design. This has been mentioned so many times it is beginning to sound like a broken record.

The only thing I can see an issue with is the use of so many colors. In the past, merch items for the costuming clubs that I have been in have tried to keep the design down to four colors, or less. This saves on cost for the production of said merch (literature letterhead, patches, t-shirts, hoodies and the like).

But, yeah, it does give off that Oregon feel to the FanForce - it has mountains, trees and rivers (ok, so it is just one river), all things that accurately reflect the spirit of Oregon.

Somehow, I am thinking the franchise would frown upon that. Dare, typically, has been the anti-drug program for kids for the past 25 years, or so. Lumping "Dare" in with Wookiees, or anything associated with the Star Wars universe, or franchise could be looked upon in a very negative light.
